  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I find it confusing. People call fornication and homosexuality wicked behavior, but gays and people who fornicate aren't called wicked.

2 Timothy 3:1-9 would help to describe why this is taking place.

Desensitized to sin?

Yes, but they willingly do so (with them knowing that it is wrong deep down).
But sin has a way of hardening a person's heart whereby it deceives them into thinking it is okay.

But all of them are of the devil. All of them do involve some kind of witchcraft or dark arts.
Yes, there are certain words that are more specific.
But I do not see evil and wicked as being all that different.
Unless of course you want to explain it to me.

People say drug use is sorcery and star wars is mysticism but they don't use the term witchcraft.

So pornography and fornication are essentially the same sin?
So this is a hard issue really. Both are sin and all sins are equal. BUT from a human standpoint I think I'd rather be cheated on by having a spouse who looked at porn rather than a spouse literally cheating in person with someone. As in they had sex with someone. Thats much harder to deal with.

However.... counterpoint would be maybe cheating is a one time thing. But porn.... porn can be a never ending thing that takes over every second of your life. Cheating can happen once and the pain will last maybe a long time. But cheating by looking at porn, the pain never stops for that spouse stuck with a porn addicted spouse because it keeps happening.

Now as you asked are the same sin. Well the involve sexual stuff so in that matter yes. And in marriage both are cheating so they are the same there too. One just involves another person in the flesh, the other involves another person but online.

I'm not talking about cheating-im talking about fornication.

Ah oops. I assume you mean fornication when single? Well again both are sexual related sins so they are the same in that matter. Though if you wanted to be technical, your messing up worse when you have sex. Well the first time at least, because your giving up your virginity. Again, not a reason to look at porn though. In the end both are still a sin.

why isn't it wrong.

its nothing more than prostitution.

gives married men a reason to break their vows

and it destroys the innocence of youth as young as children of the age of eight such as myself when I was that age.

the stereotype of kids looking at porn ring a bell?

Why would anyone ask this question at all? Doesn't the question answer itself?

Seems to me those who ask like this already know.

Stay away and pray!!

What is the rational explanation about why pornography is wrong?

Pornography promotes sex.
Sex is not wrong.
But sex produces children.
Our planet has 3 million babies added to it every week.

Our planet's clean water supply is running out.
Our planet's resources are diminishing.

We can't take care of the babies we've got.
Or, at least, we don't take care of them...

And next week there will be 3 million more babies added to the 3 million from this week and the 3 million from last week...
We humans are multiplying exponentially.

Perhaps we shouldn't spend so much time promoting sex.
Perhaps we should use our God-given brains to figure out how we can slow our population growth so that we don't overwhelm our God-given environment.
Perhaps we should avoid pornography.

There are many other reasons to avoid pornography, too. Often pornography promotes violence.
Humans are already a violent species.
Our violent tendencies should not be promoted. Or excused. We're supposed to discourage violence, not embrace it.

Pornography is "wrong" because of the consequences it brings.
These consequences are grievous.
