• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You're probably a 'baby' Christian. But not a 'worst' Christian for sure.

You'll grow up eventually. You're already being convicted by the Lord.. or you wouldn't be worrying about your walk with Him. :)

The more you study, learn about the Lord, and commune with Him.. -the more you'll grow.

i think i'm the worst christian in the world. i'm hopeless. i understand scripture, yet i never put it into practice. i feel like i'm dying...like i will lead a short life. i dont want sympathy. i just want friends. i think i did this to myself...
lol I doubt that. We all are a work in progress.

Proverbs 19:8 "To acquire wisdom is to love oneself; people who cherish understanding will prosper."

Knowledge is reading the scriptures. Wisdom is applying that knowledge to your life. Understanding is experience as you apply the knowledge, so you understand how it came to be.

When I first became a christian I was gun-ho to follow everything about it. I did good for while, then I burned out over and over again. You can't snap your fingers and become a perfect christian. Have to slowly adapt Jesus' philosophy to your own, or just like John the Baptist said.

John 3
"30 He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less."

Spiritual maturity takes a life time. Keep faith and hope, take it one problem at a time. Also learn to keep your patience and to forgive yourself when you stumble big time.

Also I found the scriptures wisdom doesn't just pour out on first glance. Preachers help me better understand great points that I missed. Also when I have specific problem, I am amazed of wisdom I missed from books I read already.

If specific problem that is eatting at you, there are numerous resources here to help you.

Matthew 7:7
7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you."

I used to think that way. It is an attack of Satan to get your eyes of Christ and onto yourself. Satan is a liar and must be rebuked with Scriptures.

All Christians are works in progress, and must be discipled. Get into a Bible study at church and find someone to disciple you. Study the Word and develop an accountability friendship with that person.

Here are some truths from scripture to help you. Read this often and pray for God to have them sink into your heart.

Who I Am In Christ

I am accepted...

John 1:12

I am God's child.

John 15:15
As a disciple, I am a friend of Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:1

I have been justified.

1 Corinthians 6:17

I am united with the Lord, and I am one with Him in spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I have been bought with a price and I belong to God.

1 Corinthians 12:27

I am a member of Christ's body.

Ephesians 1:3-8

I have been chosen by God and adopted as His child.

Colossians 1:13-14

I have been redeemed and forgiven of all my sins.

Colossians 2:9-10
I am complete in Christ.

Hebrews 4:14-16

I have direct access to the throne of grace through Jesus Christ.

I am secure...

Romans 8:1-2

I am free from condemnation.

Romans 8:28

I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances.

Romans 8:31-39

I am free from any condemnation brought against me and I cannot be separated from the love of God.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22

I have been established, anointed and sealed by God.

Colossians 3:1-4

I am hidden with Christ in God.

Philippians 1:6

I am confident that God will complete the good work He started in me.

Philippians 3:20

I am a citizen of heaven.

2 Timothy 1:7

I have not been given a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.

1 John 5:18

I am born of God and the evil one cannot touch me.

I am significant...

John 15:5

I am a branch of Jesus Christ, the true vine, and a channel of His life.

John 15:16

I have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit.

1 Corinthians 3:16
I am God's temple.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21
I am a minister of reconciliation for God.

Ephesians 2:6

I am seated with Jesus Christ in the heavenly realm.

Ephesians 2:10

I am God's workmanship.

Ephesians 3:12

I may approach God with freedom and confidence.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

My Mum has a fridge magnet on her fridge (surprisingly place for it, I know ;)) that says "Please be patient - God has not finished with me yet"

My friend, I know it sometimes feel like we are taking one step forward and then four backwards. It's part and parcel of being human. In honesty, we could never do anything in our own strength - but God's grace is all we need.

The good news is you're not the first person to feel like this. Indeed, one of the greatest prophets of the Old Testament had the same thought of himself - Jeremiah thought he wasn't good enough to be used by God, that he had messed up to much. God told him to go down to the town and find a potter, and just watch the potter at work. Whenever the pot the potter was working on turned out badly or went wrong, as sometimes happens when you are working with clay, the potter would simply start over and use the same clay to make another pot. God's message came to Jeremiah - can't I do the same with you as the potter does with this clay (Jeremiah 18 if you want to check I'm not leading you up the garden path!).

Yeah, it is sometimes discouraging to look at all the mess and sin and stuff in our life and still trust God, but take heart - God hasn't finished the job he has started. You're in the potter's hand now, he is refining you - one day, you'll be a glorious pot, fit to sit in prime place in the master's hall :)

Blessings
David

Keep yourself immersed in the words of Jesus. Read the Beatitudes. Read the Bible consistently, and it will all fall into place. At the age of 23, you have a lot of "walking with the Lord" to do, and we all need this. Don't worry, you get there step by step, not leaps and bounds.

You're finding it's tough to put this stuff into practice, alone. Good! You're finding out something that many Christians aren't really aware of! Christ set up something so that Christians are among group of friends to help him figure out what's going on. Even when I do know, "sin is right there with me" (end of Rom 7). It's only by discussing through some really sensitive things with really close friends that this gets solved.

Really close friendships are not easy to build. They don't appear instantly, even among Christians. Y'hafta start out slow and with smaller problems and build them up. So get involved. It takes time to track down groups like this that're alive, that are willing to dip into serious issues. So expect it to take time. We'll be praying for you.

We ALL mess up from time to time. We all have things we know we should be doing as Christians that we don't do. You are certainly not alone in that, nor the worst at it.

If you ever need to chat, my PM box is open.

YOU ARE NOT The WORST CHRISTIAN in THE WORLD.

Honestly I can list names if need be but not here (LOL My attempt at humor to cheer you up)

I placed a similar message on the NON- Denom board and got a lot of good feedback from a lot of different people here.

I have found, in my own life, that it is often difficult for me to accept, and understand even, God's Love. That may, more than anything else be the root of my problem.
My suggestion, first off, is to ask yourself where God's Love for you is, and how much you can truly understand and accept it. Build on that. God does love us even when we can't understand it. But I am seeing that above all else, that must remain as a constant (not from God because God's love is constant) but From MY point of view, my ability to accept.

I know that making friends in a church is difficult. I cannot offer advice there, I have not gotten to that stage yet, and may never . But there are many good people on this board who go to church and have friends there, they are the ones who can help you discover the "secret" of this.

I wish you all the best .
