Would you change churches

Would you go to another church that supported your view?

  • Yes, I could not stay in a church that taught error.

  • No, creation theory isn't that important of an issue.

  • Maybe, it depends on several circumstances.

  • I don't know.

...if your pastor/priest/rabbi, etc. began to expound a view of creation that contradicted your own? This can be answered regardless of your origins view. If this week in church you heard the other view preached, would you leave the church?

My pastor DOES preach YEC'ism. It is definitely not important enough to change from our family church (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousin is the youth pastor, etc).

Also, I feel it is important to be able to monitor the state of the youth and my sunday school students to make sure that those who suffer a crisis of faith due to the YEC teaching do not leave the church or stop believing.

since the confession and creation report don't allow PCA pastors to be further left than OEC/framework, i will never encounter a TE pastor. so what? it is not a salvation issue.
If this week in church you heard the other view preached, would you leave the church?
personally, i've never known anything but YECist pastors.

I put maybe, depending on several circumstances. If I was in a location where there were few Christians, and the only local church was a small evangelical gathering with a pastor who believed TE theology, I may join the church. It would depend on other factors such as how much of an issue was made of it in the church, how accomodating people were to other beliefs, and how much those views influenced other important doctrinal issues.

I put maybe. It would depend on many issues. One would be how strong my connection to the congregation was. Pastors often come and go. Family and friends are not worth giving up because one pastor disagrees with me.

But if I were seeking a new church connection I would not make one where such disagreement exists.

Another factor would be how important the issue was in the life of the congregation. If the pastor is YEC, but never preaches on the issue, I could live with that. (I have never known a TE pastor to preach on evolution even when preaching on creation.)

But if the subject is raised frequently, and the congregation is encouraged to hold "educational" events on YEC; if there is an organized program of indoctrinating young people in YEC----then I would re-consider. I would not permit my children to be exposed to this teaching as part of their Christian education.

It would depend very strongly on the gravity of their view and their toleration af other views. Though I believe that simply agreeing that we were Created by the Creativity of God the Father through God the Son would satisfy anyone, even if differing on how. Just as long as the essentials are in order.
My pastor could comment on a long earth creation and I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow, same with Gap theory, I don't really care. Now if he said something of Theistic Evolution I would speak with him after service along with about the rest of the congregation, LoL. But even with that I would leave only if he condemned me for my Young Earth view.

No. I am a theistic evolutionist. My paster is a YEC. I disagree with him strongly on that position, but he doesn't make it so big an issue that I can't stay in the church. At other churches, I have had people ask me if I wouldn't be happier at other churches because of my beliefs.
