Dear Godislove94. You had some good replies, but remember that God is Love, and God will never force us to do anything, which makes us unhappy.
When we need teaching something, God`s eternal Law of Justice will do it.
In Galatians 6: 7-10: we are told: God will not be mocked, and we will always reap what we sow. Always ask God in Prayer, then watch out for God`s guidance. We know that God is Love, and God will never force us down a path where we are unhappy. I say this with love, Godislove. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.
John 21:18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you
do not want to go."
John 21:19 (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, "Follow me."
Revelation 2:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison,
that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
2 Corinthians 1:8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.
2 Corinthians 1:9 Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to
make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
Emmy, what you're saying isn't true. Many things that God tells us to do don't make us happy; first and foremost on that list is dying to our own self-will. Jesus told the rich man to sell all of his things and follow him and the rich man went away sorrowful because he loved his possessions more than God. What God promises to us is not happiness, but trouble:
John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
But in the midst of that trouble He tells us to rejoice because He is with us and has overcome everything we are facing. This world is not our home and we will face suffering and persecution here until the Lord returns. We should not seek happiness in our circumstances, we should seek Him; often times that means we will have to do things we don't like and make us very unhappy. Paul said he counted it all as rubbish so he could gain Christ; we should say the same. Only in that can we ever truly be happy.
