Why Islam is not Christian

I see the claim made over and over again that Islam is a Christian heresy.

Here's why Islam is not Christian and is not even a Christian heresy:

1) The founder of Islam, Muhammad, was never a Christian.

2) Islam explicitly rejects Christianity. The Quran directly addresses Christians and tells us to give up our faith in the Holy Trinity and calls us deceived. And Muslims believe that our Holy Bible has been corrupted. They tell a totally new and different story and say that Adam and Eve, Abraham, and all the rest were Muslims. And they say that Abraham's blessing was through Ismael instead of through Isaac. This is why Islam is inherently hostile to the Jewish people since it says in the Holy Bible that Isaac was the one who received the blessing and that therefore the Jews are God's first chosen people.

3) Islam has more in common with the pagan religion of Muhammad's ancestors than it has in common with Christianity.

4) Muhammad's teachings and example are the opposite of Jesus. Jesus tells us to love our enemies and to forgive them even when they persecute us. But Muhammad tells his followers to kill the unbelievers.

But aren't there Muslims who are peaceful?
Yes.

Who are they?
The secular Muslims or a Muslim in name alone, the ones who don't follow all of the teachings of Muhammad.

But can't Christianity be taken to the extreme?
Yes. An example of Christianity taken to the extreme is Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

I have never considered Islam Christian anything. The beginnings of its history testifies to that. It is a grab bag of this and that to suit it's founder.

Some of our regulars on here have called it a Christian heresy. That's why I made this thread explaining the basic reasons why the religion of Islam isn't Christian in any way shape or form. One common error people make is to confuse religion with people, as if criticism of the religion of Islam is criticism of every Muslim. But this ignores the fact that some Muslims are secular, which means that their Muslim identity is more about culture, heritage, and national identity than about the religious teachings of Islam. These are the ones who are relatively peaceful. It's when they start to get serious about the religious teachings of Islam and start wanting to emulate Muhammad that they start killing in the name of Islam since that's what Muhammad did.

Islam is only a Christian heresy if Satanism is. Both are evil and stole aspects of our faith and warped them. That doesn't make them Christians in error. It makes them evil and blasphemous, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

...who let countless people suffer immensely so it could be their "cross to bear." Sorry, I know she meant well and did a lot of good too, but surely there are better examples.

Sorry but frankly I find this post to be either stating the obvious or let's-hate-Muslims propaganda. It reminds me of when atheists use the Crusades or Spanish Inquisitions as an excuse to hate Christians, ie nonsensical and counter-productive to say the least.

I strongly disagree with your opinion of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. A saint isn't someone who can turn the world into a painless utopia. She did things that most other people would never think of doing such as taking care of lepers. Her and her sisters tended to people with AIDS as soon as it became an epidemic and when most people were afraid to even be near a person with AIDS. And, by God's grace, she persevered in doing all that she could do for most of her long life.
I posted this thread because some regulars on here keep claiming that Islam is a Christian heresy. I get tired of seeing that claim repeated on here, so I explained in the OP why the claim is not true. My intention is to nip it in the bud.

This thread gives no indication that it is about hating people but a false religion.

The charge that I created this thread to hate on Muslims is simply not true. There are some Muslims that I respect, but I don't want this thread to get political. Besides, Muslims would be offended by someone calling their religion a Christian heresy.

Fine, but you didn't stop there. You called Muslims de facto killers (ie the ones who weren't are "not really Muslims"). That's not hateful? It might not have been your intent, but it sounds that way to me.

The fact is that Islam was founded by a ruthless warlord. So following his example means becoming a ruthless killer.

Have you read the Old Testament?

There are some good points in your OP but come on man

Gee no hatefulness there.

Rest my case.

You might try actually doing some reading on Islam, and I don't mean by some blatantly anti-Islam person or site. Ignorance like this is what divides people.
I have read about Islam. I think you need to read about Muhammad. He wasn't anything like Jesus.

Christians read the Old Testament in light of the New Testament.

Right but nonetheless God is God.

We need to accept that God doesn't do things because they're just, they're just because He does them, but that still doesn't mean the whole Bible is puppies and rainbows.

Islam is one of many false religions/sects/denominations, whatever, but to call its adherents de facto killers is uncharitable... especially when there are some Muslims that are more Christ-like in conduct than a whole host of 'Christians' I've met.

Christians read the Old Testament in light of the New Testament.
It is all interwoven. Full of types and shadows. An unfolding of our salvation history with a future of eternal life.

That's correct and there are far too many Christians not like Christ.
That's true. But the ones who ask "What would Jesus do?" and follow Christ's teachings and example don't commit acts of terror. However, if a Muslim asks, "What would Muhammad do?" it would be to kill the unbelievers. And remember that Islam wasn't founded during Old Testament times. It was founded hundreds of years after Christianity was founded. It's a religion that tries to undo the work of Jesus.

it does undo the work of Jesus. It denies who He is as well as undoing the work on the cross. There is no such thing as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Heaven/ paradise is a fleshly place. It is, no matter what people say an unraveling of Christianity and it's power. No matter what patriarchs they claim or how they make over Jesus and His mother. This does not mean that those that see the religion for what it is are demeaning people caught in that religion. Islam is not a sacred cow that is off limits to discuss. That is a dangerous concept when we cannot disagree without it turning into accusations of demeaning the people that follow it.
