Faith_Warrior said:hehehe actually there is, I have some very important tools I use daily that are not working with Vista as reported in my programming community. So yes, there are problems with this M$ product right now.
I didn't SAY I was using it, I can't, my software does not work with it. I know software programmers that are using it though, their reports are that it does not work with certain development applications, some of which I am using.troglodyte said:that's exactly why its still in testing... >.>
and what are you using a non public release for anyway?...
That's cool with me. I've been waiting since 2001 already. What's six more months? LOLRagamuffins said:Reading about this last night (PC World) it will be quite some time before Vista is available on budget laptops because of the enormous strains it takes on resources. So getting a cheap laptop with Vista seems hardily possible for a good long time
The article also said that many of the laptops today will not be able to handle it ither, and laptops with Vista will ship six months after the initial release of the OS.
Mac doesn't need a start menu! Besides, who cliks Start to Shut Down anyways? LOL I don't know about Glass, but how about Aqua? Mac's have been right-clicking for a long time. It's called an Option Click. And right mouse buttons do work on a Mac. Market dominance? Since when is that a mark of quality?troglodyte said:i don't see Mac using a pretty start menu... unless you consider that bar on the top a good looker...
do i see Glass on the Mac desktops? no.
It took mac a few years to adopt something with a right click...
and look who's dominating the market
in terms of usefulness and versatility, i will go with MS until i find a major greivance...
Yeah, I want OS support for my 64bit processor when I'm running M$, so yes I'm waiting for this to be out and in working order.WalksWithChrist said:That's cool with me. I've been waiting since 2001 already. What's six more months? LOL
It's not like I'm drooling or anything. I just basically want to play with it. I look at Vista like I look at any M$ OS...as a toy.
Faith_Warrior said:Ummm... compared to Wini-ME?!?
Sorry, not quite that bad.
Wow...I don't even know where to begin!! Um, let's see. There's all sorts of trust issues I have with M$. There's the fact that I don't trust them to make a quality product. Also their concepts can be...backwards. And the fact that they tend to rip off other companies more than actually engineer their own software/OS from the ground up.SUNSTONE said:Why?
I'm just thankful that at least IE is no longer integrated into Windows Explorer like it was in Win98. That caused no end of trouble when IE got corrupted and suddenly we couldn't access our files normally anymore. One of the few times P2P networks came in handy, to say the least. Ended up downloading Netscape's browser and used that to find a different file manager that I could use to prepare the data to be backed up so we could format and start over. Didn't really change much, since we ended up buying a new XP like three months later, and the main problem with that one is pretty much just my family's seeming ineptitude at computer maintenance and security. My XP computer runs faster and cleaner than their's does and mine's 2 years older with less powerful specs to boot.WalksWithChrist said:One concept in particular I've always had serious issues with is how IE is integrated into the OS. That was, and is, a boneheaded move.
Are you referring to Luna or to the menus in general? I have mine set to Classic mode, so it looks the same as the previous systems' Start menus.Mikesoft said:(although I hate the start menus windows uses!)

What type of hardware? If you're referring to basic hardware, the hardware you're using isn't high quality because they don't have open specifications. Look at the linux kernel compile menu and you'll see how much hardware support there really is. Maybe you've never tried to recompile a kernel?Mikesoft said:unsupported hardware
Wine emulator will work in many cases. There are many alternatives available as well. What Windows applications do you want to work on Linux?Mikesoft said:unsupported software
Uhh not quite. Go to GNU.org and click free software directory. There's much higher quality apps available for Linux.Mikesoft said:lack of decent programs
One note... Linux takes longer to understand than does Windows. For obvious reasons.Mikesoft said:I have basically given up.
And you have the latest hardware? I can run Linux on an old 533MHz celeron with better performance than Windows in 1.5GHz.Mikesoft said:Windows runs very fast on my computer and does everything that I want it to do.
Yeah, but the backend is junk. So much for Microsoft's new filesystem.Mikesoft said:I will definately get windows vista as it looks very cool and modern (although I hate the start menus windows uses!).
??? Theft of intellectual property. Deception. Theft, etc, etc...Mikesoft said:I don't care if Microsoft have copied other companies.
Windows is great for basic home use. It's pretty good for small office workstations.Mikesoft said:As long as they have a decent working product (like windows xp not ME!) I am happy.

Understand meaning learn how to use. That's perfectly OK -- that's why there are programmers and users. The only problem is that most Windows users become ignorant about technology. When they hear "computer", they think "Windows".Quantos said:That's the thing, some people just want to use there computer, they don't want to "Understand" it, but just use it with what they have, and for playing games.
