I believe in God and i'm trying to accept Jesus as my saviour again (I did when I was younger, but recently I have become distracted). I have committed forgivable sins. What must I do to ensure I will be saved?

The process below in "Answered Prayer" is the same process
as being saved. It's the only "work" you need to do to be saved.

My advice is to stop putting yourself before God as in the statement "I do to ensure". You do nothing. Christ is Saviour, not you. He saves. He ensures. You do not. If you try to put your salvation in your own hands, you will fail. That is why Jesus died, because you cannot "ensure" anything, least of all your own salvation. Beware of people who attempt to cause you to place your salvation into your own hands: they are leading you into death at your own hands.

If there were a way that you could ensure your own salvation, why do you think the Father would send His Son to suffer and die that way that He did?

I believe once saved always saved. If a men or woman is born again into GOD's kingdom no one can take that from them. I also believe that whom the Father loves he chastened. All can go stray but if you do without the Holy Spirit's convictions and GOD's chastening then that's when I believe you need to check your relationship with Christ. We are born once physically and once spiritually. Satan causes doubts and unbelief to hide your testimony. GOD loves us through Christ Jesus, His son and our Lord and Saviour.

Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

John 3:16-18 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. (18) Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Acts 16:30-31 Then he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" (31) And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

Romans 10:13-17 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (14) How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? (15) And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!" (16) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?" (17) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

A person is not saved multiple times throughout their life. You may have had a false conversion when you were younger. Nowhere in the Bible are we told to "accept Jesus" as if He is some poor beggar looking for a handout. He is God!

God is the one who gives you assurance of salvation. Read and study the Bible as often as possible and cry out to God for Him to save you, He is faithful and He will.

I have committed homosexual actions and have not repented, this is my biggest worry.

Then repent today and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. You will no longer need to worry if you abandon your sins and trust in Jesus Christ.

I'm not all that sure how to

Realize that God is holy, forsake your sin, radically remove all temptations to sin from your life, seek Biblical counseling, stop relying on your works, and cry out to God to free you from bondage to sin.

Contrary to some published reports, no one goes to Hell for being a homosexual or participating in homosexual activities.

That is heresy friend. God is holy and just and He will turn a blind eye to sin. God has defined homosexuality to be sin in the Bible.

Believe in JESUS as the son of GOD the heavenly father and in faith we must adhere to works for.....

James 2:14-26New King James Version (NKJV)
Faith Without Works Is Dead
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by myworks. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

LOVE is the works spoken of....to love one another we will not harm one another. In this we will help one another, care for one another and not give rise to hate; which is in opposition to love and opposes it.

1 John 4:20King James Version (KJV)

20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

It is important that we put on the full armor of GOD so the enemies arrows cannot pierce us and we are protected from the schemes(punctures)of the devil whom is roaring around us like a lion; seeking whom it can devour. We must stand steadfast, remain faithful so we are always ready.

1 Corinthians 13:13 King James Version (KJV)
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity(love), these three; but the greatest of these is charity(love). it is also the commandment (to LOVE)we are given.

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

According to what you are worried about ..." Hell" then only Christ is your answer.

The bible gives the following on how to be saved ...
Acts 16:31 "Believe in Christ the Lord"

Romans 10:9 "Believe Christ is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead."

Why ..?
Only Christ whose earthly name is Jesus spoken in detail about "Hell" and He visited and was raised to a place of honor with God the Father from that place you are concerned about.

So get to know Christ and experience the joy of not having to worry about "Hell"

Hello Matthew,

I'm in the same boat as you. I realized that I was not living an upright life and was not considering Jesus in my life and then it suddenly dawned on me how far I had allowed myself to drift from His presence; a realization of which terrified me to no end. I've been reading the bible more lately and looking up definitions and explanations and interpretations to better understand my relationship to the world and Him now.

To tell you the truth, I feel so much better than I did even one month ago. I am constantly taking an inventory of 10 commandments and scrutinizing my conduct and the conduct of my heart to bear it as open as possible to Jesus. There's still regretful feelings but those and impossible to terminate permanently as we are imperfect beings. So long as we try and try again.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

I believe in God and i'm trying to accept Jesus as my saviour again (I did when I was younger, but recently I have become distracted). I have committed forgivable sins. What must I do to ensure I will be saved?

First, I want to say, there is nothing that you can do to ensure that you are saved. Salvation, if it means forgiveness of sins is free for all people. But to get eternal life, person must be righteous:

These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
Mat. 25:46

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23

So, to get eternal life, one must be righteous. And here are some examples that can show is person righteous or not.

He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever is born of God doesn't commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can't sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn't do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn't love his brother.
1 John 3:7-10

"Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: 'God, I thank you, that I am not like the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.' But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn't even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

In Luke 13, Jesus makes it extremely clear that people must repent in order to be saved. He also makes it super clear that a lot of people are going to think they are saved, but they will not make it "through the narrow door." That these two clear-as-day lessons are together in the same chapter is not a coincidence, in my opinion.

I mean think about it. It begins with Jesus saying multiple times that if you do not repent, then you will perish / not be saved. Then in His explanation about the ones who are not saved but thought they were going to be saved, Jesus says His response to them will be, "I don’t know you," meaning they never really sought Jesus. So this is pretty blatantly demonstrated in anyone acting like you don't have to repent in order to be saved, since it shows a blatant disregard for Jesus' own words, i.e. they never really sought to understand or obey Jesus' teachings. Hence Jesus will have never known them in that regard.

There are other similar warnings throughout the Gospel books.

It might seem a little cryptic only because so much that is required is just a given if you actually have faith in Jesus. It's sort of like the classic relationship advice, that if someone loves you, then they act like they love you, they don't just say it but never act like it.

So some will say that all you have to do is have faith in Jesus, and that is not incorrect. It's just that if you actually have faith in Jesus, then your faith will produce "fruits" as the scriptures put it. You will want to study Jesus' teachings. You will want to incorporate them into your life. You will want to repent. You will try to avoid sinning to the best of your ability.

Repenting is not a super emotional experience for everyone. Different people work differently when it comes to emotions, which are physiological mechanisms of our earthly bodies. It's not like someone with a dissociative disorder is incapable of repenting because they are emotionally numb most of the time, or like someone with very intense emotions is repenting REALLY HARDCORE because they cry a lot. The scriptures warn that the heart is deceitful, in large part because emotions are not truth. They are just emotions. So you don't have to have the 'right' emotions. Obedience is what is important.

Repenting to Jesus is just like genuine repentance between humans. I think most English-speaking people are more familiar with the word "remorse" - so in essence if you have genuine remorse for something you did, then you own up to what you did, apologize and try your best not to do it again.

1. Jane realizes that she was a total butthead to her coworkers yesterday.
2. Jane admits this to her coworkers and asks for their forgiveness.
3. Going forward Jane does her best not to be a butthead anymore.

1. Jane is a sinner and has committed many sins.
2. Jane admits this to Jesus and asks Him to forgive her.
3. Going forward Jane does her best not to sin anymore.

There is no sin which is unforgivable.

For every problem, there's a remedy. Firstly, calm down and pray...

I think the original poster has received a lot of good answers here. The common theme is that it is simple to be saved, no sin is too great, go to Christ in prayer, repent of all your sins ( even the homosexual acts), ask to be forgiven.

However, to say you cannot be sure that you are saved.... I have to say that is wrong. To say that in order to have eternal life we must be righteous... that is wrong too.

Romans 3:9-10

No One Is Righteous
9 What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. 10 As it is written:

“There is no one righteous, not even one;

He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy (Titus 3:5a).

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

As for being sure.....

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:11-13).

It is a foundational peace that we can know we are saved and that we don't have to be righteous to have eternal life. It is Christ's righteousness that saves us.

Acts 3:19
19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out...

Repentance is a turning away from sin to a life centered upon and submitted to God. Conversion is being changed from the inside out by God's Spirit in response to your trusting in Christ to save you from your sins and your surrender to him as your Lord.

I have committed homosexual actions and have not repented, this is my biggest worry.

And you should worry:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

Don't confuse repentance with confession. They aren't the same thing, though they are related. Confession precedes repentance. Confession is agreeing with God that your sin was in fact sin and a grave offense committed against Him. Repentance is determining, by God's grace, never again to commit the sin which you have confessed. Any confession made without repentance is not a genuine confession. It is not enough simply to admit you have done wrong. God commands you also to turn away from that sin toward a holy, pure life. Will you?

Selah.

Only our Lord Jesus can save you from any sin you might have committed. Repent with your whole heart, confess your sins and ask for His forgiveness and grace to follow Him with all your heart. Be more committed with church activities, read and practice your bible and pray without ceasing. Nothing is too hard for the Almighty God to do.

Wrong. Your claim that God refuses Grace to certain sinners and not others and instead bases His Grace on 'works' is heresy.

JACKSBRATT said: "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life...I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:11-13)."

Right, and so what does the Son say? Jesus says that we must take up our cross and follow him. This is easily interpreted as emulating him. Emulating the one who lead a sinless life, that is.

---

JACKSBRATT said: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9)."

Ultimately, only God can decide to grant His grace upon anyone. Would He favor the one who follows the commandments as best as they can or would His favor rest upon the one who was lukewarm in their resolve to be like Jesus? This answer should be obvious. As evidence I tender this scripture below-

Luke 18:9-14 states the parable of the pharisee and the tax collector

You believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross and shed His blood for your sins. Then ask Him to forgive you your sins, because you want to be His Child and become a new creation that He makes us into.

Be confident in what God says in His Word.

If you are sincere in your prayer and that you have faith in God, you will become His Child.

That is what faith is, that you believe in God and that His promises are true.

Then just devote a small amount of time to prayer and Bible reading. Start slow, like 10 minutes; 5 minutes of prayer and 5 minutes of the Bible. Try to do it at the same time each day so it becomes something you schedule in your day and not something you just hope to find time for.

Have faith.

Be blessed.
