Amid the Democratic National Convention taking place in Chicago, there’s legitimate excitement seeing a woman heading a major political party’s ticket this year. Women are being encouraged to vote for Kamala Harris as a woman. But as a Christian and an Iranian American woman, I will not be voting for Harris because she represents exactly the values that endanger women in the Middle East and around the world. And neither should you.

For my first 33 years, I lived under the harsh rules of the extremist Iranian Islamic regime. I have countless scars from extremist Islam, including the torture and death of my husband, the breaking apart of my family, my arrest and imprisonment, misogyny in every aspect of life, and the execution of my closest friend.

I am very grateful to the United States, my adopted country and home, for providing me all the freedom as a woman, free from fear, persecution, and discrimination. I appreciate all my freedoms in America, and I always celebrate seeing women being empowered, flourishing, and attaining the highest leadership positions.

However, being a woman is not a good enough reason to vote for a candidate, especially when such a candidate does so much harm to the well-being of hundreds of millions of women around the world. There’s no more vivid example of how Harris threatens women than by her support of the evil Islamic Republic regime, the enemy of women everywhere.

She is talking about delicate diplomatic negotiations going on all over the world.
My memory is fuzzy on Iran's nuclear deal.
All I remember is that Tom Cotton, whose values, or lack thereof, are opposite to mine, suggested a predictably hawkish solution I believed was misguided and dangerous.

Good point. Gender, race, class etc does not determine if one is qualified to hold a position in which 1000's and in fact millions of lives are at stake - the well-being of a nation of over 340 million

It's kind of complicated...and it doesn't seem as if there has been any change in the past few years.

Then I thought: Israel? Does this have something to do with Iran's possible counter-attack on Israel after Israel killed Hezbollah and Hamas leaders on its soil? I imagine that right now we are trying to work diplomatically, which is the best choice unless one or another country makes a move.

Yes, Iran funds Hamas and Hezbollah. Yes, Israel has blown up airfields in Lebanon and committed terrible, unspeakable atrocities against the Palestinian people.

And yes, Israel is our ally, despite the unconscionable vicious actions of its indicted PM, Netanyahu.

And yes, we want a cease fire so that the killing and starvation of Palestinians will end.

So what do we do? We haven't chosen yet.

Iran is funding terrorism, but Israel (not the people but their depraved leader) is far from blameless.

Netanyahu's actions, both in the Iran assassinations, the Lebanon airfield bombings, and obviously the mass murders in Palestine, have got to stop. He is escalating the hostilities, potentially to a very dangerous level.

Israel (despite its violent leader) is our ally, but if they want our financial and tactical support he has to stop the murders and stop the escalation.

We don't have to finance genocide. We don't have to help him start a world war. Our purse-strings are our insurance against this.

This Iranian American is speaking much wisdom which she has learned from her own life experiences. Needless to say, I agree with her conclusions.

I agree.
Not because of race or gender.
Interesting and hypocritical to the woke movement albeit because they don’t want gender.

She’s inept and the world will not respect her nonsensical views and speeches.

Where in your discourse do you mention the rape of women and murder of children? Israel goes out of its way to avoid civilian casualties and the cowards of Hezbollah hide behind their own innocent people. You seem to be concerned more about airfields and wicked terrorist leaders than actual innocent people caught in the crosshairs. It is my opinion you have stated a very one sided view of the situation. As long as the goal by many is the elimination of Israel this will not stop and innocent people will die on both sides. Israel has the right to exist and they will eventually prevail as any serious Bible student knows.

Is not Israel's attacks on Lebanon while discussing cease fire in Cairo duplicitous?
Israel is prosecuting a war on the animals that mercilessly attacked them. It is called self preservation. Israel is not the bad guy here. It is because of the cowardly tactics of Israel’s enemies that cause the innocent deaths.

HAMAS emerged in 1987 during the first Palestinian uprising, or intifada, as an outgrowth of the Muslim Brotherhood's Palestinian branch. The group is committed to armed resistance against Israel and the creation of an Islamic Palestinian state in Israel's place.

HAMAS formed in late 1987 at the beginning of the first Palestinian intifada (uprising). Its roots are in the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, and it is supported by a robust sociopolitical structure inside the Palestinian territories. The group’s charter calls for establishing an Islamic Palestinian state in place of Israel and rejects all agreements made between the PLO and Israel. HAMAS’ strength is concentrated in the Gaza Strip and areas of the West Bank.

HAMAS has a military wing known as the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades that has conducted many anti-Israel attacks in both Israel and the Palestinian territories since the 1990s. These attacks have included large-scale bombings against Israeli civilian targets, small-arms attacks, improvised roadside explosives, and rocket attacks.

The group in early 2006 won legislative elections in the Palestinian territories, ending the secular Fatah party’s hold on the Palestinian Authority and challenging Fatah’s leadership of the Palestinian nationalist movement. HAMAS continues to refuse to recognize or renounce violent resistance against Israel and in early 2008 conducted a suicide bombing, killing one civilian, as well as numerous rocket and mortar attacks that have injured civilians. The US Government has designated HAMAS a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

Cheering for HAMAS is no different than cheering for Al Queda

  • Israel has declared war on Hamas following its surprise assault on the country’s south in October 2023, the deadliest attack in Israeli history.

Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing nearly 1,200 people and taking more than 200 hostages. In response, Israel declared a war aimed at eradicating the group. The conflict has killed nearly forty-thousand people as of July 2024, according to Palestinian officials in Gaza.

Dozens of countries, including the United States, have designated Hamas a terrorist organization

If you cause war don't cry when your opponent strikes back.
Also and unfortunately civilian casualties become collateral damage. They attacked civilians out of hate.

If HAMAS cared, and they simply don't, they would not surprise attack another country NOT inflicting war on them.
HAMAS sees their own people as tools. Tools for sympathy because for whatever reason every single time they attack Isreal, they have more people killed.

NOW tell me how much they really care.

If you know it happens repeatedly, why do it?
Sympathy?

It's like a freaking narcissist smacking someone and saying you deserved it then crying foul if you smack them back.
Be abused, or killed but do not fight back.
