Its easy to believe in God, and have faith, when you're having the good times. But it's so easy to fall during the bad.
That's interesting, because my experience has been the exact opposite. I know God is with me during bad times, but during good times it's easy to think that I've created them myself.

Either good or bad, I think it is a blessing from God. During the bad times is when it seems He blesses us the most. I try to take it in stride when I'm being punished because I know the Lord chastens whom He loves and it just shows me that He loves me and wants to straighten me out. I try, though I fail alot, to live by the rule of in all things give God the glory.

Every time I see this or hear someone talk about it I think of the verses below. I think there are two extremes that we all tend toward, if pride or ignorance take hold.

Proverbs 30:7-97 Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: 8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: 9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Why do people act like they believe that they have earned the good things they have in life, but that the hardships and sorrows are punishments from God?
I think it is a natural human response to blame someone else (not just God) when things go wrong and to praise ourselves when things go right.

How many kids do you know will naturally blame themselves for things going wrong? It is always the the brother or sister's fault. Or the parent's fault. And I guess eventually it becomes God's fault. For many Christians it is Satan's fault. I think it is a natural defense mechanism of our psyche that most of us grow out of and realize is deceptive and destructive.

Jam 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Jam 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Jam 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

They have the wrong thinking...that God owes us when we are the ones who owe Him.
People are sometimes selfish and greedy and spoiled.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 5:20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to.
