  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello :)

Since we have all these great threads here that are geared toward certain groups of people, I thought I'd start one for Work At Home Moms.

Are there other WAHM's on the board formerly known as CF? What do you do? What are some of the challenges you've encountered balancing family and work life?

I know this thread is old but it was started around the time I first joined this forum. I'm hoping by bumping it, we can get some wahm chit chat going on.

I have been blessed to work from home for the last 2 years. I recently lost my job in January and have been looking for another long term project. I'm currently working a temporary project with ETS scoring essays from home.

I could definitely use the fellowship and to learn how others deal with the need to work and parent simulateneously (NOT an easy feat...lol)

Are you able to bring your child with you to the outside work?

The job that's only a couple hours a week, yes :) I only go in for 45 minutes to an hour, or however long he'll tolerate it. To the other job, no. I schedule it so my husband can watch the baby.

That is pretty cool. I wish that we had more jobs that allowed one to bring their children along. That is how children learned in years past. Children were not isolated from what their parents did all day, they watched and learned and saw their parents work. It was natural for the child to internalize this.

I don't work from home, but would love to.
I work per diem during the school yr, and right now I am not getting as many hours as would be good for my budget. Then in the summer I won't work (at least outside the home) more then a day a week, tops. I'd love to supplement that from home.

So tell me: Where's the jobs?
Please and ty

I'm a work at home mom.

I work for a British magazine and website doing all sorts of admin type stuff (eg: uploading the magazine articles and pictures onto the website, answering subscribers queries, setting up usernames and passwords for the website etc.etc.).

I love the work I do, but it is very time-consuming and I find there is definitely a down-side to working from home. I just can't seem to escape work. I have way too much work to do so I end up working in the evenings and on weekends.

The plus side is that I get to be home with my 2 year old, which was the most important thing for me. I wouldn't trade it for working outside of our home for anything, even though it's hard work balancing everything.

I ideally would love to be self-employed and able to work from home. That way I can work as much or little as I want.

Jilly, I couldn't even have considered doing any work that required phone time until fairly recently with my son. How do you do it?

So, my old employer who let me go in January called me yesterday and left a message wanting to know "what I'm up to these days." If he asks me to begin working for him again (there was quite a bit of drama towards the end of my time with him) I'm going to demand more money and to do all my week's work in 4 days instead of 5. We'll see if he still wants to see "what I'm up to" after that...lol

I miss wearing professional outfits to work and the adult socialization a bit. But the benefit of working from home and raising my child far outweighs what I miss from out the home work. That's why I come here to get some sort of adult stimulation. CF is my watercooler time...lol

(quitespirit and Assisi, I PM'd you)

LOL, I don't!! I only deal with email queries. I told my boss when I first started working that there is no way I would be able to phone. Only my email address is on the website, so that's the only way people can get hold of me. Thankfully, other than that I don't have much contact with people, it's mostly just administration stuff. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing?

CF is also my water cooler time, although I really shouldn't be on here, I have loads of work to do

I'm a WAHM as well. I am an Administrative Assistant to a PR firm. The entire "company" works from their homes - it's wonderful. I LOVE the internet, it makes it possible for us to do things like...well..work form home! lol Anyway, I mostly do stuff like Internet research, take notes on conference calls, send out press releases, track publication, transcription. I'm sort of a jack of all trades. But honestly..I get paid a set amount each month, and I do very little work. I am so very blessed - my employers really like the work that I do for them, but I honestly feel like they are paying me to take care of my own children. God is wonderful! :)

I do miss GOING to work sometimes. And there are moments when I just need a break. I have 3 kids - Elijah's 4, Azalyah's 3, and Abigail is 1...and some days my head is spinning. But 90% of the time, I LOVE LOVE LOVE what I do. :)
