Have you moved in these gifts? How did you start, someone lay hands on you or just come? How did you know it was the Spirit speaking to you at first?
Yes I've moved in the word of knowledge and prophecy of varying kinds.. especially when I went through a season of zealous evangelism on the streets.
It was shortly after I was baptized in fire and the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues.
When I was baptized in the Holy Spirit the Lord spoke to me in a dream and in visions/spiritual experiences.
After that I devoured the Word of God very excitedly and the Lord revealed things to me in His Word and began to give me revelation.. there was an immense spiritual download at the time of my baptism.
Through the given knowledge in the Logos (Word of God) .. this is how I came to know the voice of the Holy Spirit intimately through relationship.
Some of it came at once but words of knowledge took me stepping out in faith many times.
The spiritual gifts are no different from a muscle (in the physical sense).
If you keep using them frequently, they grow stronger and in the case of words of knowledge.. more accurate and powerful.
It's also easier to tune in to the leading of the Holy Spirit with the word of knowledge because as a believer steps out in faith (obedience), the leading of the Holy Spirit becomes more apparent and easier to recognize.
I will give a parable to explain this process I'm talking about.
It's revelation found in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30)
If you notice, the master (God) gave the servants (believers) talents (spiritual deposit/a measure of faith) but only 2 of them used what they had been given.. since they were faithful with the little, they were given more.
But the one servant who had been given 1 talent buried it in the ground and when the master (God) came to see what had happened to His investment (Christ's sacrifice).. He took away the 1 talent given to the servant who buried it and gave it to the one who produce 5 additional talents.
With any spiritual gift.. it is summed up here.
'29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.'
(Matthew 25:29)
This was learned through experiential knowledge.. of course the Holy Spirit will more heavily anoint believers in different areas (as He wills - 1 Corinthians 12:11).
Generally, every believer can dip some into any spiritual gift but this requires active obedience and faith in the spiritual gifts just to start.
Unfortunately, cessationism has done much to quench the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit.
I guess I should mention, I have had hands laid on me but I don't believe that added much.. it was mainly that God had called me to a specific purpose and equipped me to fulfill the work He had called me to do.
