The show is funny, but in a way it's cruel. The people do know what they are going into, but to take complete opposites makes the show over the top. I don't go out of my way to watch it, but when it is on I will watch because some things are really quite funny.

I happen to tune-in to both Wife Swap and Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy.
Some of the episodes...I feel so badly for those wives and the families! Yes, some of them are totally outrageous. Other times, I watch it and gain quite the appreciation for my own family (without having to leave for two weeks!!!). Some of the changes people make afterwards have been beneficial for their entire families. Some of the others though...you know it only cemented the beliefs they had in the first place.

I do wonder though...like on this week's episode...about the Jewish and Christian moms switching places. Didn't look like either mom really came away with anything positive! That's a shame!

Well...guess I'll just have to tune-in next time...LOL

I didn't (and won't) watch it, but one of the wives from last night's show is from this area (the town I grew up in  ) and she was on the 10:00 news. She hated the experience. She really thought the husband in the other family was awful. Said she lost 7 lbs just from the stress, and she wouldn't recommend that as a good way to lose weight!

(She was the woman who was used to her husband being a stay-at-home Dad.)

I think its funny to see how all the kids react to their new "mom". They think that jus because they need to try a new food, or clean their rooms, that they are being treated badly. And what's funnier is when the dads step up and say that the "mom" is treating the kids bad... when they really are NOT.

Man if that happened to me I would have been in major rebellion. Lady comes in and tries to tell me what to do? Yeah right. I mean if it actually was for the better sure. But if she even tries to send me to a public school... grrrrr

The show is excellent because it teaches so much about our human condition and about each other.

It reminds us that we are not the center of our world.
It reminds us that a family needs to work together: cooperatively, fairly, and lovingly
It reminds us how important the family unit is; that they are lucky and special to be together

The problem is that, since this is a "reality television show," people think it is without any merit. I must heartily disagree, as people only see the show as reality television. They need to actually observe what is going on. Too quick are we humans to judge; this show proves it. So to add to the three (of many more) items above, I'll add yet one other, major reason:

It teaches us patience; to control our decisions, anger, and frustrations in order to take time to think things out clearly before we make rash, immature, and hurtful decisions.

She's a control freak! Lost 7 pounds??? How? All she did was sit on her fat (beep) and eat. I think that's all she does at her home too.
I don't think she liked that her husband grew a backbone.

Good show ... they try too much to put opposites together though and it makes every show repetitive with arguing and such.
Well, that's kind of the point.

Anyone else think that that one husband with the short white hair and mustache from the Christian family was a little unreasonable? The whole temporary tatoo episode he had...anyone else think he was overreacting? I hate when people sign up for the show, but refuse to cooperate with the "new" parent  ...it's only a week, just roll with it...
