Would you fight if the Gov't tried to take your home?

Would you fight if the Gov't tried to take your home?

  • This is WAR! Try that with me and somebody is going to take a free trip to the morgue...

  • I would fight, but legal battles only.

  • I would fight, legal battles only, but only if the $$$ offered was too little.

  • I would give up my home for the common good. Baaaaaaaa!

i picked the first option. if the government can pervert the law to seize your home, then there is no option to approach it through legal matters. I would use my second ammendment right to fight against the atrocities against the constitution.

I voted for the third option, although they would have to make a ridiculously low offer for my old run-down house before I would go to court over it. Heck, I'm in such a liberal section of Los Angeles County that I'm somewhat hoping for the local government to help force me out. I'm just too old and tired to make arrangements to get my house in a saleable condition. Maybe the county will decide it needs another "man-made lake" or larger schools in my area.

Lots of people have been forced off their properties in California to make way for more profitable developers. They've also ordered evictions of entire apartment complexes in Los Angeles because the locals decide there is too much crime in the area...people protested their being forced out because they weren't all criminals.

I wouldn't because my house is going up for sale in September and I don't care who buys it.

BUT I'm near Atlantic City and the casinos have tried for years to get homeowners to sell their property where it "infringes" on development plans. So far New Jersey has not allowed it, but that will fall by the wayside now. Also, certain charities have property that the casinos consider valuable and won't leave either.

Yesterday was certainly a sad day for freedom in the USA! :(

I cannot believe this new ruling, it just sounds antithetical to America :(
If/when the government becomes an empire/dictatorship (I think it's real possible in the future), I fear this law can be used to target whoever opposes the ruling party.

I believe it will change though. Or at least I hope so. I hope the that congress looks at this and if not I hope that each individual state will write up some type of legislation to prevent to much of this from happening. I think that if it happens to often that eventually the law makers would have to do something about it or face some bad consiquences.

First option. As someone mentioned earlier, rulings like this are the reason for the 2nd amendment, an amendment I happen to support fully (yes some dems do like the right to bear arms :)). I'll fight anyone (peacefully at first) who tries to go against the foundation of this nation, whether they are a neocon or a group of 5 liberal judges who seem to have lost their minds.

I'm glad to see a dem with a spine (please don't take that as an insult to you).

They can have my property over my cold dead body...and a couple thousand rounds worth of spent shell casings.

If the government wanted to take my home for public use, as the constitution allows, I would fight it in court, but I if I was compensated, then we don't have a problem. If they tried to take my home because Wal Mart wants to build on my property and has enticed the government to rob me so that they can benefit from the sales tax, then you'd better believe I'd fight. In the latter case, the government can have my house after they pull my charred corpse out of it. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

i love that quote. :)

to some, a home is far more than a building. it can be the birthplace of their grandparents, a lake can hold so many cherished memories and a simple tree could have supported a tire swing that has been used for generations. those things are priceless to some, and i would hate to think the government can have the audacity to kick you out for what ever reasons THEY see fit. Even if monetary compensation is offered, some things just arent for sale, and they should stay that way.

I absolutely agree. What's worse is it will probably be used to build a parking lot or Wal-Mart, you know, whoever paid the government the most.

I knew this sort of thing was coming. I think this is the beginning of the end for our country. America is now too complacent and a large percentage of the population is too ignorant to do anything about it. The government can walk all over us now and we've allowed such a nanny state to develop that there's little we can really do.

With the news about the eminent domain ruling out, I have to ask...

Would you fight against the Gov't, if they tried to take your home?
It appears the supreme court made a bad decision with this one. I mean shopping malls over my home? I wonder if someone tried to bulldoze their homes if they would raise a stink?

Rock on! I think this eminent domain thing is idiotic. No one can give me a good reason that the government should be able to just buy someone's property as much as they do. There are probably some reasons they'd need to but those are very view.

 RTKABA

I am selling my home, and wouldn't have a problem, if they offered fair market value. But if they want to take a home I am happy with then I would have a problem.
I wold be nice until I couldn't be nice anymore. IE try to do it legally.
How many people can afford to hire a lawyer and take it to the supreme court?
(years of fighting.)

Sometimes you must stand up to tyranny. I have sworn on the bible to fight all enemies, foriegn and domestic.

This is why I've been railing against public education for the past few years. (Yes, I can turn almost any topic to public education!) We (both Canadians and Americans) have allowed our education system to be hijacked with an elitist agenda that serves the purpose of big government: lackadaisical workforce, disinterested citizens, and ill-informed voters. Quite simply, we can no longer count on those on whom we have trusted for the past several decades to serve the interests of ourselves and our children.

Here's a challenge for every single parent out there: even if you can't devote the time to homeschooling (and I recognize that many people can't), it is up to YOU to ensure that your children DO get a thorough grounding in civic responsibility (at the very least) because the school system has amply demonstrated that their view of 'civic responsibility' is promoting promiscuity and rewriting history to make Western civilization look utterly evil.

Teach your kids about the Constitution, teach them about the Founding Fathers, teach them what they need to know about what is happening in the world. Don't trust the public education system any more; they are not only complicit in the dumbing down of our society, they are profiting from it, as is the bureaucracy.

It's up to you, people; either start taking notice and responsibility, or watch as the dream of the West dies with the sound of a bulldozer running over your azaleas.
