  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As a Christian I'd like to explain why I serve in the American Military - because a lot of people who come to this board think that those of us who are Christians are fighting for Christian ideals and Christian causes.

That may be the case for a few but for me it is absolutely not why I serve in the military of the United States. I do not believe that America is a Christian nation and I certainly do not believe that America fights to propigate Christianity to the rest of the world.

It's about one simple word: FREEDOM

America is about Freedom and its military exists to preserve Freedom for its citizens. The great thing about this nation is you can freely practice Christianity, Islam, Judism, Mormanism, UFOism, whatever, etc. without fear or reprisal from the government and in absolute safety.

It is in that environment that Christianity should be shared and it is in that environment that true Faith in Christ can blossom. I believe that is why this nation is blessed by God. Our citizens can freely choose or reject the gospel message without fear of physical harm or death from any man or woman. The Holy Spirit has true freedom to move in the hearts of men and women here and if anyone denies the gospel here it is completely on their own conscious. Until 1776 no man had that kind of Freedom.

Do I care if there are those who reject Christianity - who are citizens? Absolutely not - because as soon as their freedom gets taken away - that means my freedom is at stake. And don't get me wrong - there are some freedoms that we have here that translate into sin - but that is a choice that the good man must make not to do on his own - not with a gun to his head. It's what America is all about - and I'm proud to say that is why I serve and continue to serve!

"We're Always Ready for the Call
We place our trust in Thee
Through hallowing gale and shot and shell
To win our victory!
Semper Paratus is our guide
our pledge our motto too
We're "Always Ready" do or die!
Aye Coast Guard, we fight for you.

Aye, we've been "Always Ready"
To do, to fight, or die
Write glory to the shield we wear
In letters to the sky.
To sink the foe or save the maimed
Our mission and our pride
We'll carry on 'till Kingdom Come
Ideals for which we've died."

Then you serve for a noble cause, and I salute you for it.
I'm joining the Army myself, and the British Army would never hi-jack a peacekeeping mission, or a war, to spread Christianity. After all, wars are often fought for, as you say, freedom and liberation, and the imposing of a religion on a state that already follows another is wrong.

Well at least you know whats its about, though I disagree with your slant! Imposing Liberal Modern values on the world is just another example to me of how freedom is used to legitmise Liberal Modernities pursuit of power!

However, I thankyou non the less for making it strait!

Can you not see though how you are spreading a world view, and its not a Christian one!?

Peace Kas.

I agree with you on most parts, except this part. We are slowly losing our freedoms as Christians in the U.S. if we are not careful. Sure, we do have more freedoms than many countries under strict dictatorship or where their freedoms are severely restricted to practice Christianity.

I commend you on serving our nation. Thank you!!! And, God bless you...keep you safe.

You Serbians really have a place to talk. I mean you didn't try to massacre the entire Muslim population in Balkans or anything.
I have to agree....I think before anyone from Serbia shoots their mouth off about what a "Christian" act is..they need to look at their own country. How many Muslims did Serbia kill? Wasn't it close to genocide type numbers?

I will be joining the military in a little less then 18 months. I plan on finishing college first. My reasons are heritage, my choice, and I feel like God is calling me as well.

Actually, I am Christian not Serbian, and I support Christians in Serbia who are being persecuted by Moslems, their war was a legitimate war against Moslems aggression.

No one from Serbia is speaking on this board! I think that you need to look into the history of this conflict a little more before you 'shoot off at the mouth'!

Do you not feel that being a soldier for Christians in the Sudan or in the many countless places where Christians are being killed would be a better and nmore honourable calling!

Peace,
Kas.

No. Christians are a nation under God, which is different to a nation-state.
By International Law, you are Serbian first, then Christian.

I said, Christians are a nation, not that they are a nation state! Please do not put words into my mouth that I did not speak! According to Christian (the canon) law I am a Christian nothing else!

I am not Serbian, and care little for the doctrines of Liberal Modernity what you call 'international law'!

Peace,
Kas.

Mod hat on

I'm seeing signs of a quickly closing-down thread.

a few things to keep in mind
1. Read posts carefully to avoid misquoting people
2. Post things carefully to avoid being offensive (read and re-read what you type)
3. If someone says something insulting don't respond in like manner, report it.

Hat off
