  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Every step was a strain; the floors of staircases seemed to be never ending. Leo was exhausted from along day of work and slowly limped up the six stories of staircases. Finally reaching the sixth floor, Leo walked down the empty hall, his foot steps echoing off the walls. When finally reacing the desired door, Leo pulled his keys out of his deep pocket and entered his apartment. The aparment wasn't much; a small kitchen, bathroom, one bed room and a pull out sofa bed. Leo dropped his keys on the kitchen table, plopped onto the couch, and closed his eyes. "Long day at work?"
one of leo's eyes peeked open. Sly was sitting on the couch beside him awaiting an answer. "Yea, i guess. working in the garage wouldn't be such a strain if they fixed the airconditioning system. I told them I'd take a look at it, but thy keep saying they're going to call the guy, but they been saying that for a while now." Leo let out a big sigh and closed his eyes again. "So how was your day Sly?"
"Well, i found these in your closet." Leo made a face as he opened his eyes yet again to see what Sly was reffering to. Sly was holding up an old superman comic book. "Oh, wow, i forgot about those things. My mom got them for me to keep be buswhen i was a kid." Leo took a coser look at the comic book. "Be careful with that thing, it ancient; probably a classic by now." Sly sat back in the couch and continued to read. Leo lounged back on the couch too, and closed his eyes yet again. Only a few seconds passed, then "you smell" Sly said without even looking up from his book. "i suppose i should get a shower before dinner." Leo moaned. Then Leo opened his eyes for the final side and stood to leave the room. As Leo passed the kitchen he noticed an empty sink in the kitchen. "Sly, you did the dishes. Thanks man."
"I really like these comics" Then Leo left to get his shower.

The young girl examined him curiously as she cautiously took a few steps toward him, "Why are you here?" Her voice had deepened to a more human sound but still had an eerie edge to it.

"Elana..." Jazen breathed out worriedly, he knew he couldn't protect her from this agent, especially since he was between them.

"Don't move." One of the crystals in Zeve's gauntlet began to glow as the thing stepped closer, but his face remained blank. His finger had the triger pressed to less than a hai's width of firing. "I could ask the same of you. Do you watch the news?"

His wrist-com crackled, but of necessity he ignored it.

“No, you’re much too advanced for that.” The man with the gun said. “You can already use your powers. You’re probably one of those “dangerous” ones that are able to hide their wings.”

A quick look at the boy’s reaction and Lex’s suspicion was confirmed. The boy was a Bearer of Wings and the man with he gun was an Agent.

“I have wings?” Lex asked, warily. “Now that’s interesting. What makes you think so?”

The Agent only smirked an glanced back at the boy. “Bet you didn’t realize you weren’t alone did ya kid?” he mocked. “There’s a whole lot of freaks like you out there. And it’s my job to bring them in.”

The Agent turned back to face Lex, but only for a fraction of a second.

“Not my son!”

Before anyone could stop him, the boy’s father lunged.

Boom!

A thunderclap rocked the air.

A body fell.

A scream was heard.

Adrenaline shot through Lex’s veins.

He seized this unfortunate moment. In a flash, the hilt of his dagger was in his hand, which was already completing it’s descent upon the Agent’s outstretched wrist.

“Enough!” Lex bellowed; now holding the pressing the point of the blade to the Agent’s hroat. “Leave the innocents! I don't wan't o have to kill you."

((Donkey, tell me if anything needs changed.))

Zeve relaxed a little. Innocents then. "Someone is being held for ransom here," he told her. "Better get out, whatever you are." He didn't lower the gun, though. How could he be sure they wouldn't intervene once he let them go?

"What's your name?" he asked the man.

Jakob dropped the gun as the bearer slashed his blade across his wrist and then held the blade at his throat, “Enough! Leave the innocents! I don’t want to have to kill you.” The bearer said to him. Jakob held his wrist, blood dripped between his fingers. He started laughing, “You think you have the guts to kill me? Go ahead, push the blade into my neck. Kill me now. You may not get the chance later.”
--------------------------------------------
“Dad no!” Paul tried to yell, but nothing came out of his mouth. “Victor!” Paul's mom yelled. She ran to him. Paul tried to move his legs, but they felt like they were nailed to the ground.
-----------------------------------------
Jakob glanced back and saw the bearer’s mom kneeling beside the dead dad. He saw his chance and looked back at the bearer with the blade, “Too late.” he whispered. He delivered a quick kick to the bearer’s gut then ran and grabbed the mom, pulling out one of his throwing knives at the same time. He put the mom between him and the advanced bearer, ignoring the other bearer behind him. “Now, why don’t we all just take a breather and talk this out like adults.” He said to the other bearer.

The girl's eyes dimmed back to a rich brown and she stood in a more relaxed position, "Ela-..."

Jazen cleared his throat to interrupt her and slowly moved around next to his sister, hands raised in front of him so as not to alarm the agent.

"Oh...umm, we're just civilians." Elana smiled unsurely, "Who are you?"

Zeve turned slowly as the man moved around him, then relaxed more now that he had them both on one side. His wrist-com crackled again. "Agent Lance, of the Enforcers." Appraisingly he examined the girl. "You're one of them. Well, my guys aren't paid to hunt your kind."

Almost too fast to follow, he flipped the Glock to his left hand, caught it, and slid it into its bolster. "But as I said, you'd better leave. I've got a job to finish here."

Jazen nods, relief seeping over him, "We will, thank you. Come on, El." He reaches a tanned arm around her shoulders and starts to lead her out of the room.

Elana slips out of Jazen's arm and gives the agent a bright smile, "Do you need any help?"

"No." Zeve turned away, then glanced back. "Not all of my guys have the same ideas of what 'Agent' connotates. Who knows, one of them might leave and become a hunter. Or someone might actually know you." The last sentence was said with a knowing smirk and a look to the wrist-com strapped to the man's arm. Without another word, Zeve walked back into the maze of crates.

He had seen it coming. He blocked the kick and tried to counter, but the Agent was already running. He made to follow but stopped when he saw that the Agent had knives in his hands and was holding the boy’s mother between them. Not good. Lex thought. He thought of all the things he could do, but nothing he did guaranteed the woman’s survival by very much.

“Now,” the Agent said. “why don’t we all just take a breather and talk this out like adults.”

“Very well, then.” Lex answered, reluctantly dropping his dagger and kicking it away. “What do you want?”

Zeve had not gone far when a dark shape emerged from a side aisle. He tensed once more, but as the figure came into focus, he made out the dark hair and tall frame of his cover man.

"Spear."

"Having a nice chat, captain?" Agent Spear lowered the gun he'd had aimed at Zeve's head. Dressed in similar garb, he looked past Zeve to where the civilians had been standing. Zeve had the feeling he'd heard some of the conversation.

"The target, Spear?"

"Gone." Spear bolstered his weapon. "Seems all the racket over here got him jumpy. Katana saw him pull out just before I found the body." He shook his head. "There goes half the pay."

Zeve swore. Dang it. Another failed mission. Another life lost because he hadn't been ruthless enough... No, never mind. It was done. "Can we nub him?"

"Maybe." Spear hesitated. "Nuh-nuh. Katana said she'd call Claymere to track him down, but you weren't answering the call, so I came looking for you instead. He's waaaaay, waaaay away by... Hey, you okay, cap'n?"

Zeve smoothed his features. "Dandy." Actually, he wanted to sink his fist into the other man's gut. They'd LET the madman go? Was his life more important to them than the mission? "Where is the body?"

Spear looked unconvinced. "Cap'n, you sure -- ?"

"Where is the body?"

Still wary, Spear pointed. "Thataway. Authorities are comin' though. We better skedaddle."

"You go on ahead. I'll be right out."

Spear seemed unhappy about this, but he nodded and turned away. Zeve heard him mutter "talking to them..." as he walked away.

Alone, he headed in the direction of the body.

“That’s more like it.” Jakob said as the bearer dropped his dagger to the ground. “What do you want?” The bearer asked him. “It’s simple really.” Jakob answered, “I would like nothing better then to see all three of you dead. Unfortunately I can’t do that. As an alternative though I would like to see her dead and you two locked up and used as lab rats for the rest of your lives, which would be about till you were 40, if your lucky. First things first though, I would like my gun. I feel empty without it, so just kick it over here.”
----------------------------------------------
Paul watched as the man ran back and grabber his mother. He looked at his dad, then at his mom. He had already sat by and not done anything once, and he was about to loose anyone else the same way. Paul waited until the man had his back to him then took several steeps sideways and charged the man. He tackled him to the ground and sent a furry of punches at him.
------------------------------------------------
Jakob felt the other bearer slam into his side. He gave a quick flick of the wrist as he was going down sending the knife at the boys mother. The knife pierced her neck and she fell to the ground. Jakob’s head bounced against the ground as several punches from the boy fell down on him. Jakob grabber both of the boy’s fist then tucked his legs in and pushed up flipping the boy over him. Jakob quickly got up, as he did the sounds of sirens could be heard, and they were getting closer. “Someone must have found the employee.” Jakob thought. He took off running, pulling the knife out of the mom on his way. “Until next time freaks!” Jakob yelled back as he took a running leap off the building. He hit the fire escape of a neighboring building and grabbed onto it before dropping himself to the ground. There was a wall at the end of the alley he was now in, and after a quick hop he was home free.

As Leo stepped back into the living room Sly was sitting there just waiting for him. "You o.k. little buddy?" Sly sighed, "I'm bored, i've been sitting around all day."

Leo felt bad for the poor kid. "Sly, you know i would take you to work with me, but i'm afriad some one might see you or recognize you. An agent might not see you, but your father told the police you were kidnaped; so anyone could be looking for you."

That didn't seem to make Sly feel any better. Leo sat down on the couch next to him. "How about this. When it gets dark, we can go out and get some pizza." Sly looked up, "I think i would like that." He said calmly, but Sly never smiled. "Alright then we'll leave in about an hour.

((Aww, Donkey…I wanted to knock him out. Well, at least he forgot his gun. :ebil:))

Lex ran to the edge of the building. He watched as the Agent made his way to the ground with the ease of a gymnast. “Leaving your life behind?” he whispered as the Agent disappeared behind a wall.

Lex sighed. He turned and walked over to the boy. “Sorry, kid.” He said; offering to help him up. “Are you alright?”

But he didn’t need an answer. The boy’s pale face said it all. He looked like he had just had a nightmare. In fact, he had.

Feeling sorry for him, Lex moved to the lifeless bodies. He laid them out side by side, whispering a silent prayer as he did so. He turned back to the boy.

“I’m going to have to take you with me.”

Paul laid on the ground for what seemed like an eternity, still not sure exactly what had happened. He sat up but that just made his head spin. He looked over and saw the guy moving his parents next to each other. That was when it really hit home. His parents were dead, gone, forever. He got up and walked over to the bodies and just stood over them, silent tears ran down his cheek. “I’m going to have to take you with me.” The man said to him. Paul looked at him and realized he was crying. He quickly wiped away the tears. “What do you me?” Paul managed to get out. He was so confused. One minute he and his family were enjoying their day out and the next his parents were dead.

Lex looked at the boy's sad face. He wished he had something to say that would comfort him, but there wasn't much time before the police came to investigate the roof. "I can't leave you here." he answered.

He opened his hand and called silently to his dagger, which appeared in his hand. "I am Lex Laban, leader of Team No. 7. We are going to take care of you." he quickly sheathed his dagger and put it in his backpack. "We must fly fast. Can you d that?"

Ceres wiped her brow of the stickiness the still heat of the day had caused and went to the spigot to refill her canteen and splash her face with some water. Building parts of ships wasn't a glamorous thing to do, but it was invigorating. She felt more alive now than she ever had in her life. Back when she had lived with her family, she had dated often, gone to little events and things, and spent more time having fun than doing anything purposeful or meaningful. She worked only as much as she had had to. Otherwise, she was walking the borderline between being a nervous wreck and avoiding her family, and being a social goddess. When she began having a wake up call and had really seen what she was doing, she began to grow stronger. But her world still shattered, and she had had to run away. Since moving in with Lex and the wonderful Dr. Swhint, Cerie had really grown in strength of character.
As Cerie turned off the water, she noticed the condition of the garden. It needed water very badly. Cerie stretched and got the hose, watering the thirsty little plants and misting the grass around the garden's border. We need rain soon, thought Cerie. Cerie stooped down to pull a weed from the flowerbed when she noticed something that shouldn't be there. Probably some toy or trash from picnicers. But as she picked it up, she realized it was her pendant that she had arrived with, the one that she had lost!! Cerie could barely hold back the tears as she rushed inside to her bathroom, plugged the drain, and carefully began scrubbing at the little silver leaf charm. This was one of the only things she had taken with her when she had run away, and she had thought it was lost forever. Finally, the charm came clean. She carefully dried it and put the cord around her neck. She took her notebook outside, sat under a tree, and began writing. This moment had to be recorded. The ships could wait.
