How come Jon Huntsman is considered to be a "RINO" or a liberal by many Republicans despite his conservative/free market stance on many issues? He is solidly pro-life, has a fiscally responsible plan, has very good foreign policy views, pro-free trade, and opposed to Obamacare. The only "liberal" stance he might have is on global warming (and he opposed cap and trade) and on immigration. But that said he is far more consistent than Romney.

The basic reason is because he hasn't made any distinguishing stand-out moves. Romney already represents milk toast aplenty.

Michele Bachmann has been outspoken all along. Rick Perry has made bold moves ... didn't work out so well last night, but there ya go. Herman Cain has distinguished himself with his tax plan. Newt Gingrich wins every debate ... but has baggage. Rick Santorum has guts and knowledge, but seems to place himself before country. Ron Paul is one-of-a-kind.

It's a tough field, Mung. This is the toughest presidential contest in my lifetime, maybe ever. Just having your heart in the right place is not good enough.

Today's GOP is so radical, a solid conservative like Huntsman seems left to them. Not to mention he worked in the Obama administration, so he's congregating with the "enemy", which some nutters also attack him for.

I'd forgotten that ... such ancient history ... but that helps explain why he went flat right out of the chute when the race started and there was lots of press about that.

I think that's pretty much it. He got bad press at the beginning from the conservative MSM and has simply gone nowhere. Now, his bad poll numbers discourage anyone from supporting him, since they may as well support Romney.

In fact, I'll bet that one of Huntsman's problems is that he's way too much like Romney. A handsome, moderate, former governor, he's even a member of the same church.
I'll bet everyone who likes Jon Huntsman will end up switching their support to Mitt Romney after Jon Huntsman drops out.
