• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

This isn't really a depression related thread, but I don't go out on the other parts of the forum much, and I know that some people here had an interest.

I know that some folks here had an interest in writing. I am about halfway through my first novel, a fantasy novel, and I am starting to think about what I am gonna do with the darn thing once I have it finished. ;) Has anyone here had dealings with agents or publishers?

Also if anyone here is working on something and needs someone to read through their work, sort of like a substitute editor, I would be happy to. I am not on here a lot lately though, so it may take a week to get back to you.

I have read, actually on the Writer's Guild subforum of CF that there is a way for writers to get their books on Kindle through Amazon for free. When I'm ready, I'm plannning to look into this seriously. I'll also pray about it in cas God wants me with a publisher. I had a publisher respond to a query letter and ask for a proposal. When she turned down the proposal, she never told me why. Another publisher loved the proposal but thought the book was not their genre. Those are my only real experiences, thus far.

It's exciting to hear you book is coming along.
Prayers for you,

I haven't had any dealings with publishers, but two great sources to help you get started are:

Writer's Market
http://www.amazon.com/2012-Writers-...2268/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329867727&sr=8-1

Literary Market Place (LMP)
Amazon.com: Literary Market Place 2012: The Directory of the American Book Publishing Industry with Industry Yellow Pages (Literary Market Place (Lmp)) (9781573874205): Karen Hallard, Mary-Anne Lutter, Vivian Sposobiec: Books

These should give listings of publishers and agents. Your local library should carry these in the reference area. Let us know how things progress with your writing. :)

Right now I am on page 235 of the rough draft, well over halfway done on the first book, but it will be a series of books. There will be at least 2 books to complete the first story line, and I actually am thinking forward a bit to a second story line with the same characters.

I haven't worked to an outline at all, the only outline is in my head. I suppose I will have to give some thought to doing that in future but the thing is, once I start writing the characters sort of take over and often take me in directions on a small scale that I never anticipated. The overall story arc remains the same, but the characters seem to take me on little detours from time to time and those detours can be worthwhile. ;)

One of the best things about writing fantasy is fantasy maps! :) Here is the map of one of the main cities (hoping it will allow me to link through facebook)
