Why??

Ok, here's what has been going on in my heart...

I have this boyfriend and we've been dating for almost a year and a half and we have talked about marriage-i would absolutely love to marry him! But of course it will be a few years from now. Anyway, recently our relationship has been struggling-or so it feels-and I'm thinking its because there is a lack of God being in the center. Lately we haven't really been letting Christ lead our relationship...and its definitely showing. He has been in a really grumpy mood lately and he's cussing a lot more. He's disrespectful to his family and i just hate to see him fall like that.

I can tell that he is falling farther from his relationship with God, and I want to try and help him. I've talked to him a little about it, and he assures me that he could be working on his walk with God, but I don't think he's doing anything to actually do that. I want to get him involved in a bible study either at school, or church, or even just with his friends. We occasionally do our own little bible studies, but we don't really get too deep into the Word. Does anyone have any advice? What can I do to keep God the foundation of this relationship?

I kinda went through that with my boyfriend. One of the best things that I did was to go to church together then really talk about the sermon and the Scriptures that were mentioned in the service. That really helped. Good luck.

You could as well join a Bible study group lead by other people. And remember that the Christian life is about denying oneself, carrying the cross, and following Jesus. That's a commitment. We can choose to feed the flesh or the spirit. The more we feed one, the weaker the other will be. So try to make him (and yourself) the most exposed to the things of God as possible.

Well, thanks! Does anyone have any idea of what sort of things we could do? Bible studies yeah, thats good. Church yeah...but that just doesn't seem like enough...

Well first of all, is he receptive to trying to bring God into the relationship? Is something going on with his life that is causing him to act this way? Seems a bit odd that he's suddenly just cussing and being mean to his family.

Maybe you could do something like...each week you read a book or chapter from the Bible then get together and discuss it. You might also want to ask your pastor to see what they could recommend as well.

Well, he definitely wants God in this relationship, but it seems like He's just falling in his own relationship with God. I've noticed that when I am falling short, it hurts the relationship cuz it hurts me, and I feel like that's whats happening to him.

This next week I'll do things like:
1. Randomly start a conversation about our own individual relationships with God, and how He works in our lives.
2. Maybe write him on facebook about a chapter of the bible (that's what we usually do) and I'll also encourage him to have a small little bible study with me.
3. Also there are a bunch of ministry groups we can go to around the area, I'll try to get him to go to some of those too!!
4. Ooh maybe ask him each day to make it known to others that he is a Christian ha, I did that once a long time ago and i think he really liked it.

And then next week after all of that, i'll post something about how our relationship is going, if it helped or not
