Those circumstances, as I understand them, were that the US ramped up its productivity for wartime reasons in the 1940s, and saw a peacetime dividend from that in the 1950s.

Yes, after the war we were at a high level of industrial output and it was just a matter of retooling wartime factories to consumer goods. My point, however, is that we were basically the only ones of significance after the war. Germany, France and England were mostly in rubble by 1945. The only ones with a decent manufacturing base were the Soviets who stole Germany's factories and moved them back to Russia. Of course the Soviet system was an economic joke and they mostly made tractors and T-34s so they weren't any competition for us either.

There was also a lot of pent up demand and money (many people had been getting pay for 4 years, but really didn't have much to spend it on) and after rationing ended, in our case weeks after the war ended, there was plenty of stuff to buy again and that helped stimulate the overall economy.

"Dog whistle" is a frequently made baseless allegation.

It's not. Especially in American politics.

That's an extremely dubious and politically biased piece of work, that contradicts the actual solid evidence that we have linking demographics and voting patterns.

Really? You think an article in the Economist that reports on the actual study is "dubious and politically biased"?

Here's the original paper. Would you actually address the content rather than try to poison the well?

When did I call you a liberal? You haven't called me a racist bigot so why would you think I was talking specifically about you?

Are you suggesting that only liberals would call you a racist bigot?

Indeed you did not. But then again I didn't say you called me a liberal. I will admit I wasn't perfectly clear so I went back and edited my comment.

It's an easy allegation to make. I've never seen evidence to back it up.

Really? You think an article in the Economist that reports on the actual study is "dubious and politically biased"?

The Economist article simply reported the existence of the PNAS study. The PNAS study, in my professional opinion, is poorly designed, full of unjustified assumptions, and contradicted by other work.

Agreed, I am personally afraid that if we allow another democrat in the white house it will be 8 more years of "shut up and get in the back of the bus where you belong". For the record, I am not saying that anyone here on this forum is saying that. I am not trying to make accusations or flame/goad. I am merely stating how I felt during the 8 year of the Obama administration.

I have never heard one liberal Democrat ever express that kind of racist attitude toward minorities in the almost three decades I've been an NDN social justice and political activist. In fact, I have never had another liberal ever insult me personally or my People or my ancestors or my culture. But I can't say the same about the majority of conservative Christians I have had the misfortune of encountering over the course of my life, particularly after I became involved in NDN activism. Granted, I have met a few who weren't like that, but I've learned to consider them to be the exception and not the rule.

No, I never said America was never great. Where did you get the cockamamie idea that I ever said any such thing, especially since my comment was more about the aftermath of WWII ant their economic implications than the war itself.
Well, perhaps I may have gotten you confused with someone else, maybe Shiloh or SummerMadness. If so, then I digress on that line of questioning. We're still good right?

Your fears are noted. Are you suggesting that the Republicans currently in power aren't behaving similarly (albeit not to you?)
