Not all the difference, but it is essential. If we're going to get through this with as few casualties as possible, mask wearing will be essential.

Not hardly any of the difference IMO as if mask wearing were truly that great lockdowns and contact tracing and quarantines and closing borders wouldn't be needed. I put mask effectiveness at about 5-20% at best.

Well if we're going to share opinions, I'll throw mine out there. Our government lied to us and downplayed the importance of wearing masks because they knew the supply was short and there wouldn't be enough for health care workers if we all started ordering them.

But look at Asian countries who have been in this kind of mess before, e.g. South Korea. They all started wearing masks from the get go. When our government finally got honest, we started making masks, which we could have been doing from the beginning until the supply caught up with the demand.

All this to say, maybe if we had observed the ways Asian countries reacted, and followed suit, maybe the spread would have been different. The reality is, we still have half of our population that disbelieves the effectiveness of mask wearing because our government lied to us from the outset and then changed the story. At least, that's my opinion.

That's pretty accurate in my opinion, Public Hermit.

I would add for the thread's consideration that it is very weird that the people on this messageboard who want to paint wearing a mask or telling others that they should as some kind unthinking regurgitation of the government's lies or whatever seemed to have no problem completely swallowing the government line when it was all about not wearing a mask, and the virus being no big deal, and all these other lies that were floated out there with various justifications (like Trump claiming it was an effort to avoid causing panic; so instead he caused a poor fool to ingest aquarium cleaner and die because it had some ingredient in it with a similar name or composition as a very dangerous chemical compound that he was suggesting obliquely could or should be used to treat covid...that's...better?).

But it's the mask advocates and the media who are 'politicizing' the pandemic. Sure, sure.

Masks are a matter of opinion as no scientific figures can be produced as to the effectiveness of them it is all opinion based upon speculation if masks were truly saving 20% more lives we would be told outright by those in charge of these mandates how many lives are being saved.... instead we have nothing but SILENCE from them and demands to wear them. I do figure distancing works.... masks I question their effectiveness.
I also question that "any" piece of trash worn over a face does much as any "face covering" is allowed to suffice for a mask or whatever to me it means masks are nothing but a placebo to quell the panic and fear which the media is stirring up.
