  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are people who are happy and healthy; and they just enjoy life. But there are people who suffer a lot in this life. There are people who are disabled and they see the people who are not disable being able to do stuff that they cannot do. It makes them want to kill themselves. And some people deal with actual pain, not emotional, but physical pain. Why can't they just end it all?

Sometimes it seems unfair to say that it is wrong to kill yourself, for those who are actually suffering. (Just to let you know, this is not me).

I watched a video on 9/11 attack, and people were jumping out of the windows. These people were going to die anyways. Then I watched a family who talked about their son. This was a Catholic family. They were talking about an unknown man who jumped out of the building, but they couldn't tell if it was their son or not. The picture was blurry. But you can tell that he was a cook just like their son by the clothes he was wearing. But they were pretty sure that it was not the son. They were saying that he knew not to commit suicide, for it is a sin against God. They were disappointed that anyone would even ask if that was their son. That was the only reason why the believe he wasn't their son. They couldn't tell by the picture. It was a little blurry, but you can clearly see what clothes he had on.

So, the question is, would they be disappointed if that was their son? Why would God tell someone that they have to suffer through the pain?

This guy was in a burning hot building, and breathing all this smoke. Do you know what that is like? Well, I'm sure you do. But it hurts your lungs. Why wouldn't he jump to alleviate the suffering? Sometimes suicide is the only option.

Suicide is the ultimate act of self-worship.
As long as you are alive you have hope, once you end your life hope is gone.
Man will tell people that there is no hope of recovery or living without pain.
God is a pain-taker.

Nobody should commit suicide, because with God there is always hope. Even if He doesn't take the pain away, some people won't let Him, He gives the strength to endure the pain.

There are people who are disabled and they see the people who are not disable being able to do stuff that they cannot do.

To address this part of the OP, sometimes, a move to a better area with mass transit can change ones view point or perspective. Otherwise, feeling stagnant can contribute greatly to ones depression and despair.

A fresh start can profoundly change ones quality of life.

Transportation can add a richer quality to ones life, as one can get to various support groups and can participate in life through more opportunities to work or to volunteer, even be mentored.

When one feels needed and wanted, and has a sense of purpose, life is so much better.

Got into an argument with someone right after 911 over the same issue . It takes about 10 seconds to fall from that height and you die so fast your nerves don’t have time to feel the pain. Versus taking up to 20 minutes to burn to death . That’s not suicide that’s choosing to die painlessly and quickly instead of slowly and in agony

Sometimes suicide is the only option.
This is false. Dying might be unavoidable (try avoiding dying for, let's say, 200 years) ...
But willingly murdering ones own self or anyone else is a deadly sin.

Willingly dying is not the same as suicide, btw. Yahweh knows the inner thoughts of the heart, and all the motives involved. He Judges Rightly.

It may well still be suicide.

I don't know for sure if it were true or not but it was reported that when one of the buildings was collapsing during 911 a person actually slid down the building and survived. Person jumping out of windows during that tragic day may not have been attempting to commit suicide, maybe faced with the horrible circumstance they were facing, that was what they felt was their best alternative and who knows, maybe by some miracle they could have survived. If you believe in God's word, anything is possible. That's where faith comes in. As believers, we should never give up as there's always hope.

I do not see jumping from a burning building as suicide. It could be classed as a natural response to escape, even if it means certain death.

I think it is a reaction to a crisis, not the person wanting to end their life.

Jump out of a burning building right into Hell fire. 1000 times hotter. More acrid (sulfur) smoke.

Not a wise choice.

I disagree with suicide because it's unproductive. It robs a suffering person of any opportunity for the pain to ease and life to get better. While it's an automatic end to suffering, it's of no value because the person's not around to experience the relief that comes from it.

It isn't a choice though. You can hardly stay in an inferno unless you can't get out. We are hardwired to try to survive.

I am sorry Jessie but I misread your post. [That will teach me to put the cart before the horse] :)
You have good advice above so I will just say God bless and I am relieved that you were not speaking of you.

I'd have to say that intentional suicide in some ways is the cowardly way out.

The next time you iron some clothes or cook, stick your hand on the hottest part. And note that you’ll react before you can think . I’m quite sure those jumpers waited until they couldn’t take it any more.

As I’ve stated, I live in NYC . A building caught fire next to the LIRR train tracks near Jamaica station . Eight tracks and we were on track 1 completely away from the side the fire was on. Every one on that side of the train got up and moved to the other side because the side facing the fire was so hot. I no longer think fires are like they show in the movies.

(Because I live here I couldn’t watch those 9-11 videos for over 10 years . You could see and smell the world trade building burning from that same LIRR train station in Jamaica, Queens . Look on a map to see how far away that is)
