  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

no one is anonymous in the sight of God
("...then I shall remain open to that which can see me, and anonymous to those who would try to judge me in his place..." ventured the goblin, adding "...yet forumland here is the devil's playground where one's anonymity is most advisable indeed, and why you may ask, well there is no freedom of speech where one is accountable for what one writes, no honesty where one is constantly looking over one's shoulder caring whether one's family, one's friends or one's enemies too, are all seeing you by what you post now, moreover identity theft preys on those gullible enough to have offered all their details to those who would misappropriate them...", and with that he goblin put up two posts that he felt might highlight his stance, saying "...so please don't judge a book by its cover or a goblin by his appearance now...")

repost from elsewhere,

"...the point my friend..." the shark's voiced seem cool, sardonic even, "...is that we just need some fall guy here, nothing more, you know, someone who leaves all their details out there on the forum for others to see, their photo in the avatar for example, so we do the rounds, join in the fun so to speak, gain their trust now, and sting when we want, so that when the police, or any of those other authorities, come looking for us they'll find our fall guy instead, where we'll be miles away by then while he'll have a lot of explaining to do, it's that simple, goblin this internet is murky waters and if they want to swim with us sharks drawing attention to their true life selves like that, that's their lookout, think of it, we could be leaking secrets, we could slander someone, commit fraud, blackmail too, honestly there's no end of things you and I could get up when you think about it goblin, it's that easy now...", yet the goblin didn't reply, though the idea of identity theft quickly sank in, where the ease of it's perpetration seemed almost sinister in its temptation now, so the goblin let the shark continue his sales pitch for a while longer sort of blessing his own anonymity here, though the goblin also knew that he'd have to warn the others before it became too late for them

repost from elsewhere, the topic of anonymity again

"...loved that post xxxxx..." replied the goblin, acknowledging talent where he saw it, adding "...often it's just more practical to be able to address some matter honestly as an unknown than it is as a known then, where for example across many writers forums are those who wish so much for fame and fortune to the extent that they will actually compromise their individuality for the sake of becoming acknowledged as a writer that some bland sameness results...", so there was that then, but also, the goblin knew that the more opinionated one became the more those opinions might ruffle the feathers of the power's that be here, concluding "...I mean who would have thought that the bunch to goons would take power in 1933 and would then hold accountable all those who had decried them back in 1923, yet the n*zi party did just that then concerning their failed beer hall putsch coup, so obviously it's somewhat prudent to be anonymous for that reason too, much as the recent vetting of facebook accounts by the british police for suspected agitators of the london riots showed, with their subsequent arrests and resulting convictions suggests..."

how heart wrenching it must have been....yes, it was the same one. She recognized his face, remembering the sneers and cruel jeers as her famished sister's delicate frame walked through the line of taunters.....as she stood helplessly watching. She preferred to remember her sister in happier times, as she once more blocked out the memory of her skeleton like body, agonizingly breathing her last on a slab of stone. This could not be. No, surely it was not he, this man catching her eye, and walking towards her. She stood, frozen. Raw hatred and rage pulsed through her veins, intermingled with fear. As he drew closer he spoke. As he continued she could barely focus on what he was saying...something about how his wicked heart had been changed...about making amends.....how he didn't deserve grace and pardon...would she forgive him? With everything in her she wanted to pour on him the pain, anguish and suffering he had caused her sister, and her family. As he extended his hand in a gesture of reconciliation, she just stood....no, she could not, would not take his hand...how could she be expected to forgive such a monster? It was beyond her own strength to do so. With everything in her she whispered to Him Who makes possible what is not and woodenly extended her hand....it was then that a power she knew was not her own surged through her arm, her hand, her heart, mind, and soul, as her hand met his. And Corrie knew then that her God had done what she was unable to do. Forgive him.

("...time to be jovial again..." went the goblin appreciating brinny's thread, adding "...come post with me, you're time here is ever short and it would be a pity to have lived life without seeing what you can come up with now...", while unbeknown to the goblin brinny had posted in his writing this, and she had written well too)

repost from elsewhere, the "my site is down" thread on the server support forum

your questions answered by an expert, yes the goblin replies, and explains "FW" in detail

Q: what is FW, and how do l I know that I have it?

A: well FW, otherwise know as "forum withdrawal", it can start with general unrest, twitching and an overall loss of one's purpose in life, though this may lead to more acute symptoms such as remonstrating with God, chewing the carpet, etc., and posting in absentia to their server support forum

Q: is that serious?

A: well yes, over many years it may lead to one's death even, well that is if one doesn't die before that, or worse, there might be no more carpet, or God might hang up the phone for that matter.

Q: is it safe to be in close proximity to someone suffering from FW then, or should I contact those “homeland security” people?

A: no, leave well alone, not if you really value your sanity, but mind if you did value your sanity you wouldn't be getting the most out of your Internet usage perhaps, as admittedly insanity does seem to offer one more mileage for one's thoughts.

Q: should I wear a mask perhaps?

A: no, because everyone on the Internet wears a mask anyway, all are ultimately anonymous here since we can't prove ours Identity that is.

Q: would the multi million dollar bailout package save me from the worse effects of FW?

A: not if your spouse gets to hear of it, you'll be wanting your forum more than ever, after that in that case

Q: so what's to be done?

A: have a backup forum, or better still run two forums that back up each other, which, of course, is something totally advisable, and advised usually by the very goblin who has forgotten to act upon his own advice again, pity.

how so ?'

I think that this goblin persona is silly and that his forumland nonsense is not in line with the purpose of this particular section. I will continue to ask that he remove himself from any threads that I start... so far, he's been both obliging and apologetic.

However, declaring him to be posting in the wrong spirit based on some lazy Funk and Wagnall's definition is beyond the pale. He's not claiming to be a goblin, nobody believes him to be a goblin, and he's not really even acting like the goblins of folklore... which were, despite Funk and Friend's assertion, as often helpful and kind as they were mean and deceitful.

He's an annoyance, I'll grant that. But he's new, so let him either come out of his shell and be himself or let him prove that he's a troll (not a goblin) intent on causing trouble before we go discerning spirits and making overly-broad proclamations.

"...tell you what then..." smiled the goblin in a somewhat conciliatory mood, continuing "...google my username then find one post of mine across forumland that is malicious in nature naming the forum it comes form too, and I will accept your argument and remove myself quite willingly here, as I am across many forums now where the loss of one venue will not diminish my presence on forumland whatsoever, yet till then though I suggest you just accept that there are bound to be others in this world who do not wish to write like you do nor that share your opinion about nanowrimo neither, where if you would care to argue your stance this time around about why forum readership is not taking off as a medium in itself, where I have stated that it is taking off, and as to why one's persona isn't crucial towards the self marketing that that then entails, readers like myself might pay more attention to you and give more credence to your accusations...", in fact, the goblin had even gone as far as to offer the usernames of two nanowrimo winners, together with their homebase forums too, thinking that SepiaAndDust would care to find out more about nanowrimo itself, and that change of perspective that more and more writers again like myself hold towards writing today, adding "...btw, if you don't want to argue your case with me here for some reason, you're always welcome on writersbeat forum or publishedauthors forum as some natural ground between us, and besides, it's not like I'm not the only livewriter out there now, no I'm just one of them, a growing number of them too..."

That picture tells it all. Just how stupid the riots are. Burning buildings, and ruining peoples livelihoods is one thing, but endangering peoples lives, and potentially committing murder, are another. What did the lady in the building, jumping for her life, do to the thugs who set it on fire? Stupid, mindless terrorists, is all these 'protesters' are. Most of them wouldn't work if a job was handed to them on a silver platter. And yet they cry poor, and, "poor me, no-one will give me a job," and "woe is me, there are no jobs in England". What a load of ****! They are proving exactly what type of people they are, and nothing will come of it, except a lot of arrests (hopefully). They have not gained an ounce of sympathy from me, for their 'plight'. I feel hard done by everyday, working for a lousy $18 an hour, but it would do nothing for my cause if I burnt down buildings, or set fire to the owner of the company! (Now there's a thought.....) That sort of thing would NEVER happen here (knock on wood, and all the rest). A couple of bullets to the leg, and the rioting would stop. You can't kick in a window, or run away, if your legs are shot to pieces! Arm the police with guns, and then see how many rioters show up! ****ing losers!
"...well there are jobs perhaps, but those jobs, like yours, don't translate into any future beyond one's servitude, for can they buy a house with that job I wonder, who can now, moreover, what with taxpayers paying for those very banks that have bankrupted the savings and pensions system in the first place, and what with speculators able to use one's bank deposits as collateral to speculate with too, things are only going to get much worse from here, simply the whole system in each country is a mountain of unaffordable debt, underwritten by insurers and already sold on to a wallstreet that is now stumbling upon their double b rated worthlessness, simply debts of debts then, and of course the more one bails out the system with yet more debt the more inflated the system becomes by it, the poorer the individual is and the poorer we become too..." mentioned the goblin, continuing "...but the odd thing about all this is the fact that these riots haven't already occurred across europe, showing you the power of ourdearmedia's ability to divert attention away from this obvious decline in everyone's living standards here, ah but if the police start shooting at protesters as they did in eygpt and tunisia then by it the resulting police state is defact to is it not, and the democracy of that country is anything but, simply protest is the last line of democracy, for without protest there is no democracy..."

I don't really care how you write, since I'm just going to skim through your stuff anyway.

Two tips, though: break up your walls of text into paragraphs (we humans need a little white space) and cite your sources when you copy from another forum.

I don't write under an assumed persona; I try to be more honest with my readers than that.

"...no, because the post has to look concise to be eye catching, paragraphs form experience do not work as well, but thanks anyway..." replied the goblin who did not name names nor link links within his set posts though there could be no doubt of their authenticity because who other than him would write in such a way, adding "...but enough of me now, surely by now it's your turn to post something, for I imagine we share the goal of upping the readership here, after all the duty of the opposition is offer an alternative, or conversely we can do this another way...", in that the goblin would meet SepiaAndDust half way then in a compromise of sorts, suggesting "...did you note that I am nowhere else on this forum bar this one thread here in the writer's section, save for the one time that you asked openly for posters to comment on nanowrimo, which I inadvertently did, not exactly to your pleasure it seems by the resulting comments there, and yet, since I still think of that publishing as yesterways by yestermeans in the face this growing number of direct forum readers who evidently have both diminished attention spans, a need to interact with the author, and absolutely no wish to read stuff elsewhere anyway, that we finally let each other be by this, that is you to your everywhere else on this forum and me to my ever impossible wager that I can somehow make this thread reach 10000hits by christmas...", in fact, the goblin's posting day was just too short to heed his detractors now, saying "...we go to our graves humans where fame and forture is just so much rendering unto ceasar here, so post while you still can for what comes afterwards if at all..."

the goblin was feeling mad today, usually a good sign he felt, so he held up and looked closely at a the tin of baked beans which he noted read by appointment of her majesty the queen and then wondered if, when, and how, she actually ate them

I support fleamailman's writing style as unique and intriguing.

Until I drank tea with him and found out he actually was a goblin. At this time I figured it was best not to pursue a relationship with such a fascinatingly frightening fiend.

"...then think of me as a friend, and by it I will befriend you in return..." replied the goblin not to be feared now, but just not to be trusted much either, saying "...you see, nothing on forumland is of any permanence here anyway, simply we are alter egos now, where here is about as mercurial as it gets, yet once one gets used to the anonymity of the place one can be that which one feel most comfortable with, where I feel happy as I am now, just it relates well my temperament I suppose that's all..."

repost from elsewhere, the "how did you find our forum" thread

the goblin remembers it even now, that fateful internet search then, and how in the late evening everything had just ushered him to his desk once more where, armed only with the strongest of coffees and an aspiring intellect, the goblin clearly understood upon linking up his computer, that what he actually encountered here was some vast void of the internet entered through the tiniest of portals, that is, he was just another IP address on a server somewhere, so he voiced slowly "...funny how the insignificance of the individual is so obvious here, ah but you, o great Internet, do not exist without me, or at least without someone to observe you still, simply your realm collapses without these millions of us insignificant selves here...", a take on harry lime's words perhaps, yet nothing was ever new then, as the goblin then typed into the google search bar type something nonsensical, silly, surreal and then entered it with a touch of his index finger upon the "return" button, the rest was just fate, who knows perhaps it had been fate all along

i don't believe in "accidentals" per se.....nor in fate, yet i understand what is meant by the term, for it was my own perspective once upon a time. it was a land far far away where darkness reigned and shadows menaced and haunted one's dreams while asleep and awake for how does one know the difference in such a dimension....where hearts minds and souls in darkness only dwell robbed of warmth and light and life, tragically oblivious to their plight. For how would one miss light if there had never been any? It must've been imperceptible...a cry, silent, barely a ripple, superseding the sound barrier, yet making a stir somewhere in a beyond place ruled by a breaker of chains and fierce free-er of captives. the giver of life himself came. in answer to an escaped tear he came piercing darkness, loosening shackles and setting a nearly dead captive free. it wasn't until then i realized that there is purpose in everything. there are no accidents. no fate. that i was born for a reason and a reason forged since before the foundation of the world. that although this life may be a mere blip, and that i am here now and will become dust in the wind, i am on a journey leading to eternity, and in the most unexpected of ways "accidents" or fateful interruptions or collisions intrude into our lives and perhaps it is not until later that we realize how utterly necessary they are.

if you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you, whereas if you do not bring forth that which is within you what you do not bring forth will destroy you a quote which shocked the goblin because although it seemed exactly the point that goblin was getting at by posting like this, it actually came from the gnostic gospels, so the goblin simply repeated "...when I look at the thread, it's a fun game with the others here but when I look at the slot itself, I am alone and it isn't a game at all, instead it's a journey to self now..."

the goblin doesn't have bad days, "...to be able to post means that it is a good day..." said the goblin, confessing that some good days were more soul-testing than others because there was little love lost between the goblin himself, his dailylife, and the moneygod, in that what the goblin wanted was an impossible freedom, while what dailylife wanted was all so very reasonable yet all so superficial too, while what that moneygod wanted was one's continued commitment to some cheap slavery, so the goblin was just trying to square this triangle then

the goblin was thinking about those toxic banks, seeing only three basic paths here where none of them seemed ideal, "...first the government could keep on injecting tax payer's money into those banks as america has done, meaning that the banks would then have no real incentive to correct their ways since the banks would interpret it that the government would continue throwing good money after bad regardless..." explained the goblin turning to the other two paths now, continuing "...or the government could nationalize those banks, as the british have done, which would still mean using tax payer's money, resulting in a weakened currency where the burden of debt has been transferred from those bank to the state itself, spreading the doubt across from the banks to the wider economy...", whereupon the goblin, thought upon the last path now, explaining "...now the Swiss, in fact, do not have enough money to bail out their banks, so their banks would have to go to the wall where all those who had put their savings into those banks, would lose all by it...", and no the goblin didn't wish to choose here, no he wasn't even arguing that any one of these three paths was better than the two others here, only that he wanted to define for himself the nature of the crossroads facing governments the banks and the system at large, while still knowing too that the time sitting at the crossroads was fast running out

"...thanks admin..." said the goblin aware that it was very early days on this forum still, "...ah but over time most people do evolve their posting styles and content, no not that that is actually expected of them, nor would they believe me if I stated it openly now, but clearly anyone who keeps track of their posts is changed by it eventually..." mentioned the goblin again, adding "...so think back upon this point in six months time, seeing if you too have progressed in some way, where all this is just an unavoidable result from the practice of polishing one's posts I suppose, it's simply the change from subjectively tagging posts for fun with others here to objectively keeping track of one's posts for oneself now, and how does one keep track of one's posts you may ask, well, how about by air/edit/backup across forums, so welcome to my world of livewriting humans, for you see you've been wearing those ruby slippers all along only that you needed me to remind you of how to keep clicking them together again and again and again..."
