Hello,

I am a Lutheran and I was wondering what restrictions some people were talking about. I noticed that in other threads so I was wondering why some were wondering about it?

I guess I'm not clear on what people are saying when they ask about women restictions.

Okay I knew that and the voting thing but from what I was seeing, some made it sound like there was a list of rules we had to follow and it didn't make any sense. Made me wonder.

Thanks and I'm part of the WELS by the way. In case you were wondering :).

1 Timothy 2:12, 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.

This verse is often used to explain why we do not ordain women and why some do not allow women to vote. People hearing this then think we have lots of restrictions on women. That women are not allowed to do much.

I think we all know how much women do in our church.

I don't like the use of the word restrictions in this area. My wife used to say that women aren't restricted. They have a very important role to play. If a woman wants to go off and do something outside that role, fine. Still, she is not answering her higher calling.

The Lord created us for two distinct and different roles. Each of us has one-half of an equation to fulfill. I can't nurse children (naturally). The Lord hasn't blessed me with the equipment. I also can't bear them. At the same token the Lord has equipped me to assist in their upbringing. In fact, he strongly charges me with a central role in this. Still, I can never fill my wife's shoes as mother. It has been tremendously difficult to cope without her.

Likewise in the church, the Lord has established a leadership role for men and a more practical role for the women. As broken human beings we have corrupted these roles and the whole system as well. Still, to quote Martin Luther, "Don't let's throw the baby out with the bath water."

It is my prayer that our (LCMS) synodical leadership changes to the point where we can once again enter into dialogue with the Wisconsin Synod and the ELS. Our current president invited the leaders of both synods to meet with him and he was rejected from both. (Not at all surprising considering the state of the LCMS right now. :sigh: )

Because of this we are stuck with dealing with the ELCA, whom the LCMS does not officially recognize as an orthodox Lutheran church body.

We are on the verge of fellowship with the AALC.
But I would like to work closer with or confessional brethren in the WELS and ELS also.

:)

Luthernut, to what are you referring?

I've been somewhat out of touch of late. Well, for three years, since I became the hermit of Lewiston (LOL). But seriously, what is wrong? There were no serious problems with the church when I moved. Have things taken a turn for the worse?

I am assuming that you know why your president was refused? We recently had a study on this in bible class. I wished it could work out too. You probably also know that WELS was refused fellowship with another conservative Lutheran church body back in the 90's because of our relationship with LCMS?

I think it was the LCC, perhaps? (or is there a CLC?) A friend told me they thought we didn't stop fellowship with the LCMS 'soon' enough. But was that in the 90's?

Sorry to try and answer for you Jim...please correct me if I'm wrong.

What I'd like to know, is what's going on with LCMS? Please tell me the same group of wackos that messed up ELCA haven't gotten their hooks into LCMS.

Please don't make the assumption that I know why our President was refused. Because I don't. What's going on?
