  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why skirt the issue?

Since the beginning of time, there has been a distinct line between powers of the occult and God.

Recently, advances in prophetic technology have allowed us to do things that are almost as cool as new agey occult-like practices, but still technically in the clear with God. We can ask for signs, communicate with the dead, receive special messages, and levitate--all under the ruse of "prophetic gift!"

Now, John Edwards (of Crossing Over fame) has fully bridged the gap! Check it:

Next time your pastor talks about practical praying, make sure he gives a shout-out to good old John Edwards!

Sorry.

I think a lot of the attraction of the whole prophetic/healing thing is that it has a particular leaning towards all things mystical/New Agey. Sort of like how Kaballah is attractive.

The pastor at the Baptist Church that I usually go to just did a sermon on how to get your prayers answered--basically what Edward was talking about but without the mysticism angle... he's gonna hear from me on this one =)

Enter the era of John-Edwardology!

No Comment. (I really, really, really want to say something)

To me? You do know I was being sarcastic. (But I do want to know what "special messages" are and how one can contact the dead contra clear scriptural prohibitions and be "technically in the clear with God.")

You know I was exaggerating... =)

Example of what I'm talking about though:

New Christian approaches Prophet on a certain prophetic ministries forum, says he's concerned about his unsaved dad, wants Prophet to help. New Christian asks Prophet to pray to God to ask to be shown a specific behavior that dad does that no one knows about. Prophet says ok, I'm praying but I haven't been shown that behavior yet, but I'll keep trying.

What does that sound like?

"I'm being contacted by someone who recently passed, and they're asking about someone in the audience .... here."
"Yes, my mom recently passed away!"
"Ok, I'm sensing that there was a trinket involved."
(Beams) "Yes, she had a locket that she never showed anyone!"
"She wants you to know that the financial situation will be fine."
"Oh thank you!"

That was my text impression of John Edward's show. I'm not sure if it's still aired, but it's pretty much that conversation repeated over and over for a half hour minus commercial breaks.

There's some very human, very wicked attraction to magic and the occult that is difficult to explain, however, it does tie in with ancient Israel's love affair with idols. Maybe because humans are impatient and fickle, we'd rather have something we can cling to. The Israelis lost faith in an invisible God, so began to cling to false gods that were at least tangible. Likewise, we know that God has a plan for us, but we grow impatient and would rather cling to magical revelations and signs than wait faithfully.

My husband and I move in the prophetic, and while I am still learning about it, in the past 3 years I have never heard of anyone prophetically speaking or even being given a message from or about someone that has passed on. So if you know someone who claims to be speaking to dead people and also claiming it is from God you need to step away from that person, and pray for them. Unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying.
