praising God is a heart issue. Christian liberty is easily summed up in this, if it causes your brother to stumble, be rid of it in your life. I don't see anything wrong with rhythms in praise music myself. I belive that part is subjective while the heart is God's territory. I've think many younger people should try and sing some of the old fashioned hymns. They are glorious and wonderful to sing in praise to God. I also love the contemporary chorus' sung in some churches today. Once again, it lifts the Spirit to God in confession of His Holiness and illuminates the Spirit in me when i'm praising. Regarding "church' services, there always needs to be order and a centering on Christ.

There are a couple of issues you raise:
1. Can the individual praise God through modern music
2. Should modern music be used in church service.

Your last line, 'luring' people to God. This is not done through music in my humble opinion but through our own actions in response to God. The Holy Spirit woos, our life is to be lived Holy in testament to God's wonderfulness.

Love to hear other opinions here and I will be looking for some scripture to post later.

God is cool and the worship music should be too. its a new way of speaking and reaching to a load of younger people. if i'm out and about, or just messing at home i would rather listen to something more modern then what i would want to sing in a church.. dunno. just my thoughts. a lot of groups... jars of clay, lincoln brewster, POD, project 86, newsboys, relient k are really cool and their songs have a message in them that points to Christianity.

hehe.. yah, ur old fashioned about the music, but what gets me is hearing "my Daddy in Heaven" now that to me makes me stiffen!!! LOL...

I don't think it is for me to tell others how they should praise God. There are beautiful older hymns and beautiful newer ones, there are also some that arn't that good also. I ask myself whether styles of music have changed since the Bible was written and I would surely think so. I think that God is pleased to hear His children's praise if it is sung from the heart and glorifying Him.

Music varies from culture to culture and Jesus would accept people as they were and shouldn't we do the same? We may not enjoy the music of today's youth but that is their culture let them praise God with it  we want to attract them to God not frighten them away.

I lead the praise and worship part of our church services, and I mix the music up....contemporary P & W, some Southern Gospel, and good old fashioned hymns.  It works out nicely.  The older members are beginning to learn the contemporary songs and are quite happy with them.

I like the contemporary songs that, even though they have the "rock n roll" beat, you can get the message they are trying to convey.

If the young people like the music simply because of the beat or the style, they're missing something.  They should get the message of the song, too.

I love Celebrate Jesus and Ancient of Days. I used to be a member of the praise team, and my husband played the drums, my son the bass. And Marsha rocked out on the piano. I would do the early service at the big church, then the Contemporary at the fellowship hall.

The new chorus and contempory music is awesome and all of its based on words directly out of scripture...

Example:

As the deer panteth for the water, so my soul longeth after thee...

I love that one too

did you folks know that hymns as we know them did not become popular until the mid-late 1700 s. Until then no istruments were aloowed in most churches and the singing was chanting of the pslams. Of course most people couldn t read back then so it was hard for them to learn new things. and some instruments hadn t been invented yet in the form we know them today. strings and wind instruments were considered tools of the devil in some places.

No, I didn't and thank you for posting that.

What you have stated here gives support to the ever changing methods of worshipping God, in this case music.  I'm glad I didn't live in such a "Dark Era".

I think in Psalms somewhere there is a verse that says "sing a new song unto the Lord."

Psalm 33:3 (KJV) Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise.

(NKJ) Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy.

(Amplified) Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully [on the strings] with a loud and joyful sound.

Praise comes from your heart. Not from the styles of music out there. If you want to priase God with a good new pop rythm, go nuts! :) If you want to priase God with a nice slow, steady pace, by all means go ahead. Because priase and worship don't come from music.

Some music talk about God and Jesus and not nessesarily praise or worship him but it comes down to your heart, not your head. :)

Yea, Sharkey I agree with that. You put it so well.

  Praise should come from your heart and not your head.

It's getting the people in churches to compromise with one another to the styles of music used as part of our praise and worship to God that seems to be a problem.

(There may some exceptions of course.)
