  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Next time, ask precisely that: "What kind of Christian are you?" What you originally asked implied he might not have been a Christian at all. "Do you accept Jesus as your Savior?" is basically asking if they're Christian at all, not merely what kind they are.

The rules are the rules. I'm sure Christians are just as capable of typing "God isn't real" on a forum, and for any number of reasons.

Sorry. You simply do not understand.

I did nothing wrong in the questions I asked because not all Christians fit the criteria of my questions. Some Christians believe they do not have to accept Jesus to be saved. Some Christians believe Jesus is not God.

Also, Jeezaws says he is Christian in his profile, and yet they stated in a post that said, "God isn't real." This makes me doubt that they are being entirely truthful with me in regards to their profile.

OT adultery was limited to sex with another man's wife. I think the key concept is about breaking covenant, so desiring an unmarried woman, and marrying her is not wrong.
Strawman...
Never said it was wrong to marry someone you desire.

The rational reason that pornography is wrong is because of how it makes people view each other.
God intended for sex to be the crowning finish on a close, loving, exclusive, committed relationship.
Committed as in "covenant".

But pornography makes sex into something else.
It turns sex into a Lucifer-like "I want to gratify ME!" self-centered act.

Porn destroys marriages, because it turns a relationship-driven act of mutual love
into a self-driven evil "I will be master of what will satisfy my primal urges!" drive.

It turns women into objects, instead of people.
When women are seen as sex objects, they are stripped of all who they are, as persons created in God's image. And instead, they are seen as something to conquer and to own, to rule and demean.

Sex was designed as one of the most potent forces on earth, to push men toward creating and maintaining a stable society.
The sex urge, when governed according to the rules of godliness, elevate women to personhood, and give children safe, stable homes in which to grow up.

But when the sex urge is allowed to operate outside of God's guidelines, it tears down society, and casts children into a morass of shifting morality and broken homes.

It's a sin to watch porn and a sin to touch to porn. Watching porn is fulfilling the lusts of the flesh, masturbating to porn is fulfilling the lust of the flesh. In scripture we are commanded not to fulfill the lusts of the flesh. We are also commanded to avoid all forms of covetousness.

Porn is something you can repent of. It may take time, might not happen overnight that you just stop, but it can be repented of and you can learn to hate it. There are so many reasons to hate porn.

Honestly, you can justify it in all sorts of ways. You can justify many things in life. Your call.

In my experience... The biggest danger with Porn, for Christians that is, is that it is a weapon to be used against men who admit to its use.
I've seen churches split because the congregation had proof their pastor was a sinner because he looked at soft core nude photos. They threw him under the bus. Women take the Morally Superior position over their husbands when they find out their hubby's eyes wander, yet never ask why or look in the mirror, then turn their husbands in to the moral Thought Police where they are shamed, then spied on through "Accountability Software".
In other words Porn is the Scarlet Letter.

Men like to look at attractive breasts, tush, and a smile. From experience... Christian women are too selfish to offer those commodities to their husbands. If you doubt this I dare you to have an honest talk with your hubby over a couple of beers. He may loosen up enough to tell you the truth, which you can use to LOVE him. Porn is successful because Playboy knows what men want. Do you? Do you care? 30 years of marital experience shows most women don't.

Having said that... Porn is a major distraction that can keep you from doing good works, or cloud your mind. I have given it up for reasons of my own. I know that publishers of Porn hate Christians and despise the idea of a God who would hold anyone responsible... they hate me and my God, so I don't give them my money.

Please be respectful in your replies. The person you insult is either someone for whom Christ died, of someone in whom Christ lives.

This sounds like you believe in Eternal Security. Are you saying a Christian can indulge in porn and then die in that sin (with no repentance) and still be saved?

Universalists consider themselves Christian.
Arians (Those who deny that Jesus is God) also consider themselves as Christian.
My question was to ask what kind of Christian they were.
You can Google these words if it makes you feel better.

...
You didn't ask what type of Christian he was, you point blank asked him if he was a Christian. And it was meant as an atttack because it was so off topic. If the post was about different religions and denominations then the question would have been appropriate. Sometimes just saying sorry and moving on is the best way to handle a bad situation.

Ohhhh, gotcha. You are looking for the book of Absolute Christian Rules and Regulations. Well, considering that film and movies didn't exist until about 150 years ago you won't find the words Pornography but you can find "32But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul."

If that isn't good enough then we would have to reference images that were drawn or painted up to the time the first camera was made. But, what about for the Bedouin Sojourner traveling the desert byways? Since he didn't have much access to the fixed wall paintings of the time could he have been a victim to pornography? So ,Jesus said, " Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." There doesn't need to be any more legalistic review of this comment. Do you think Jesus took on the whole of the crucifixion and sins of the world onto his shoulders so we could continue sinning, or, so that once we repented of our sins we would find eternal salvation so if He is calling looking = lusting = adultery then you have your answer. But, to be more clear;

Borrowing from What does the Bible say about pornography? because I couldn't have said it better myself, the three main categories of sin are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16). Pornography definitely causes us to lust after flesh, and it is undeniably a lust of the eyes. Pornography definitely does not qualify as one of the things we are to think about, according to Philippians 4:8. Pornography is addictive (1 Corinthians 6:12; 2 Peter 2:19), and destructive (Proverbs 6:25-28; Ezekiel 20:30; Ephesians 4:19). Lusting after other people in our minds, which is the essence of pornography, is offensive to God (Matthew 5:28). When habitual devotion to pornography characterizes a person’s life and he continues in sin without seeking help, making no attempt to stop, or feeling no desire to change his behavior, it demonstrates the person may not be saved (1 Corinthians 6:9).

Nope. I did not say they were not a Christian. I asked if they accepted Jesus and if they believed Jesus is God. Not all Christians believe you have to accept Jesus to be saved. Not all Christians believe Jesus is God. You are erroneously attacking me instead of addressing the topic of the thread that you have trouble reconciling with God's Word. So please stick to the topic at hand. Thank you.

And may God's love shine upon you.

And as long as there's a stigma attached to it, when there are so many worse things people could be obsessing about, this will continue to be the case. Prudery is actually an accomplice of sorts in making porn more attractive than it otherwise would be.

Again, Yay Religion! Doing such a fine job, there.

What I never really understood is why there's so much stigma surrounding seeing people getting along really (really, really) well while the viewing of people engaging in violence, murder, torture, war, crucifixion, etc. is (at least relatively) A-okay.

I mean, just sitting through the movie previews before the feature starts is virtually nothing more than a long series of shooting and explosions (American films, yay them ). Shouldn't the latter be stigmatized rather than the former? For example, why aren't there more posts on religious forums expressing guilt over watching violent footage?
Sin is caused by the heart, not the eyes. I don't watch violent movies with hatred in my heart. And if I did feel hatred, I would feel guilt then. Porn is made for sinning. That's the whole point of it. Anyone could admit that. The only reason people watch it is to sin.

James seems to be for religion.

He says,
"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." (James 1:27).

Anyways, we are told in Scripture to deny ourselves and to pick up our cross and to follow Jesus.

If one were to do so, then the porn issue would be non-existent.

Sin is caused by the heart, not the eyes. I don't watch violent movies with hatred in my heart.
Violence is more closely tied to anger and hate than it is to love and affection.

I find it odd how many are defending violence as being okay.

Please let it go already. You are beating a dead horse here.
Lets leave that up to the moderators to decide if I violated the rules or not.
I do not believe I have because I did not specifically say that Sam was not Christian.
My questions were in line with finding out what type of Christian Sam was.
To suggest so otherwise is to ignore those who claim to be Christian (Who have different beliefs that would define Christianity differently).
