  Salutations as i am new to this forum especially this section i don't know the kind of posters that usually inhabit the section so i am surprised to see that quite a few of you are atheists or agnostics.Surely you cant claim to speak for Christianity or from an orthodox or literal view point if you are not even Christian to begin with, really is quite pathetic.

Honestly I ve seen more orthodox Christians in some of the conspiracy forums i visit. I think mods around here should lift their game big time. I am sure other sections of this forum that are just as bad also.

And if you think i sound too narrow minded or fundie well thats just too bad as there are far worse or should i say more conservative Christians than me.However many of you guys don't even meet the most basic criteria of Christian do you even read or own a Bible gees pathetic.

That´s because we are invited here.
If you don´t want to meet non-Christians, there are the OnlyChristian sections for you.
Surely you cant claim to speak for Christianity or from an orthodox or literal view point if you are not even Christian to begin with, really is quite pathetic.
I think you misunderstand the majority of non-Christians if assuming that they even intend to speak for Christianity.

And if you think i sound too narrow minded or fundie well thats just too bad as there are far worse or should i say more conservative Christians than me.
I don´t seem to understand this argument. If someone sounds narrow minded to me, it´s not much of a consolace that there are even more narrow-minded people out there.
However many of you guys don't even meet the most basic criteria of Christian
What are those criteria, in your opinion, and what gives you the idea that they are a requirement to post here?
do you even read or own a Bible gees pathetic.
Although to my knowledge it´s not part of the rules here that you need to have read or own a bible in order to visit and participate in this forum - I do have read and own a bible.

Are you under the impression that philosophy is strictly a Christian endeavor? Or are you simply afraid of dealing with atheists and agnostics?

one question:

has it occured to you that many agnostics and atheists were once believers, read their Bible a lot and yet they still went atheist or agnostic?

Umm... nice to meet you too. It's not like some of us weren't believers at one point in time, like some of the other peeps above had said.
Well, I'm sure you'll eventually find you niche here. It's really interesting at times. XD

Misfit, we invite them here in the first place. To talk.

Talking is good.

I would think you'd appreciate an opportunity to share your faith with non-believers. And to be ready to defend it. Intellectual debate is good. It sharpens the mind to be challenged and to provide answers to hard questions.

That's why I'm here. It's boring to debate with people who have the same viewpoint.

Well, let me clear up something; every agnostic is either a theist or atheist. One has to do with knowledge of God whereas the other two are belief, or lack of belief. To answer your question I think, Atheists and other free-thinkers such as Deist's post here in order to better understand theistic and nontheistic religions and also to test their own beliefs.

Surely we can't. And don't.

Your a Rationalist, you think like a scientist the type that thinks faith has to be proved in court of reason well I have news for you it doesnt.
I suppose you think religion is purely for political purposes.

Your a Rationalist

I'm an advocate of reason, yes.

you think like a scientist

Why, thank you. I will take that as a compliment.

the type that thinks faith has to be proved in court of reason well I have news for you it doesnt.

I agree, it doesn't. You are perfectly free to avoid the court of reason as much as you want. I don't think it is wise, but be my guest. Be aware that, while you are free to avoid the court of reason, the court of reality will pass sentence on you through the law of cause and effect, as it does for us all. You may wish you had paid more attention to the court of reason, though I agree that the court of experience has its benefits too. The wise person knows how to use both courts well, and shirks neither.

I suppose you think religion is purely for political purposes.

No, I don't. I'm not sure there you are getting that from. Perhaps you'd like to explain what you mean in detail.

Amazing how quickly the Protestant reform, having started the humanist movements, suddenly turned around and became the new entrenched orthodoxy. Within thirty years of Luther's death, people had retreated into literalism and willing political subjugation... but at least the universities and seminaries continued to exist and do good work. This newest trend of anti-intellectualism concerns me, because not only does it reject secular rationalism, but also denies the efficacy of serious Biblical scholarship, embracing odd concepts about the end times and losing track of the very central messages of mercy, grace, and peace. Interpreting the Bible seems to have become the province of whoever has the most "sway", and that is a very dangerous place to be.

:preach: When it comes to questioning the orthodoxy of the Christian Bible indeed it IS!.

A recent thread in General Apologetics asked if I would want to be a theist.

Whenever I encounter people like that, my desire to belief in a deity becomes overwhelming. To be able to circumvent any reason, any thoughts, any logic and simply jump to an "absolute truth" is so appealing.

Sadly I am a sceptic by nature, and simply cannot let go of my basic level of doubt.
