repost from elsewhere, the "what are you eating" thread

"...just another day with a coffee and a croissant then..." ventured the goblin looking out from the bistro at a troubled sky over a winter's street, where cars whizzed by on a tarmac road lined by gray cold damp paving stones for the passers by, people preoccupied by dailylife, shopping, commuting, or meeting others perhaps, but no, what they were was actually doing was living/dying through their moments, eating the sinews of society that then eats them in return, merely the goblin was no different than that save that he was eating all this with his pen now, while inside himself he was still young at heart though

Wonderful, just wonderful. Did you know Putin fired an ICBM just to rattle the rest of the worlds nerves? Wonderful,,,,

"...this is so open to conjecture at this point that my guess is a good as yours..." ventured the goblin to the old soldier, adding "...for example it could be that puntin is calling obama's bluff knowing that america is not ready, just as it could be obama's choosing this as a false flag, but they've been provoking each other for years, and up goes the ratings each time, and in all likelihood ukraine, or the ukraines then, will just go their separate ways with the west getting one half with russia getting the other, with each blaming the other for the spilt...", so no, poland prier to ww2 it wasn't, where the russians might try for the whole country perhaps, but that the would mean that the other ex-soviet states would rearm against russia seeing that russia's intentions and cover were blown, and where russia instead only needed to wait to gain by soft economics that which costly brute force would gain them, adding "...the ukraines in themselves are unimportant, they are the precursor to things to come is my view, they a testing each other's weaknesses in my opinion..."

Nuclear weapons are not relevant to the situation. Even in a Cold War WW3 scenario, they aren't used except as a last ditch effort by the Russians, and even then only in limited fashion and usually only warning shots into the sea.
"...says who then..." inquired the goblin, adding "...is there someone with a magic understanding who says accidents can't ever happen because some untried wargame textbooks clearly states it as fact, where the simple truth is that this scenario has never been played out for real, and that misunderstandings do occur, etc., I mean would that be the same academic advisers who thought ww1 would be nicely over in two weeks...", in fact, the goblin suspected that not all nukes were accounted for worldwide anyway, and moreover, that something that looks as clear cut as this might become horribly protracted, concluding "...no I don't think that this is the coming big war here, I feel it's the wrong place for it, but then again I'm not exactly dismissive of whatever blunder may yet occur there, for the hatred will run deep now even if the country were to split into two halves relatively peacefully...", where the kashmir region between india and pakistan sprung to the goblin's mind here

repost from elsewhere, the "about to out and about" thread

"...because the moon is a wink upon this starlit night's sky tonight, just it's time to catch my thoughts outside again..." ventured the goblin risking the bitter cold too, smiling "...so come with me my ghosts and let us share awhile in this darkness here, and leave daytime to that rat-race there so come let us catch the moon's smile in the branches of trees, or observe its dancing reflections on the waters from the riverbank, for our midnight walk now makes no sense to those who would be objective about it, yet subjectively though, it makes every sense, for every sense is so heightened by it too, so much so in fact that one would wonder why such a nonsense as a midnight walk made such thoughtful sense all the same..."

repost from elsewhere, the trolls again

"Mr fleamailboy, they have these things called IPs now and other methods of identifying alter egos" said the dudster sipping on his first coffee of certainly many to come.. .."ah yes indeed, perhaps you should post some p*rn and find out" laughed the dudster musing at his own hilarity.. .."hah"
"...the computer is second hand, ip address is static with the session, then mac address behind the ip address is a standard linux clone, the bistro has lots of internet users, plus if I really wanted to go overboard I could do the my session from a live CD using a computer with no harddrive at all, or from a computer in the library or university..." but then the goblin felt it best to put the dudster mind at rest, confiding "...they probably know who I am already only that I'd never ever admit it to them, where obstruction of justice is a crime indeed but I'd rather go to prison than admit my identity here, no p*rn is not my style, not even trolling is my style, but I'll admit that I'm somewhat subversive, where my subversive nature is something that might get one into far more trouble in the end..."

repost from elsewhere, the troll's forum

ban that guy
"...banning someone means what exactly, where and when, one merely creates a new account from a different email address and posts back on the forum anew..." mentioned the goblin feeling he had to be honest now, saying "...and besides too, if we start banning trolls from this forum here, then other forums will only get plagued by them and then forumland will be awash with this froum's homeless, so no let's keep forumland that pristine place that we have all come to know and love by keeping all the forum disfunctionals here as ever..."

"...I don't know how many forums have called what us livewriters do as spam now, where I've been banned through that accusation a number of times too..." mentioned the goblin in passing now, adding "...truth is, though I would never admit it to their faces, they're probably unnerved by actual writing it seems, that is, that while it remains those typical snippets and tags, one is quite welcome but as soon as one posts a little more meaningfully with underlying pictures too up comes that accusation of spamming again, perhaps rooted in a fear of losing members, or their jealousy, or whatever then...", in fact, it was usually on the larger forums where most of this friction occurred, where it can also be seen as a challenge to their authority, but that was livewriting then, just going against the accepted way of doing things, adding "...anyway, for me there's little choice in the end, for I want that that illustrator's eye for pictures, oh and a writer's gift with words too, something that won't come by their simple snippets and tags..."

*Rattles his old style newspaper- "USA Today"- and gives a scowl that freezes the water in Goblins water glass* The foul Ukrainians have threatened to use nuclear weapons against the Russians! I've considered getting a more sensitive probe for my CDV700 radiation detector ( CD V-700 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) because I've always known some ass would use a nuke. Figured the North Koreans first, then the middle eastern- the Ukrainian's didn't even show up on my radar until a few hours ago. So I just spent $300 to upgrade my CDV700 to make sure I get ALL the radiation. I don't mind ladies who wear bikini's and have sun tans- I find the contrast very sexy- but I am against being nuked on general principals! Checked my gas masks to filter out the Alpha radiation, should probably get some potassium iodine, and I took the 10 hour/1 college credit free FEMA class on "Radiological Emergency Management" IS-3: Radiological Emergency Management | FEMA - Emergency Management Institute (EMI) Course I had taken the course some 8 years ago- figured it was time for an update. It's dinner time and I should raid the fridge- however, I have to wait until I'm done with the Veterans Administration's computer system. It's blinking it's little green eye at me telling me to log in, and get fondled by the electronic doctor.

("...one of your best yet..." went the goblin not knowing if the old soldier meant to write or whether it was a byproduct of his wish to relate his own mind now, adding "...I'm coming across an awful lot of humans on forumland who are either over complacent or over confident then, where my biggest fear is not that one side or the other wins, but that it becomes protracted where hate can cloud sense and where misunderstands and mishaps can and do occur...", where the goblin's mind fell upon those words those guns over there as the light brigade readied in disbelief)

repost from elsewhere, upon not trusting to reviews

“…me I try to chat with the author either on the forum itself, or on their blog then, or I wait till others are talking about someone and then try to chat them too…” mentioned the goblin, quickly adding “…well I tend to avoid an author who is alive but who forgoes any online presence almost as much as I avoid those authors who are only their books upon writer’s forums…”, but by now the goblin guessed that most humans reading this comment understood how “online” meant a two way street here, indeed those days of readersheep were fast disappearing in his view, smiling “…well now, if you buy a book without first probing the author, haven’t you only got yourself to blame if that book then falls short of your expectations…”, “…well it’s just as well you never write books goblin isn’t it…” intervened the slot at this point, continuing “…I mean goblin that normal people don’t even read this far do they…”, to which the goblin’s mind fell back to the line nobody reads my posts but it’s always somebody who replies

("...yes I suspect that radiation levels are going to rise, and that the governments are still going to pretend that nuclear reactors are safe too..." mentioned the goblin wondering if the old soldier could share his finding at some point, adding "...all I know is that it probably isn't what they're telling me...")

“...elusive isn't it, one both sees the vision for oneself and relates it to others in mere written footprints, where doesn't that ability only mark one out as a livewriter and makes that which goes on through one's mind a shared life or sorts...” mentioned the goblin knowing that some people could visualize well while still others could recite well, but only those who did both had signed that muse's pact so to speak, smiling “...me, I'm just a persona here I'm not even that which I wrote yesterday, for forumland doesn't remember anything before this point, so a livewriter is very much his namesake then, "live" that is, always just a few posts in front of his own oblivion, a survivor upon forumland perhaps, ever pacing his journey to self here, but never quite stopping lest the show leaves him behind...”

*Looks over his bifocals* Nuclear reactors are as safe and as effective as do not drink and drive or the use of condoms. The problem is lover's will remove the condom and reuse it, and while drinking and driving is a bad thing because it results in death most people have forgotten how many babies are CAUSED by drinking and driving also!!

If you notice there's only been one nuclear incident resulting in death (SL-1) and while civilian reactors are the one's with the problems the military reactors have zero problems.

The military reactors are just as powerful- if not more powerful- than their civilian counterparts; the difference is the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] monkeys who hold the whips over the reactor operators. The [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] monkeys- known as management which is a misnomer by definition- "need to save money for the stockholders". Unfortunately they interpret this as "cut a few safety corners".

*Sips his whisky* The military doesn't take chances on anything. It either works right or they don't go on the mission- its that simple. MAC in the air force stands for "Military Airlift Command" but is generally accepted to mean "Maybe Aircraft Come"- because if there's one thing wrong with it- the birds grounded.

The Russians simply take too many shortcuts- thats why their submarine crews are only conscripted for 2 years instead of 3 so they don't have their gonads fried off. The Senior Crews are kept far away from the reactor (shielding, distance and time= protection from radiation) so they can stay on post.

Meanwhile, Hitachi has made a proposal for a 30 year "nuclear battery"- it's a really cool design- it's simple, it's cheap (amortized over 30 years) and effective NRC: Power Reactor Innovative Small Module (PRISM) so the gov'ts looking at it.

the key is- keep the monkeys out, be happy with your rate of return now get out of the nuke control room and we wouldn't have 3 mile islands, or Chernobyl's

***Stunned look*** I wasn't cursing! I was using bold and italics to describe how the military's 100% safety record is due to no compromise's on safety. Its either 100% operational or its "we're not going on the mission until it's safe- period"

"...kudos for making me think upon it again..." went the goblin who had been keeping his eyes upon thyroid cancer reports coming out of japan, but who then turned his mind back to something else, adding "...love the internet here, where I was speaking today to a client who was bragging about how america was going to become self-sufficient in oil and gas soon, it came hot on the heals of a youtube steam that I saw about fracking, I said nothing but here's that stream then..."

repost from elsewhere, the "are you happy with your life" thread

On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you? For the first time I can actually give myself a 10.
"...I guess my dailylife is a fluctuation of any of those numbers between 2 and 9..." observed the goblin who seemed too old to feel any extreme towards dailylife, adding "...I'm a coward, one who no longer takes those risks of youth, and one that doesn't stray from that accepted norm where possible, a prisoner of my age perhaps where reckless youth has given way to such valued wisdom hasn't it, save that if I were to offer anyone advice it would be don't grow too wise too soon, lest you end up seeing through both your desires and your fears, and lest everything then becomes some mere external by that understanding that it is external then..."

*Pushes his glasses up his nose, pours more whisky and says* Happiness is subjective. The Buddhists believe to live in the moment and yet there has been parts of my life that has seemed like a whole week of Mondays.

Happiness would be getting this 1964 Victoreen CDV700 6B radiation detector operational and upgraded. I butchered it's socket for the Victoreen 6993 detector tube- the bakelite shattered on removal. Can I fix it? Yes, but it will require beer and money. Mostly beer, and the wife staying out of my hair".

Pausing "The vacuum tube demands 900 volts DC to operate- and the wiring being as old as it is, is a good way to get a jolt out of life if it isn't fixed correctly".

Just got my hair cut a few hours ago- had about 6" whacked off. You'll never guess who I waited in line with to get my hair cut- the 2 star Commanding General of the Washington State Air National Guard. We discussed the C-17 Globemaster III among other aircraft, the 777 that had gone down, and what a piece of junk the 787 is.

Then we started discussing the Ukraine mess along with the Afghani mess. Found some interesting insights- I thought I had some good "intelligence" but I got nothing on a 2 Star General, obviously who gets intelligence briefing's every morning.

I told him how I'd gotten shafted twice out of my Warrant Officer for the Army. He says he's 60 Warrants under headcount! **look of total disbelief** Well Sir, you could take my information and reactivate me for the good of the service- you have that authority since we're at war. You'd have to give me a P3 profile but I've got the schooling, the training and the experience. He laughed- "If I did that, they'd be all sorts of angry people- especially since I'm due for another 30% cut in my budget- 10% at the state and 20% at the Federal. I have 2,000 airmen to work on aircraft and not a single airframe! All my people have been working on Air Force birds!!

I gave him a mixed look of disbelief, shock and horror as I realized the number of federal laws and Washington state laws that would have to be broken for that to happen. Then over the next 24 months he's going to lose 800 plus another 400.

This 2 star General would have a command force of about 800 people!! That would normally be a Lt. Colonels slot. Not sure if I was more scandalized or shocked. Aghast was in there too.

"Sir, maybe it's time to pack it in an retire- unless you can make 3 or 4 star. And if you do, tell that [curse and curse, curse and curse- my version] of that clown in the White House to get us out of Afghanistan anyway.
~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, I ordered $40 in parts to overhaul my CDV700 today. It'll be an almost new machine by the time I get it rebuilt! $300 probe arrives tomorrow. I've got $60 in soldering tool's out in the truck right now to fix it.
~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow- Friday the 14th- I also get to start my new job this weekend of placing signs along road ways. So I'm happy for that. Pay's not much- but it's an excuse to get out of the house.

("...glad you found a job, I would like to have more work as I'm only working three or fours days a week where I'm finding my new role of semi retired hard to adjust to, and where if the work picks up I will perk up, whereas if not I dare say that dailylife's loss will be virtual reality's gain then..." mentioned the goblin wondering if brinny still witnessed)

the goblin thanked the old soldier for his company and his thoughts, remarking "...economic implosion leads to war, thouhg you know more than me on the war side of things then, but I for my part can't understand is the police force could ever come out with a verdict of "death by self inflicted wounds" by someone using a nailgun on themselves eight times, but anyway Richard Talley together with four other high level executives have committed suicide now, and the number goes up, so why now one asks oneself...", where the others were gabriel magee of jp morgan, bill broeksmit of deutsche bank, and mike dueker of russell Investments, to which the goblin remarked "...no I don't condone suicide but one would think that someone with enough money to get expert advice would go about their own suicide in a painlessly quick way..."
