Will God send me to hell?

I have committed many sins in my life, I'm trying to even it up by becoming a better person and doing good and helping people.

Only thing I worry about is, will he send me to hell for these following thngs? I smoke, I drink upon occasion and I cuss.

It's good to meet you. Well, from reading your testimony on your personal profile page, it appears that the Lord has begun a work in you! If you have an urge and desire to read the Bible and talk with Jesus each day, then He put that desire in you.

As His relationship with you grows closer, He will begin to slowly remove things in your life that do not belong (cussing, drinking, etc.). It's the work of His Spirit in your life that will take away even your desire for those things that you once had a desire for.

Let these verses be a comfort for you:

Philippians 1:6..."being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

If He started a work in you, He WILL finish it.
By the way, I understand that "feeling" you have when you read the bible and talk with the Lord! Its a feeling that's hard to describe.

What you do (sin-wise) does not determine whether you go to hell. The question is, is Jesus the Lord of your life? Have you accepted His offer of salvation? If so, don't worry about hell. Just stay close to Him.

Could it be that God is poking you, pointing out some things that He'd like you to change? If that's the case, then you are definitely saved, because "He corrects those He loves."

Ohh thank you for you're lovely guidance and comments friends. That's a question that has always bothered me.

I only thought this because when I went to my Catholic Primary school we had a dear old man in our chapel but he unfortunately passed which was a great hurt to me, he was really nice and cared for all. Then we got this horrible man who was so rude. I hated him and he caught me swearing when I was walking by with my friend and he said 'Don't you dare cuss, or the lord will send you to hell'.

I also asked 3 years later could I join the church and all I got was, "No you'll never join this [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]ing church as long as i'm here'. Which wasn't very nice.

So I've always though you had to be realllly good to be accepted into heaven.

Goodness is one of the beauties of Christianity.

God doesn't reject us because we're not good. In fact, it is because we lack goodness that Christ died, and through Christ, we receive God's grace. He came to heal the sick. So no, smoking, drinking, or cussing will not send you to hell.

Rather, our goodness is supposed to be a response. A grateful, loving response for what Christ did, and for the grace we receive.

God promises that He is the one who will make us good. We just need to be patient and trust that God will do it.

Really...is it true goodness if we're acting that way in order to get to heaven? Or is it true goodness if we do it because we love God, and so we love God's righteousness, and so we desire to be righteous like Him? My vote is for the latter.

There's much I could say but this is a great bunch and they've covered it rather well, don't cha think? Let me point out one though, (especially w/ your RC background) God gives us conviction, satan feeds us guilt. One is the accuser of the brethren, the other is our Advocate.

It's all about knowing Him! My first Pastor would sometimes wear a baseball hat that said "Let God change you." It was easy for him to smile when the need arose to just point to the hat as an answer to what seemed like very difficult questions, because it's amazing how often that is the correct answer! Make sense? 'If the hat fits, point to it,' or something like that

I think it very much fits your situation.

I am so sorry for how you were treated. Be assured that was NOT God's heart for you! People can be so self righteous, judgemental and condemning. It really only reflects on what is inside of them, not what is inside of you.

I had a bad experience like this once, when I was honestly seeking help from a church to become part of it. A woman I had trusted wound up deliberately mis-representing some things I shared with her, to the leader in the church, and was so mean to me once I was alone with her for the last time. As I drove home in tears I was surprised to hear Jesus say to me,
"I will repay you for the violence done to you."

I share this to show you that Jesus does not take it lightly when someone is cruel to one of His own, especially when that person who wronged you is supposed to represent His church! And you ARE His own, He has always been watching over you, for all of your life, and He is delighting that you have now come home to Him.

I also read your testmony Eliie, and what you experienced while reading the Word is what i call a spiritual breakthrough, and i believe is the key to our christian life, spending time in the secret place[psalm 91], with God, and you can get spiritual breakthroughs all the time if you are willing to get by yourself and seek God in praise and worship, prayer, and reading the Word, wait for the breakthrough to come and you will be oh so satisfied and joyfull, and you won't want to do worldly things because it is Jesus in the breakthrough living His life through you

Elizabeth, if you are repentant and ask Him to forgive you and try your best to not sin again, then He forgives you and remembers your sins no more but we do need to repent in order to accept His forgiveness. Hope this helps.. don't despair we have all committed sins and still commit them. It's important that we keep on trying. Remember the only difference between the good thief and the bad thief, is that the good thief repented. God bless

Im glad Jesus came to you. The church eventually got set on fire 3 years ago, once his chapel was burn instead of repairing it he just basically left it. Council had to knock it down.

I guess that's God & Jesus's punishment towards how him for how he treated our community. I don't have a chapel now because of it.

I don't know that I'd want to join that church. Find a real Christian church. And pray for that crazy old man!!

Yes, maybe God spared you from further influence. (-;

You might have looked sinful to him/them, but the habits you listed were mostly outward things you do that weaken your life -- not Bible-listed sins.

Drink -- can harm health, can injure relationships (Bible speaks against drunkenness, but not against drinking)
Smoke -- harms your health, bothers nonsmokers
Cuss --offends non-cussers, isn't good for job interviews

Real sin, if it's important to define, is more common-sense: cheating people, stealing, lying about who was at fault. Intentionally spreading disease. Things that create an unjust environment to live in.

The Bible talks about treating our lives as though we were a runner preparing for a race. We make choices to run more efficiently; but our salvation was given because of our inner faith. The terms are different.

By grace you are saved, through faith, not of your own works.

But once we start thinking of what we want to accomplish in God's kingdom, then we find we're better off setting aside the things that slow us down. Picture Jesus preaching, then ending his teaching with a swear word (that I can't type here).

Glad you're asking these things, after you recuperated from those people.

God l,oves you, really loves you, and He has no desire to send people to hell- that is why He sent Jesus to die for you and if you had been the only person that ever lived He would have done that to redeem you to Himself- the blood of Jesus was shed to wash away every one of your sins- past, present and future when you make Jesus Lord of your life.

Satan wants you to think you are not good enough, and you know something none of us, there was only one who was good enough to pay the price for our sins and that was Jesus. That He did on Calvary's cross and He said "it is finished" - Your pardon for every sin has been paid. The Holy Spirit is the one whom Jesus has sent to help you walk a Christian life. He wants to help you to become more Christ like. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are all rooting for you right now - they want to see you knowing the true joy that comes from knowing Jesus.

I pray that you might find healing from every hurt in the past. Our church is a good place to receive prayer for inner healing - Jesus wants you healed up and totally restored- bless you.

therefore in the Love of God separate yourself from sin .

Sin causes all creation to malfunction .

all those who malfunction as flesh malfunctions in their resurrected bodies .
