It does not matter whose sin is greater. If we offend in one we offend all. "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it." What people do and why they do it are two different things. There is a difference between a reason and an excuse. We may have our reasons, they do not excuse us. "Shall we do evil that good may come of it? God forbid."
We are to pray for discernment. We are to "test the spirits, to see if they are from men or God." We are to judge the church. Not the world. We are to ascertain the works of Christians, not to pronounce eternal death. "Better is the rebuke of a friend than the flattery of an enemy." There are times we do stop trying with some people. We may not be the right one to reach them. Or, the time may not be right for them. Remember, " If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet?
This post is simply an FYI. Generally speaking, when talking to a skeptic like myself, if you can't express your argument without having to resort to quoting scripture, then it probably isn't going to be very effective. I'll simply see it as little more than 'because the bible tells me so'.
On the other hand, if you can tell me from your heart, in your own words, why you believe that something is true, then at least I'll know that you're not just quoting dogma from a book.
