  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

we have a wireless network set up in my house. 3 computers. (1 pc in the basement, another up on the bedroom level and a laptop all connected.) what i'm wondering is, are any possible health risks from this setup? it is wireless so i'm just making sure. also, the pc's are always on so the network is always on. the laptop is only sometimes turned on.

I don't think anything has been proven about this issue concerning networking but i have to make sure.

well, it's all radio waves, if the radio was harmful or your cordless phone were I'd worry, but they aren't.....now again cell phones are suposta be dangerous to our health because of something they omit, but we talk on them all the time and don 't worry about that.... *shrugs*....I think the most u have to worry about is making sure no one else can get into your wireless network, that's why I refuse to go wireless on my network.......

LOL, the only people hacking wireless are people who have the time to build an antnee and drive around looking for them.

In most cases its just a few nerds or geeks stilling free highspeed acess at local hotspots, ie: STARBUCKS coffee shops that now all offer bluetooth enabled highspeed wireless internet.

I setup a wireless connection to our current wired connection when I got my new laptop here so I could sit around my house.

Interesting thing I discovered is the school behind my house has a wireless access point becuase it shows up as VBPS_LES with a 128kb encryption. Was easy for me to access it, but then again I was a hacker and am still barred from AOL until 2007.

Virginia Beach Public Schools Lynnhaven Elemtary school

I could of saved my money on the wireless router and just got the card and tapped their's lol. But then I wouldn't be a part of network.

Could connect to one of thier printers and start printing porn.... lol. Oh thats so wrong, forgive me lord.

Doofus just shakes his head and laughs like he did yesterday when this 17 yr old kid get a mt dew out of the cooler at best buy after being in line for an hour and then he drank it and left the bottle laying on a shelf without paying for it...... :D

I had a problem with accessing my neighbors and them accessing my connection so I had to get rid of the wireless, plus it was just to slow for me.....it's not like I didn't already have the conduit run in the wall already, I just had to run the wires up through it :)

We are running a 802.11g network, 55mbs works fine and dandy to push my t1 to my notebook.

Everything else is hardwire, but my notebook and my room mates are wireless.

However our desktops are hard wired.

100mps isn't fast enough for me, I'm actually thinking of upgrading to 1000mps.......I know that my cable internet connection won't improve much, but mostly it's my internal network that I need the speed with for transfering files and doing backups......I already have the cat6 cable in place, it's just a matter of upgrading my hardware and moving my phone connection to another cable (I'm running my phones on the same line as my network)......

Why are your phones on the same line? We have a giga-lan setup here, all of our computers have giga-lan cards in them now, but the routers are still really expensive.

When the price comes down we will convert Becuase of the company I work for I get all my cabling for free. I have my own crimpling tools, you name it I can make it.

I'm running a wireless network and I don't have any cancerous growths yet ;)

As for security .... I know my neighbors and none of them would be able to figure it out anyway ... LOL. A friend of mine leached bandwidth off one of her neighbors for awhile. They guy found out and didn't mind. Cool neighbor ..lol

Anyhow, my computer is hardwired and my roomie runs his desktop and laptop wireless. So far, so good and we are both still healthy. :D

The 100mbps network only requires 2 pairs (4 wires) out of the 4 pair (8 wires) so I used 2 of the extra one's to run my phones upstairs instead of spending the extra time and money at the time to run another phone line.....at least it's all in conduit and I just have to run it up through that......I didn't figure I'd be upgrading my network so soon, otherwise I would have just run more wire :)
