After reading the replies to my Ormylia topic, I began chatting with my friend who is Greek Orthodox. He told me he does attend the local church, but usually only on the holidays. I asked him if he thinks I could go without an invitation, he thought so but said he was not sure. Would it be alright for me just to attend a service or should I keep looking for some sort of invitation?

The Orthodox Church welcomes all to its services.

The main Sunday service, the 'Divine Liturgy' is usually just over an hour long and contains much of the most beautiful prayers and ceremony of the Orthodox Church.
In some churches persons who are not full members of the church (baptism and chrismation) are required to wait outside the main body of the church while the eucharistic prayer is said and the communions are made. Personally I have never encountered this except for one church in Athens.

Just turn up in appropriate dress (long sleeves, skirt/trousers below knees, headscarf is optional but used more frequently in Russian churches in my experience).

As a catholic I reckon you'll recognise a great deal of the liturgy.

Let us know what you think. :)
