Odd, I thought I'd score lower than that.... being Canadian and all, I didn't think I'd be almost close to a Southerner. Grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved west to Calgary, Alberta, both areas are very similar in speech patterns, slang, etc. i.e. similar to Midwest/Great Plains states in the US (that is, the states most directly south of us.)

Speaking of which, I have this big pet peeve when people refer to someone having a 'Canadian' accent... the accent they usually refer to is those people who populate those areas of Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes closest to New England and the Great Lakes areas, to me, they tend to sound like a weird amalgam of Chicago, Boston and New York speech all rolled up into one, with a hint of the Queen's English. Generally, most of us Canadians west of Southern Ontario tend to sound, with a few exceptions, much like the "TV broadcaster/Hollywood actor" speech y'all** hear on CNN or when watching some sitcom, which I've heard referred to as Standard Midwestern, Californian, or General American. Again, slight exceptions occur within the regions too, pretty much like there isn't one defining Southern accent, and so on.

** Maybe I do have a little Dixie in me after all? J/K
