Oh dear! These language difficulties. A cottage garden is one that has all its flowers, shrubbery, trees muddled up together, with winding paths, nooks hidden away - bit messy really. A formal garden, as its name implies, is exactly the opposite - straight paths, set out in a neat, orderly, often geometrical way with all plants of the same variety bunched together. (I don't know what this means either but he always looks such fun I thought I'd use him)

(great - that's one more new thing I learned today! Personally my 'cottage garden' is rapidly reverting to complete bushland!))
