In Job chapter one we are told that Job is perfect (or blameless) and upright and that one day when the sons of God gathered Satan came in among them and accused Job saying "he will curse you (God) to your face" if God's protective hedge were removed and Satan given free reign to hurt Job. Would you weep for Job when this happened were you a son of God in the gathering before God?

Job 1:6-12 NET Now the day came when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD – and Satan also arrived among them. (7) The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” And Satan answered the LORD, “From roving about on the earth, and from walking back and forth across it.” (8) So the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil.” (9) Then Satan answered the LORD, “Is it for nothing that Job fears God? (10) Have you not made a hedge around him and his household and all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock have increased in the land. (11) But extend your hand and strike everything he has, and he will no doubt curse you to your face!” (12) So the LORD said to Satan, “All right then, everything he has is in your power. Only do not extend your hand against the man himself!” So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

Absolutely not!

It is an amazing account of the power of repentance and the blessings of God.

Job 42:
2 “I know that You can do everything,
And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.
3 You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’
Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
4 Listen, please, and let me speak;
You said, ‘I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’
5 “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear,
But now my eye sees You.
6 Therefore I abhor myself,
And repent in dust and ashes.

then

12 Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. 13 He also had seven sons and three daughters. 14 And he called the name of the first Jemimah, the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-Happuch. 15 In all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.16 After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations. 17 So Job died, old and full of days.

Kind of reminds me of:

Psalm 34:
Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the Lord delivers him out of them all.

You would not shed even a little tear for the loss of ten children? I am surprised at that,

You didn’t ask that.

Sure, we sweep with those who are weeping.

You would not give a shout of praise for God’s forgiveness and restoration?

We also rejoice when one comes to repentance and is forgiven, restored and blessed by God

Too many people focus on everything but how Job was forgiven, restored and blessed.

Of course I would weep for Job....profusely! Not just because of what I read about him, but because of things I've experienced in my own life, when suffering devasting troubles finding so-caled "friends" pretending they have the word of God and all the answers. But learning to love those who think they know better is the challenge, and I congratulate Job for learning it.

Awesome. Also consider this. When Job had it all, he had so much spiritual depth and godly wisdom - gained through learned obedience - that he was inspired to dedicate himself to serving as his children's intercessor - knowing that no matter how he adored them he was well aware - known from his own experience - that the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Tamed only by God's grace.

As for the strength of his faith, after the hammer fell, it was demonstrated right off the bat in his acknowledgement of God's sovereignty, that He is good no matter what He causes or allows, and that no man should dare stand in judgement over Him.

Complain and lament to God, ok. Curse or question God's goodness? Negative. And for coming dangerously close, agreed, repented and forgiven.

Job even praises God despite his grief and loss - in the midst of poverty for riches - without any demands for restoration and healing.

The Apostle Paul must have learned from Job's example, eh?

Job 1:20-22 NIV

"At this, Job got up and tore his robe (grief) and shaved his head (humility). Then he fell to the ground in worship to God and said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will depart.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.”

In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing."

Ironic that his wife tempts him to speak out loud what he had been interceding for - that can be hidden in the heart.

A familiar temptation to us all, eh?

Cry for his family and his grief? Yes. But I have a fanciful inkling that when Job eventually stood before God in Heaven and reviewed his life here, that he declared that it was all worth it and that God's plan and execution was/is utterly brilliant!

My prayer for us all.

Psalm 46:10 ESV

"Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

God bless!

No. God was simply testing Job so that Job could understand errors in his faith and repent. God does this for all true believers. It is God's loving kindness that He chastens us so that we may conform to the image of His Son and we should be very grateful that He does so. It shows that He loves us and wants the best for us.

James 1:2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

It is hard for me to weep before an event occurs. For example, I know intellectually that as the war between Russian and Ukraine goes on, that more and more young men are going to be viciously killed because of the power-grabbing machinations of politicians. And that makes me very sad. But I don't weep. If, on the other hand, I was standing at the side of the body of the boy, I would certainly weep.
