  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, how old is the earth and how old is the universe?

What are you basing those figures on?

Ah, I've been waiting for you. Seen all your post, and lurked I jumped in here :) So let's get down to brass tack shall we.

How old is the universe? Don't know, don't care.

How old is the Earth? According to the Scriptures (God's Holy Word) about 12,000 years give or take sometime. Gen 1 and 2 Pet 3:8

Yay? :)

Gen 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Day 1

Gen 1:10 says, "And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good." Day 3

Can I assume it the universe is 2 days younger than the earth then?

If you like, but there is nothing about the age of the universe in the Bible. The first chapters of God's Word are about the Earth only

Ok, we'll go with that.

Gen 1:14-16 "And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also....And the evening and the morning were the fourth day."

So, all stars (but no universe?) on the 4th day?

It doesn't say when He made the stars it includes them in the verse. In fact it only calls the division of Day/Night the fourth day. They could have been there but covered up on Earth. The firmament does not have to be space but it could be the sky

I thought the bolded, "he made the stars also" indicated when he... made the stars?

No, just that He made them. Let's gander at the sentence:
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also

Yes God made them but it just doesn't say when, it does say He had the greater light ruled the day and the lesser rule the night. Now many Creations may disagree with me as an FYI but that it how I see it :) I'll be back in the morning

Pretty sure it did.

"And the evening and the morning were the third day" preceded all that and, "And the evening and the morning were the fourth day," followed it.

We'll just have to disagree. :)

Well, hold up...

"On the third day of the week, I mowed the lawn: I also weed-eated."

"On the fourth day of the week, I watered the lawn and made pancakes..."

And you are disagreeing that I weed-eated on the third day because...?

Yes. Just because you wrote you weeded in the same sentence does not necessarily mean you did. Now since your here to tell us you did, then of course you did. One thing is to remember the Bible was not written in English with English punctuation. There was none in the original autographs, so it can be interpreted a number of ways.

That's why there are so many opinions on what one verse or a set of verses says because we have to try and interpret what was said in the first place

I would think anything said, especially worded chronologically, would be taken in that chronological order.

If you chose to, for some reason aside from validating your beliefs, you'd have to assume that everything could be out of order (based on translation, punctuation, etc...), invalidating your claim of 12,000 yrs old.

Not really. It's your perception that it would, not reality. That is really what this is all about our perceptions, you perceive things one way so you want to disprove God. You percieve that if something is in order it must be that way, but again it's only perception. To really understand you would have to understand the original language which they even wrote differently.

Who's to say that they wrote it to be chronologically like you understand it. Ancient cultures did iterate a point in their writing and the point is that God created all. God as He said did within six days since I have the gift of faith from God I know this is what happened.

So somewhere in this 6 day thing, he created the stars.

You just don't know what day?
