if the local candidate for the party that you support was homosexual (by this I mean had openly and publicly stated that they were attracted to members of the same sex), would you still vote for them?
if they were homosexual but celibate?
if they were homosexual and in a same-sex relationship?
if they were straight but admitted to having previously experimented with gay sex?
if they are or were in a heterosexual relationship, but admitted that they were homosexual and had been trying to repress it and lying to themselves and others?

I said I would not vote for a gay candidate.

I make a distintion between homosexual (orientation) and gay (lifestyle).

So, perhaps if you had worded differently or not interchanged the terms I could have voted differently.

i would vote for someone even if they were gay if they ran on a pro-life anti-abortion platform (and their opponent was pro-abortion). But what is the likely hood of that ? Nada nada nada....

Never met a gay who did not think a woman should be given the choice to end the life of her own kid. Any out there (here) ?

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm lesbian and think abortion is the most wicked creation of man (I'm tolerant until you start killing. You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere). Now you know someone.

I'd vote for the best person for the job, regardless of gender, sexuality, race or creed. Of course, if they were standing for the party I support, that would make me more likely to vote for them anyway.

Depends. Did they come out and encourage folks to engage in the sinful behavior or were they against it?

if they were homosexual but celibate?

If their intent is to stay that way and not endorse sin, yep.

if they were homosexual and in a same-sex relationship?

Nope.

if they were straight but admitted to having previously experimented with gay sex?

If they are currently not involved in a sinful heterosexual /homosexual relationship, yep.

if they are or were in a heterosexual relationship, but admitted that they were homosexual and had been trying to repress it and lying to themselves and others?

Depends on what the extent of the heterosexual relationship is. If they are having premarital sex, nope.

...Zaac, how does any of that matter to them doing the job they would be elected to?
tulc(really curious now) :)

How does it NOT matter?

Take for instance a Rudy Giuliani. He's an adultering, parade his mistress around, divorce his wife, marry his mistress jerk who believes in a woman's right to kill a child.

Why would I trust someone like that to be a person of honor and character in making decisions that affect my life?

Same thing with any other candidates life. If you show yourself to lack character and Christ-centric morals, why would I as a Christian expect you to honor me and my wishes when you willfully disrespect and disobey Christ without repentance?

...so if he gets elected it's for life? :sorry: Or are there limits to how long they hold the job? If they do wrong can't they be recalled? Arrested? stripped of their position? They have to do their jobs or they don't get re-elected. right? So I'm still confused. How does who my dog catcher sleeps with effect how well he or she does their job?
tulc(thinks you should vote as you will using whatever criteria you want, I'm just trying to understand) :)

Then let me clear it up for you. As a Christian, I am to have a Kingdom perspective. And if you're dishonoring Christ with your behavior, I don't trust you to operate with character and morals.

That doesn't say that you won't. But it says there is a pattern that points to you not doing so.

And if I'm voting to put you in a position of authority where you have influence over others, as a Christian, what you're doing in your private life is very relevant to me.

Senator Craig has shown himself to be a liar and of poor character. I wouldn't want him as my representative.

As a Christian, if you are living in willful disobedience to God's Word, I don't want or need your representation no matter how good a job you're doing.

A lot of folks have a secular view and they believe that as long as the person is doing what they were elected to do, their private lives should bear no relevance to the job.

As a Christian, I disagree. As a Christian I am here to influence people for Christ, and it affects my testimony to be supportive of that which is at odds with Christ and astumbling block to one and many.

That's odd. Whenever I have cause to make a distinction between the orientation and engaging in (same-sex) sexual activity I make the distinction the opposite direction. Gays are those with the orientation. Homosexuality is the activity.

Nope.

But how would you know? I mean, short of them actually saying, "by the way, I'm gay, and this is my boyfriend," you're not going to know, and even then you don't have any inside information on whether they're sexually active. Unless of course they actually make a point of saying that, but in my experience, people don't tend to talk about their sexual activities or lack thereof.

David.
