I play on Draenor. Mainly Horde, though I do have a couple of baby Alliance toons on there too. When I feel like RP, I go to Feathermoon. My playtime has dropped off quite a bit lately though since I got KOTOR 2 and Neverwinter Nights Gold.

I play it. My favorite game right now.

My main is horde on Azgalor, a level 50 troll shaman. Kinda taking a break off him right now and playing some of my lowbie characters (20 orc warrior, 19 gnome mage). I play alliance on Bronzebeard, which is PvE, to get away from the PvP environment of Azgalor. Getting ganked (that's slang for being mercilessly slaughtered when you have no chance of winning) gets really old and doing it doesn't appeal to me. Almost makes me wish I played on PvE in the first place, but all my friends went PvP and I didn't know ganking would be as common as it is. And, of course, I'm not about to throw away a level 50 character. Too bad Blizzard scrapped the dishonor system.

I know the feeling. I'm just glad I concentrated on my PvE characters to start while waiting for them to get PvP worked out. Without the dishonor system, PvP is pretty much a no go for me. Are there any safe zones for lowbies to hunt on PvP servers or can a high lvl come to Valley of Trials and just wipe all the lvl 5's?

Well, actually, there are. There are horde territories, there are alliance territories, and there are contested territories. In horde territories, the alliance cannot attack the horde players unless they attack first or turn their PvP flag on, and vice versa for the alliance territories. In contested territories, there are no rules; anyone can attack anyone. Horde territories include Mulgore, Durotar, Barrens, Tiristfal Glades, and Silverpine Forest. Alliance territories include Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, Teldrassil, and Darkshore.

You only spend the first 20 levels in your home territories though, and after that you start moving into contested territories to never look back.

The alliance, however, have the redridge mountains, duskwood, and wetlands for level 20-30, which although are contested, are very out of the way of the horde, so the alliance can pretty much safely quest there. Whenever I do a /who in one of those areas, there are at the most three horde players, probably people moving through them to get to somewhere else. The horde, on the other hand, is stuck with Ashenvale, Hillsbrad, and Stonetalon in their 20s, and these territories are a non-stop gankfest because they are easily accessible to both the alliance and the horde. If a high level dude is going to gank, he usually do it in one of these areas, because they are easy to get to and they are full of lowbies. Needless to say, the alliance has it relatively easy from 20-30. So if you play alliance on a PvP server, it isn't too bad until level 30.

And then in the mid 30s, there is Stranglethorn Vale, the most horrible place in the game as far as ganking goes. There are alternatives for both sides, but STV is the most rich with quests.

After level 40, the ganking gets much better, but it's still there. Level 60s aren't going to go around ganking level 40s when they can go oneshot hundreds of level 20s instead, and people your own level usually don't mess with you because they don't want to make enemies when they are trying to get quests done.

I don't think Blizzard will do anything about the ganking any time soon. They scrapped the dishonor system for who knows what reason and show no intention of implimenting a gank-prevention system. So you might want to just stick with the PvE server.

Bummer. :(

I was really looking forward to a different PvP system. Guess DAoC still has the best treatment of PvP so far that I'm aware of. I'm starting to get an itch to fire up my necro again anyway so I might take a break from WoW next month and drop into Albion for a while.

Of course necros are the worst possible choice for RvR (though they are PvE gods) so I guess I should lvl another toon. Heck, I might even pick up ToA and Catecombs and just let WoW slide for a while.

the ganking isn't so bad, i've played both horde and alliance on diff pvp servers up to about lvl 30-35. Horde has it a lot worse, so if you want it easier, go alliance. Alliance has a population advantage and their 20's territories are much safer- Wetlands, Redridge and Duskwood are pretty safe. Even so, I've been questing in Ashenvale with my alliance (the horde come there at higher lvls so its tough for alliance) and its not so bad. Stonetalon Mts are very bad for alliance though, never anyone to help you and always a bunch of horde running around questing in the same areas.

I love PvP when it's done right. DAoC is the only decent PvP I've ever found. The gank-fests on UO, EQ, WoW just aren't fun to me. I understand some people like playing that way; I don't. It's the huge, epic battles and siege warfare that make RvR so great on DAoC. It's the getting one-shotted by a lvl 60 while trying to do a quest then having your corpse camped that really ruins the whole experience for me.

Thanks forgiven. As for not liking it, I believe that's a matter of my choice. To each his own.

Exactly.

lol That's like my friend calling me to complain that someone ganked him then camped his corpse for an hour. I just laugh at him and say, "Yeah, the joys of PvP." :D

Mongoose - sop if someone like myself realyl doesnt care for PVP then there are servers where that is not allowed? Also exactly how much does this game cost to get started? I play ragnarok but am interested in at least seeign this game work. Any suggestions?

Yep, there are servers in which PvP is 100% consensual.

Like any new computer game, it costs $50 USD to buy, and then $15 a month (other than the free month you get with the game).

the ganking isn't so bad, i've played both horde and alliance on diff pvp servers up to about lvl 30-35. Horde has it a lot worse, so if you want it easier, go alliance. Alliance has a population advantage and their 20's territories are much safer- Wetlands, Redridge and Duskwood are pretty safe. Stonetalon Mts are very bad for alliance though, never anyone to help you and always a bunch of horde running around questing in the same areas.

Well, I think that all depends on the server you're on. If you play on Azgalor or Bleeding Hollow, which have pretty high populations, the ganking is really bad. On my server, if you're horde and in your 20s, you can barely step out of Tarren Mill without encountering a high level alliance player looking to gank.

And granted, I got the game when it first came out, and back then ganking was hardly an issue because there weren't so many high level players. Now that the game has been out, there is a really substantial amount of high level characters. So I have trouble with my horde alts, and the ganking gets really aggrivating. And I always get tells from friends to help them kill the dudes CCing them.

How come you guys don't like PvP? That's the whole reason I bought the game. Quests and stuff are fun, but I can't wait until I get into huge epic battles with real people.

Oh I love PvP. If I didn't I wouldn't have origionally rolled on the PvP server. But I hate ganking. I don't like doing it, and I don't like having it done to me. When I started on the PvP server, I didn't think ganking would be as much of an issue as it is. So now, when I start a new character, I put it on a PvE server. When the ganking issue is fixed, I'll probably move back to the PvP server.

And really, PvP on the PvE server is pretty good too. There are still raids that go on and such, and there will be battlegrounds. So really, the main thing you're giving up by moving to the PvE server is ganking (and a few other aspects, of course, but ganking is the big one). There's still PvP, it's just consensual. In fact, it isn't actually called a PvE server, but rather the "Normal" server. Needless to say though, if you like to gank, the PvE server isn't for you.
