I hear it politically correct to shift blame
I see no reason to fix it, since I feel that was ordained by God and was perhaps a good thing....

Was God behind the great Schism of 1054?
So 1054 AD was all LLoJ's fault?

Oh my!

How many candles will he need for his next birthday cake?
For the sake of eccumential peace. I didn't want to blame it on me or you. He was handy.

In RC parlance, the Pope today would be considered the "potter" and the RCs the clay....makes aheckavalotta sense also

I wonder how long a thread titled: Why the Catholic view of the cross is wrong, would last?

One thread personally attacking non-Catholics. Amazing! (It's still open)
I could start one and find out

What do you reckon the Catholic view is?

They had one and it lasted longer than I expected. Here's the difference. A Protestant (being so varied) can always say, "That's those other Protestants". The Catholic cannot.

There's also the difference that even when a Catholic or an Orthodox christian says that the teaching of this or that Protestant denomination is in error on its view of the cross there is no follow up to accuse the Protestant denomination of not being Christian. This is because Catholics do not believe that Protestants are not christians.

CCC 838 “The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptised who are honoured by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter.” Those “who believe in Christ and have been properly baptised are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church.” With the Orthodox Churches, this communion is so profound “that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord’s Eucharist.”

CCC Glossary: PROTESTANT: A person who believes in Christ and has been baptized, but who does not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety, but rather is a member of a Protestant church or ecclesial community whose roots are in the Reformation, begun in the sixteenth century

Ya'll define everything in detail. It's something I've always noticed about the Roman Catholic Church.
We keep it a bit simpler by saying "We don't claim to know." I do know we do accept some Baptisms as valid from outside Orthodoxy so that says enough. Our conditional baptisms (the just in case kind) show we do not know by the words used (if thou be not already baptized).

Yeah, it can be helpful in cases like this thread's name and the alternate suggested by LLoJ.

It can also be a little unhelpful when folk want answers for absolutely every detail of every statement and a basic "we do not know" would have spared us the grilling

Yes, sometimes, "I don't know" is true wisdom.
