Did you read the comments to the blog?

So, a woman can't teach a man in such a way that she would have authority over the man, but it's ok for a man to listen to a recording of a woman teaching other women, and get something out of it? What kind of logic is that?

It is the logic of legalism. *sighs* Once you put in place rules like that, you have to redefine the edges over and over as new situations and cases come to light. It's why law libraries have so many volumes of case law and commentary.

It's very logical. She's not taking authority over the man and forcing him to listen to anything. He just happens to listen to her recording and God's Word deepened his wisdom, there's nothing wrong with that.

Tomorrow I become a member of a congregation that recently asked the women to step aside from voting at voters meetings.

The women unanimously agreed to do it.

The relationship that the women have in this church to the men is one that I found to be the healthiest I have ever seen. It is like a healthy marriage.

No one there votes on doctrine. Not men, not women. The doctrines this congregation holds to is found in the Unaltered Augsburg Confession. If the pastor is found to deviate from it, they go to those who hold him in check (www.eldona.org or com, I can't remember).

The congregation will be painting and doing a lot of things in the coming weeks. The men do the final vote to paint, scrap, purchase etc. The women pick out the paint or what styles of items they want purchased.

They work together.

As for teaching. The women teach children and other women and the pastor teaches the teens, preteens and adults.

The way this church sees it, the pastor was called to teach the sheep. And that is what he does. He teaches the doctrines of the church.

I found this refreshing and very biblically based.

With that said, I just have not ever seen where it is necessary for women to step in take over teaching the doctrines of the church to others. Pastors were put in charge of the doctrines, not the laity.
