All,

For those of you who say you follow American politics so closely because of how it effects you. How is it possible then you do not know when the election takes place?

Officially campaigns did not start until this year.

Two years wasn't much of an exaggeration actually was it.

Markus,

I can announce today that I am running in 2012. It doesn't mean legally I can start my campaign. There are laws that govern this.

J
The point is it seems like it has been going on forever. The first caucuses and primaries may have only been 8 months ago (which still seems like a long time to me) but there was plenty of campaigning going on in 2007 with speeches, advertisements, baby kissing, etc. etc.

Markus,

In American politics, that is an ongoing activity.

If those who are not Americans are going to comment on American politics, there needs to be a true understanding of what happens in American politics. It is one reason why I do not care what those views are.

I'm living in America now. I know more about the elections than most of my friends. Some of my American friends see me as their go to guy to ask about politics. It's still a ridiculously long and drawn out process that costs far too much money.

D,

I am sorry but I don't believe this issue is something to lighten up about.

J
Well, I am sorry and I don't know what's going on in your life but you come across as pretty serious and TBH, a bit cold. So that's why I said to lighten up :p

D,

To be blunt, and this concerns you why? My life is no concern of yours or anyone else on this board. What my personality is on a message board is of no concern to anyone beyond my own. If I do not break the rules and policy of this site, it should not matter that I carry myself in a serious or cold manner.

TBH? What does that mean?

Markus,

You have a point?

I disagree. One year to officially campaign and fund the run is not a long process nor does it waste any money, especially tax payer money.

J
No point, just trying to counter your point that I shouldn't comment on the elections because I'm not American and I'm ignorant of American politics.

Between June 6 and July 26, Obama's campaign spent $27 million on advertisements, against a combined McCain and Republican National Committee total of $24.6 million.[44]
Forgive me for thinking there could have been better things done with that money.

Markus,

June and July of what year? There is nothing else that money can be spent on. Legally it has to be spent on the campaign and campaign only.

Also the RNC, does fundraisers all year long constantly. The Presidential race is not the only one that is happening and not the only one the RNC funds.

Your counter has not covinced me.

Suffice it to say, we will have to agree to disagree.

J,

TBH = To be honest.

And TBH, this concerns me so that you could be aware of how other people percieve you since I am a bit more forthcoming about things like that than others;
And no, your life does not concern anybody on this board and that's why I gave you the benefit of the doubt by saying that I don't know what's going on.

And TBH, this concerns me so that you could be aware of how other people percieve you since I am a bit more forthcoming about things like that than others; not that it appears that it really matters to you. Do you enjoy being perceived as robotic and abrasive? Just wondering.

And no, your life does not concern anybody on this board and that's why I gave you the benefit of the doubt by saying that I don't know what's going on. But I can see that you don't care for warmth and candor and would prefer to retreat to the icy confines of your frigid attitude and that's fine by me. I just hope your stay is a short one.

D

And frankly the various implications that you cant know about American politics if you are not American is just plain dumb. I cant stress the point enough that the American elections get massive world wide media attention. i'm talking front page gear. this interest and media coverage is there because of how much the election will affect the whole world.

Yes it is. I would not want to have a leader that we are afraid to make fun of, I think that would be a sad day indeed for Democracy. This process should not be taken so seriously as many do, yes it's important, make a good decision, vote well, but don't let your life be consumed with it, it's as bad or worse than any other type of media sensationalism.

and you think that that person is McCain. I wouldn't be so willing to assume things.....:).

None of us knows who God would really wants in power.......and anyway Satan is the ruler of this world.

I didn't say McCain did I... which is why I said this. I won't vote for Obama, but God is Sovereign in this and will put in the man he wants in power.
