I did ask. No one answered. What do you want me to do about it?
Hello Carly,

Calvin did not teach that we are automatons. He believed that every thing we do we do freely of our own will. He also believed that God has predestined all things.

This may seem like a contradiction, and if God were a man it would be, But God is not a man and what is impossible for man is not impossible for God.

We Calvinist believe in the total depravity of man. This does not mean that we are as evil as we can be, but instead it means that every aspect of our being has been corrupted by the fall. It also means that "the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

It is part of our corrupt nature to reject the things of God. If left to our own free will we would all reject the Lord. But God " hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will " So God changes the hearts of those who will be saved enabling us to believe. When Our hearts are changed then we freely believe. It is God’s work of Grace in us.

On this matter Calvin agrees with St. Augustine and they both believed that they agreed with the Scriptures.

Reformed Christians agree with Roman Catholics that God uses means to accomplish His work in us. He uses prayer, preaching, baptism, the Supper, etc... as means of grace to his people.

I hope that helps with your question.

Dominus Vobiscum,
Kenith

Let me tell you, Christ would not and could not survive in this room.
"Could not survive in this room"? Hmm !! On the contrary, im pretty certain he could! Consider also that Christ went to the synagogue on the sabbath which was full of self righteous scribes and pharisees, not to mention the tradrs in the temple grounds! And.............God forbid................... he actually spoke to a sadducee woman who had had multiple partners!!!
Ok now lets prize those blinkers to the side a little *there we go* now take a good look around.................... Here we are right in the middle of a community of the most diverse belief systems in the world. The opportunities are astronomical.....Getting the picture yet? ;)
