Fantastic, I should have joined these forums aaages ago. I read all your responses and agree thouroghly with everyone that had backing with scripture AND EVEN SOME WITHOUT! I have been a warcraft player for around 1 year and three months now and I have to admit that I have a problem regarding the amount of time I play the game. It is a very addictive game so any persons wary of actually buying it should read this whole thread, it has helped me out a lot.

I realise that the game is fictional and the magic in it is merely effects but if your parent(s) have a problem with you playing the game then you should honor thier wishes. If playing the game is a stumbling block for you (which has been one of my problems, playing it more often than not) and you have an addictive personality then I suggest steering well clear of the game. However if you pray on the subject, no matter how silly it may seem to pray about a mere computer game The Holy Spirit responds with peace. Never discomfort. Pray on the matter, asking for God's wisdom on the subject and he will let you know.

Remember to seek the wisdom of your Christian peers as well if you can't get a clear answer from The Spirit. Perhaps speak to your church elders or a few wise fellow youths who have been brought up in the faith.

I myself have been praying on the matter, asking God to give me a discerning spirit to let me know when enough is enough. So far its helped. Also giving yourself an agreed upon set amount of time per day will avoid any family disputes regarding length of time on the game or computer in general.

Also, one other small thing: I have an undead Warlock, and I will admit before I played them I was very wary of even speaking to other players of that particular class. However, I decided to give it a try and it turns out that its the only level 60 I have. Don't worry so much about a fictional class, It's merely graphics. However if you feel uneasy about playing the game for its unnatural setting and the warlocks being "demonic" then it's probably the spirit letting you know that this game isn't for you.

I'd also like to hear from anyone whos had a hard time dealing with time on the game, and how you personally overcame it. It would help me to better myself as a follower of Christ to hear from the points of view of people who have had a better balance while playing.

Thanks.

I just have to give you this advice: as a fellow teen, sometimes you just have to accept the fact that your parents will not and never will listen to your opinion on certain things, just like you would never listen to their opinions on certain things.

No offence, but your dad is really full of it. If you insisit on arguing with him, then lie to him about what the game is about.
For example...
"This game involves a world that is being torn apart by a war against the forces of Satan. You must use the powers of Jesus to stop them by praying ot Him for special heavenly powers to smite the demons and send them back to Hell." Then show him your holy-looking Priest or Paladin type character.

Also, games can help strengthen your faith. The whole entire reason I got more into my faith was because of the video game "Morrowind" that had a ton of cool Christian allegories that made my faith seem exciting and I still imagine God as looking like Vivec and the Blessed Virgin as Almalexia.

Lying is not the way to go....
Can't believe someone actually suggested that. Although I do agree on one thing he said, your dad's full of it :D But he's just sticking to what he feels is right. Unfortunately, extremely conservative Christians are also beyond stubborn. You're dad's set in his ways, and nothing's going to change that, even Biblical proof.

And when you get older you may realize that this is not always a bad thing. When I was young I thought I knew it all, yes sometimes my parents were wrong (they were not Christians but I was) but it took years of accumulating wisdom that showed me that in many cases they were right. To have Christian parents must be awesome, don’t count them as being “full of it” or one day you may regret this terribly. Being in such a situation with great parents who actually care about your spiritual life you should consider blessed and lucky, theBrad. Oh yeah, WoW is not a Christian game, that would be a lie. Give your parents a reason not to trust you and it may be some time and hard work before you ever regain that trust.

This is why I'm glad my mum never cared. She said if I was in anyway possed, influenced or followed anything from a video game it would be my own fault and she would be ashamed that I had no common sence.

But still don't lie to you're parents, not wise. We have al ldone it I'm sure but still, its the wrong road.

hello all, I have recently accepted Christ into my my life about 2 months ago. I have been living with a Christian family for about 4 months, and before I became saved I was an atheist, now on the subject of World Of warcraft and other games, I find that my father does not approve of this game at all, so I am asking, should I as a Christian who wants to stay in the light, be playing world of wacraft?

He does not approve of this game because----

it has magic in it
it has demons in it.
there are names that sound demonic.
you can play as a warlock.
he believes games have a spiritual side to them and that Satan will corrupt people in any form he can and what would stop him from coming through as something as "its just a game"
he says he sees nothing but evil and darkness coming from the game and to stay away.
He asks "where does that magic those characters are using come from? it sure isn't coming from god.
he saw the night elf on the main world of wacraft site and wondered why she hardly had anything on.
The word "warcraft" sounds like "witchcraft"

This applies to all games that have magic in any form present in the game, thus making the game evil and should not be played.

As I have said I'm just a baby in Christ, I have been playing this game since around December 04 and now I find myself being unable to play this game at all as long as I live in his house. I've never practiced witchcraft in real life and I don't necessarily see myself corrupted from this game, and I've never been addicted to the game(he says people are addicted to this game because Satan has gotten a foothold on them through this game) everything I say to him in regards to defending the game is rejected and I'm told "I'm just saying all this because I want to play the game and I do not want to see the truth" .

So, is what he says correct and that I should not play this game? I'm struggling with this, when I was a non-Christian I had no limits other than what my own interpretation of right and wrong were, and for this game I don't believe it to be evil. but now that I'm Christian, I want to do what is right in god's eyes.

Though I do not have personal experience in playing World of Warcraft, I have played other games. Let me begin by saying that whatever you play (whether it be a war game or a mystery game or whatever) WILL have an effect on you (if ever so slightly). Since you are a new Christian and are attempting to gain a strong footing in God, I woul advise not playing the game if you feel that you must ask the question. Understand that the game is simply entertainment (The only reason I would consider it evil is because of the monthly fees, grr....) and you are not sinning in playing a game. However, if you began believing in the game more than you believed in reality and began trying to summon demons, the dead, conjur magic, ext., THAT would be sin.

Like I said, since you are a relatively young Christian, I would advise staying away from something that YOU think would hurt you (as in, if you think playing the game would interfere with your relationship with God, i.e. interfering with praying, seeking God, going to church, chatting with Christians friends, etc.).

As for your father: Listen, just remember that it asking about World of Warcraft, your father is just showing that he cares for you (and in the best way, too: He's trying to help watch over your new-found salvation!). Though he won't always be right, ALWAYS ALWAYS heed the advice and warnings of your parents. They just want what's best for you because you're their son. If this alone doesn't convince you, look in the Bible or ask your pastor about verses in the Bible where it tells you to obey your parents and what comes of it. Colossians 3:20 is a good place to start!
Hope you make the right decision, God Bless you in your maturing faith, and may He grant you your wish to be close to him.

Quite right SfC...
Although, I wouldn't advise him not to play it. He has to make that decision, assuming his dad would be ok with it, based on if he feels it would control his life :D

Well, yeah. I mean, if your dad says not to play it, then don't. However, if I was in your position...then I would probably devote more of my time to attending available churches, attending a/some local bible studies or seeing if you can organize some. I don't know, that's just me. Like I said, it's your choice, Primebuster.

Again, it's not like you can't do that and still play WoW :|
