Karebu,
I hope you will wait for an answer from Josephus, As I'm sure he will have a very good one.

Mallory,
I suggest you read the rules of this forum, We aren't allowed to respond to these posts unless we have permission from Josephus.

Sorry for butting in here guys! I know I didn't ask permission to post, I just wanted to make sure Karebu returns for a more realistic answer to their question.

I'm not Josephus but I just want to say that some atheists, like me, find much happiness in life.

And you don't really die, as much as simply returning from whence you came.

(you don't get to use 'whence' too often, you know)

We exist because God desires a soul mate. God desires someone to prove his love to.

"No love is greater than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." - Jesus

Obviously, God can't die for the angels. And since the angels arent' made in God's image, and man is, then our purpose is congruent with our own identity as being his image-bearers.

Um, good for you and good for them.

No, you die. And then it's over and it's done and there's no more of this crap.

That's the worst reason I've ever heard. I have a soulmate. It doesn't make life any more worth living.

I'll lay down my life for my friends, or something, anything, just give me half a reason.

josephus,
sorry to jump in uninvited and all but with reference to your answer to karebu's question -

"We exist because God desires a soul mate. God desires someone to prove his love to."

surely if God needs something outside himself, something external to himself, then he is, in himself, incomplete and, therefore, imperfect.
thanks

hmmmmmm, sorry to intrude once again, but maybe this will help a little bit.

Revelations 4:11
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Personaly I'm glad he created me :) and will never stop thanking him for it. life doesn't have to be all bad, There's alot of good out there, we just need to know where to look for it, and the best place to start is with our creator.

Mallory,
I guess alot of it has to do with the way you look at things, and how you see them.

Let's see now,
If God sends the rain, should I curse him for it?
Or should I thank him for blessing and watering the ground?

In the winter when I go out to collect wood for the fire,
should I curse the fact that I have to go out and gather wood? or should I thank God that I have the wood to collect so I can stay warm?

I will dwell on the things that are good and the things I have to be thankful for.

If I spent all my time dwelling that wich is bad then my life would become meaningless.

I'm very grateful and thankful for everything I have.

But I see all the pain and suffering around me, I know that at any moment it could be me. Why risk it? Why do I work just so I can buy what I need to live so I can work some more? I'm just killing the time, all the time, just waiting for this, waiting for that. The same crappy thing over and over and over all the time, every day. All I feel is hate and anger for this screwed-up society and all its screwed-up people.
