• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would it be easier if God did not exist?

I've found that another facet of salvation is that God saved us from ourselves. Your salvation is between you and God and not you and anyone else. I'm glad for this because I cant' seem to fit in with anyone. I don't like church and have a bad attitude about it in general.
Life is our relationship with God. That is our purpose. When that gets sorted out, other things start to work out too. It doesn't make life all happy and stuff, but it sorts things out.

Hey Mr. Cheese!
I hear you totally about not being able really to feel you can fit in with anyone. I feel similar. Even around Christians I feel I still don't quite fit, and this bugs me because if I can't fit around them then who can I fit around?
I am not too keen on church either sometimes, but it can be good as well. I think the worst thing if there was no God is that then I would be truly alone, and there would be NO ONE who knew how I felt or anything. That would truly send me into a really bad depression, cause then what would ever be worth it? But God knows us better than we know ourselves, and knows what we want and need even when we don't know or can't put our finger on it. Even if the whole world shunned me, at least God still accepts me.

Well actually I spend my time either in bed or online.

ok, so what does that tell us ? - maybe you need to think about doing something to help others. Sometimes, even when we feel at our least significant, we have so much to offer, but we fail to see it for. Perhaps you could start out with just 1 goal a day - perhaps paying a visit to someone who is in need, or sorting out some stuff to donate to charity, or offering to help out with church activities or tidying up your room, showing thoughtfulness for a family member, cooking a meal unexpectedly...

When our lives revolve around what we want and our own sorrowfulness, we need to motivate ourselves or allow ourselves to be motivated by others - so that the focus is taken away from us. Over time, the less you think about you, the greater the benefit will be. There's nothing so great as giving. And we ALL have something to give. It just takes some of us a while to figure out what that is!

As for the internet - i know that it can be quite addictive, and beds - well, they are really cosy...but there is more to life than a computer and a bed, and you're never going to find much about that if you don't take some positive steps to change things for yourself.

well, i'm sorry to get heavy here, but there are sins such as having immoral thoughts, telling a lie, ommitting a necessary truth - and there are sins such as committing adultery, murder, stealing, etc... all sin, is sin in the eye's of God.

I'm not quite sure which sin is 'fun', as you say, perhaps you could enlighten me ?

Well I've just never had that fire for God, I don't really know how to get that, I've prayed for it before and never got it.

Me too - or but rarely.

But I have come to terms with it. It's really about psychology.

I'm a member of CAMRA (*** has this got to do with it, you ask...). Well, it's because I care about good beer. But I'm not fanatical. I don't go to the socials, or write lots of letters to What's Brewing about cask breathers or the merits of Czechoslovakian breweries. I just go to the pub, buy good beer and enjoy it. And yet I probably enjoy a good pint, and grieve at the replacement of hand pumps with "creamflow" and lager fonts as much as the most active member.

Some people have a more obvious (to them and others) emotional response to things that matter to them than others.

I raised this issue of "lack of fire" on another board (PM me for details if you like - it's a good board but I don't want to open it up to flooding) and it was pointed out I do have fire - I argue strongly about injustice, about things like Creationism that I believe discredit Christianity, about intolerance and hatred. I support organisations like Christian Aid trying to make a real difference in these spheres. It isn't something I'd be inclined to describe as "fire for God", but actually, it's the same response to convictions that matter to me.

Most important thing is not to worry about it. If God wants you "on fire for Him", He will arrange it.

Well, some sins re not fun at all(the ones you mentioned). But, on the flip side, getting intoxicated is fun for many and getting high is as well. And then there is always having sex which many fall into.

So, sin is a double edged sword you know? Some sin is fun. But obviously, it's all wrong.

Catch my drift now?
