This is a hard one. I generally did not finish animes that put me off. Also, a lot of animes are mediocre and have their lows and highs.
I think of all shounen, Dragonball and its various incarnations takes the crown. It is blatant riddled with shounen cliches. And worse of all, it was like a soap; despite hardly anything happening, it could take numerous episodes before a fight was getting anywhere.
But the animes which I thought were truly bad are:
Jubei Chan: Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch was terrible, in my opinion. The opening theme was good, but it just did not fit the animation of someone riding a bicycle.. The story, the protagonist, the characters, some of the art. It just suspended disbelief too much, that it simply made no sense. Like to cool Jubei off, the father stripped her of all her clothes and he himself stripped down to his underwear and lay on top of her.. It seems to me that would not cool her off and it would be much easier to carry her to a bath/shower or simply douse her in water..
s-CRY-ed did not go anywhere and was just pretty bad. the art style was not my cup of tea either. When I saw a Gundam anime (SEED, I think), with that art style (the main male, teen character looking like a cutsey girl) I stopped right away.
Fushigi Yuugi. The idea behind it is good, but pretty much anything of the author behind this story, makes me run for the hills. Terrible main character. Everyone who has not been attached falls for her and there is no reason for it, seen she is almost a constant damsel in distress. I've seen pets smarter than her (animals don't just run into obvious danger because they can't contain their greed for food). But I could just go on and rant about how terrible she is forever
