John 3: 16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son and whosoever believes in him shal not perish but have everlasting life.
So, we know we will go to heaven if we simply believe in the Son of God.
Now, the question I think you are asking is "how can we be sure?"
I John 2:3
Now by this we know that we know Him , it we keep his commandments.
So, we can conclude that
1) we go to heaven if we believe in the Son of God
2) we can know that we will go to heaven if we keep his commandments.
(although we all will still screw up from time to time. read I John.)
I John 4:12-13
No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and his love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and He, in us, because He has given us of his spirit.
1) we go to heaven if we believe in the Son of God

3) we can know that we have the Holy Spirit if we love one another.
The next obvious question is "what does it mean to love one another?"
I John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.
so we know that we love others if we love God.
one last verse ... II Corinthians 13:5-6
Go look that one up on your own, then maybe read through I John, that is the best place to start.

I will go to heaven because I believe in Jesus. When I put my faith in him, God downloaded his righteousness on me. Now I am able to fellowship with him for eternity. He has granted me eternal life by my faith in him.

It's like this:
When you go home to your parents' house, they let you in because you are their daughter/son. They let you come and live there, because they know you and love you and you have a relationship with them (parent/child), even if you don't always get along well.
They don't let strangers come and live with them, because they don't know them or love them. If a stranger knocked on their door and ask to come live there, they would turn that person away, saying, "We don't know you. We can't let you in, because you might be here to harm us, not to love us."
But when you knock on that same door, they throw it open, welcome you inside and maybe even hug you and tell you how glad they are to see you.
Because they had prior relationship with you!
So it is with God and heaven. If you have relationship with him in this lifetime, he throws open the door and welcomes you in. But if you deny him, snub him, or worship some other god, he won't let you in because he doesn't know you and can't trust you.

i completely agree, if u believe that jesus christ the son of God gave up all his power and became a human being to die on the cross and carry all of our sins, then you will be saved.
Jesus came from heaven to die. Heaven is a place where sin can not exist. it is full of God's presence. becuase of this, before Jesus, people could not go to heaven unless they were sinless. but, the human race detirorated to the point that it is merely impossible to be sinless. Sin ran in our blood so to speak. so God had to send his Son, to die. Becuase he was perfect and sinless and God's son, he chose to carry everyone's sin with him and go to hell for us. in that sense, God has paid our debts if we accept him.

Doesn't satan believe that Jesus died for the sin of the world, and that Jesus is god. What is the difference when we say we believe the same thing?

My point was that there is more to just believing, it is to let the resurected Jesus live thru us.
