Honestly, after reading the first three pages, I can't believe how hard some people thought about this op...it's "cultural this"...it's "religious that"...and so on...

I mean just imagine if we were all shooting fluids from a mere handshake...do you think the handshake would still exist outside the bedroom? Doubtful..

My point isn't that we should do as animals do, necessarily. I'm merely asking why we don't do as other animals?

For instance, we don't throw or even touch our own feces because we know we might get diseases that way. There's a logical, reasonable answer for this. What's the answer for the why sex and its related organs are guarded with such fervor?

Well I get aroused when my wife touches my stuff.

I am a Christian,and a free thinker but some things react to being touched.

So I really would be distracted being touched all day,but would react very negative to another guy

Maybe for the same reason that some strangers think it's okay to touch a pregnant woman's belly. Other than that, I don't know. Many people don't seem to have very good boundaries.

Something that can 'assist" does not make it the primary function . Uterine contractions for example are going to happen either way . Not to mention trying to bring them on by nipple stimulation is not going to assist let alone "start them" on its own as a full proof function. Yes I understand that I was made aware of that about 25 years ago. Having sex(with [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]) can also kick start it but I still would not say sex is necessary let alone is it a primary/main function for sex is to start labor . It can assist ? Sure .But other conditions have to be present for that to even help start it .Labor has to already be eminent including certain hormonal changes occur naturally in the body that starts labor . As far as I know they don't even know exactly what triggers this hormonal shift .Its a mystery .

If it(nipple stimulation /sex) was that effective or any kind of main function in starting labor in and of itself we would have to abstain from nipple stimulation and sex/[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] the entire pregnancy to avoid preterm labor . And in healthy pregnancy's that is not the case .OB's give us the green light to have as much sex /[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] (including nipple play) as we want .

Same with taking brisks walks etc. Walking is not a main factor/ contributor to starting labor but we are told it can help start it when labor is eminent anyway . Otherwise again we would be restricted from excersize for the term of the pregnancy .

I've heard that manual stimulation....erm....."further down" can also reduce labour pains, or at least according to one provider's recommendation (suspect it was a midwife).

The response was largely along the lines of "try that on me during labour and you'll get punched out"

As far as I'm concerned what reduces labor pains that would make any difference at all (that would "count" ) is a spinal block or heavy duty drugs like with an affect as strong as heroine .

If anyone had suggested I MB during labor I'm sure my response would have made them start crying .

I have delivered with no pain management .(drugs or epidural) .

Try telling someone who's passing a kidney stone to go ahead and manually stimulate themselves down there to help reduce the pain . Just isn't going to cut it for the kind of pain that you really start thinking you would rather be dead .

My personal opinion is that these things work best on people who are about to go into labor imminently anyway.

Yep, I too have delivered without epidural or much pain management (I did get a local right before the episiotomy though, but that was near the end). Since I was getting some distraction from pain through biting things and telling my husband I was withholding sex for the rest of his natural life, I think I would gladly have bitten the head off of anyone who suggested that.
