Hello, first I want to say I never seriously opened up and read the bible except when I had to for Catholic school assignments. I think I lost my Christianity because of my recent turmoils. I have several points to this.
  • If there is God, than he would have to be all-knowing, he would know everything before it happened.
  • An all-knowing God makes praying for a petition or otherwise pointless because he already knows his will.
  • I'm very scared about what's now happening in the middle East today and I am starting to worry about the end of the world.
  • Many Christians have so radically different worldviews from mine, it bothers them and it's hard to have a conversation about it.
  • This point, I'm saying that Heaven doesn't sound like a place I want to go when I die, the popular Christian idea of Heaven. All you do is worship God day and night = no sin = no materialism = no fun = kingdom = dictatorship.
  • It hurts me to reject him, but I'm feeling more lost now.
  • I can add more points
I'm just lost and I don't know how I can or if I should return. My views on God are not going to change.

Its not dictatorship. You are free not to worship him but all you will WANT to do is worship him because of amazing the free and permanent gift of heaven is. I am also worried about the end of the world but worrying won't help anything.: "And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?" Matt 6:27. Heaven is freedom a place of physical and spiritual beauty beyond what the human mind can comprehend. If you were in paradise why would you need materialism? why would you need sin? You'd be free and safe forever and ever in paradise, what else would you need? And if you believe we are living in the end times it would be a bad time to lose faith, lets be real. God is all knowing, of the general direction humanity will go in, that doesn't necessarily mean, as far I believe, that every little thing is predetermined. Humans have free will.

Hi,

My original situation was worse Biblically than yours. I went through the motions only, hedging my bets so to speak. Now though, but I am 67 years old, none of your statements are not taken care of by God.

GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS ONLY, worked for me, eventually.

LOVE,

Hello,

If there is God, than he would have to be all-knowing, he would know everything before it happened.

Where do you draw the line about which actions God should allow and which God should prevent? It seems to me that if there was a world where the worst thing God allowed was for people to stub their toes, then people would still criticize God for allowing that.

An all-knowing God makes praying for a petition or otherwise pointless because he already knows his will.

One way I've conceptualized it is like a video game. There are certain events that must happen every time you play through it according to the plot, but then there all sorts of different actions between the plot points. In response to our petitions, God can actualize different actions while still being within His will.

I'm very scared about what's now happening in the middle East today and I am starting to worry about the end of the world.

There are lots of people dying there, so it would be hard to be concerned, but I'm not sure why that would cause you to lose your Christianity.

Many Christians have so radically different worldviews from mine, it bothers them and it's hard to have a conversation about it.

People will disagree with each other until the end of time, but that does not mean that there is no truth. We're all on a journey and should be willing to frequently examine the veracity of our beliefs.

This point, I'm saying that Heaven doesn't sound like a place I want to go when I die, the popular Christian idea of Heaven. All you do is worship God day and night = no sin = no materialism = no fun = kingdom = dictatorship.

The problem with dictatorships is that there are no checks and balances. Human leaders are prone to corruption and abuse of power, but God is all-loving and all-good, so He is a leader that we can safely get behind. If worshiping God doesn't sounds like a good time, then you underestimate His greatness and what He has done for you.

Hello, first I want to say I never seriously opened up and read the bible except when I had to for Catholic school assignments.
This is the first mistake. You can't be a Christian without reading the Bible. Without understanding the Word of God, falling away is inevitable. Jesus spoke about this in "The Parable of the Sower":

"That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea. And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach. And he told them many things in parables, saying: 'A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear.'"(Matthew 13:1-9 ESV)

“Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”(Matthew 13:18-23 ESV)

I read this quote a while back: "If you believe in the Tzaddik (Righteous One) without any understanding, you may lose your faith, because from faith alone one can fall. But if you also have some understanding , you cannot lose your faith."

This quote was from a Jewish leader, but it's still true for Christianity. Notice that Jesus said the same thing: "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart."

The parable of the bad soils seems to apply to you in every way.
  • You only read the Bible in Catholic school, so you didn't have a clear understanding of it. This is the seed sown along the path.
  • You seem to have had some relationship with God because you said, "It hurts me to reject Him" in your post. This means that whatever you did receive, you received it with joy. But you show that you did not have any root in yourself because you said you think part of the reason you lost faith is because of your recent turmoils. Those who have seed sown on rocky soil will fall away when they face troubles in life and persecution for the Word of God.
  • You said that Heaven will not be fun because it won't have sin and materialism: this shows that you had seed sown among thorns as well. The "cares of this world"(which is everything sinful) and "the deceitfulness of riches" has caused the word to become unfruitful in you, so you reject Christ because you want those things.

I think I lost my Christianity because of my recent turmoils.

Christianity does not promise a life free of turmoils. The Bible tells us many times that we will suffer, but we are not to lose faith because of that. Consider this parable:

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27 ESV)

The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds beat against both houses, but only the house that was built on the rock did not fall. The rock is the Word of God. Jesus says that if you follow His commandments, you will not fall or lose hope when tribulation comes; but those who do not follow His commandments will. Even if you were to live a life of complete and total obedience to the Word of God, it wouldn't mean that you were free from being beaten by rain, floods, and wind. It means that you would stand in spite of it.

"We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you.
Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:8-18 ESV)

"Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." (James 1:2-4 ESV)

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all." (Psalm 34:19 ESV)

  • If there is God, than he would have to be all-knowing, he would know everything before it happened.
  • An all-knowing God makes praying for a petition or otherwise pointless because he already knows his will.
"But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."(Matthew 6:6-8 ESV)

Notice that Jesus says, God knows what we need before we ask Him. He tells us that God is all-knowing, but shows us that this does not make prayer pointless. God wants us to pray because He wants to talk to us, and have a relationship with us. When we pray and ask God to help us or provide for us, and see that He answered us, it increases our faith in Him. It shows us that He is faithful, that He hears us, and that He cares about our lives. He could help us and provide for us without us asking, but then we might think things worked out for us because of our own strength, luck, or some ethereal force besides Him. All that would do is make us arrogant, and cause us to put faith in something false. God wants us to pray, so He can show us that He is in control of all things, and the good we wanted to happen to us would not have happened without Him. Then we would glorify Him in our thanks, and trust Him more.

When my brother was in surgery, and I thought he was going to die, I cried and prayed for him for hours; and I can't even begin to describe how thankful I was when I found out he was okay. When I didn't have enough food in my house to eat, and I didn't where my next meal would come from, I prayed; and I was thankful to God when my aunt showed up at my house unexpected to drop off groceries she had just gotten from a food drive at her church . I trusted the Lord, when I broke my ankle, but didn't have health insurance, so I prayed and said to Him that I believe He can heal me by faith just like His Word says, so I prayed and said it would be healed by morning. When I woke up, my ankle was not healed, and I was disappointed. I limped to the bathroom and got ready for school, and holding myself up on the counter, I prayed and said, "I still believe that You'll heal me, Lord, just in Your own time," and when I left the bathroom, I got halfway down the hall and realized that I was walking perfectly on both feet. I don't know when I got healed, but when I realized I was, I started praising God right there in the hallway. I wouldn't have the faith that I have now if I never prayed, and I definitely wouldn't have a relationship with God. I can glorify God by telling all the things He's done for me, but I wouldn't have these stories to praise Him by if I didn't pray.

I can also say that just because God is all-knowing, it doesn't mean that your prayer is pointless to change anything. I don't know if you've ever read a choose-your-own-adventure novel, but they work like this: the story is already written, but at the end of the scene, there will be an option saying "If you think Sally should do this, go to page 34. If you think Sally should do that, go to page 110." This is how God explained freewill and predestination to me. The part that is predestined is the part that's written, but freewill is the part where you decide where to go. Praying is kind of like telling God where you want to turn the page. When your prayers are not answered the way you want, it's most likely because you have to finish the scene you're in first. If you don't pray when it's time for you to choose the next scene, it will be chosen for you. When you do pray, the page will be turned to the one you ask.

  • I'm very scared about what's now happening in the middle East today and I am starting to worry about the end of the world.
We are definitely approaching the end of the world, but you don't need worry about that. Believe in Jesus and read the Word of God. All our instructions are in there:

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.(Matthew 10:28 ESV)

When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.(Matthew 10:23 ESV)

Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. (Matthew 24:20 ESV)

But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man. (Luke 21:36 ESV)

Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.(Revelation 2:10 ESV)

Truthfully, if you want to know why the Tribulation will happen, it will be because the Church has turned away from the commandments of God. The prophet Isaiah prophesied the end and the reason for it, but the text seems to go unnoticed (to fulfill the will of God, I guess):

"The earth lies defiled
under its inhabitants;
for they have transgressed the laws,
violated the statutes,
broken the everlasting covenant.
Therefore a curse devours the earth,
and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt;
therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched,

and few men are left." (Isaiah 24:5-6 ESV)

"Therefore my people go into exile for lack of knowledge; their honored men go hungry, and their multitude is parched with thirst."(Isaiah 5:13 ESV)

"
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the Law of your God, I also will forget your children." (Hosea 4:6 ESV)

The curse Isaiah is talking about is the curse of Deuteronomy 28. God established that there would be certain curses He would send on His people if we ever stopped following His commandments. Many of the curses include:

  • poverty
  • failure
  • sickness and disease
  • famine
  • incurable disease (like cancer)
  • goods being stolen
  • rape
  • husband/wife cheating on you
  • foreclosure
  • homelessness
  • debt
  • appointing an evil ruler over us
  • causing us to go into exile
  • raising up enemy nations
  • bloodshed by enemy nations
  • fear and panic
  • women eating their children
  • families betraying each other to death
  • families killing and eating one another
  • being taken as slaves
  • being forced to serve false gods
  • etc.
God said that when we recognized the signs and repented, and turned back to Him and kept His commandments, He would take all the curses away and bless us, again. Unfortunately, because people don't know the Bible, they don't recognize the signs, and if they do, they don't know that they are supposed to repent, and even if they do repent it isn't true repentance, it's mostly confession. Repentance means that you will renounce sin altogether and agree to do the things that God has commanded. Confession is simply acknowledging that you have sinned; it may or may not lead to change of behavior.

Notice that most of the curses I listed are happening to pretty much everyone in America, right now. People are suffering from incurable diseases, they are in debt, their marriages are falling apart, and our government is committing all manner of unholiness against God. Christians in other countries are already suffering more terrible curses, but American Christians think that they will be safe from the judgement of God. ISIS and Hamas are killing Christians, telling them to convert, raping them, and forcing them into slavery and exile.

God says in Hosea, that His people will be destroyed for their lack of knowledge, and at the end of the verse, He says that the lack of knowledge is them forgetting the Law. Right before that, He says it is because they have outright rejected knowledge(His Law).

You may have learned in church or Catholic school that the Law of God is done away with. That's not true. Christians believing this is what will cause the end of the world. Jesus said very plainly, "But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void."(Luke 16:17 ESV)

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:17-19 ESV)

And Paul tells us that we are not to nullify the Law(the Old Testament laws), just because we have faith in Jesus: "Do we then overthrow the Law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the Law." (Romans 3:31)

There is only one Law for all of God's people, and we have broken it, so the curses will be upon us. Since you know this, you should keep the commandments. If it worries you that much, you could start prayers:

"Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a Sabbath." (Matthew 24:20 ESV)

"But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man." (Luke 21:36 ESV)

  • Many Christians have so radically different worldviews from mine, it bothers them and it's hard to have a conversation about it.
You said that you have never seriously read the Word of God, so this is where this conflict stems from. I assume that your worldviews may be radically different from ours because yours are not founded on the Word of God. If we all believe in and agree with the Word of God(having read it, first), then we will all be of one mind. We cannot be of one mind if people have ideas contrary to Scripture.

Everything I believe is founded on the Word of God, for example, if someone asked me my viewpoints on controversial topics, I would answer them with the following Scriptures:

How do you feel about illegal immigrants in America?
"You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God"(Leviticus 19:34 ESV)

What are your views on gay marriage?

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,"(1 Corinthians 6:9 ESV)

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."(John 13:34 ESV)

How do you feel about giving more money to the poor?

"But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?" (1 John 3:17 ESV)

"If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be." (Deuteronomy 15:7-8 ESV)

"And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.
" (1 Thessalonians 5:14 ESV)

"For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat." (2 Thessalonians 3:10)
---------------------------------------------
Maybe your views are more on the side of the secular world, and that's why you have a hard time talking to other Christians about it.

  • This point, I'm saying that Heaven doesn't sound like a place I want to go when I die, the popular Christian idea of Heaven. All you do is worship God day and night = no sin = no materialism = no fun = kingdom = dictatorship.
The ideas you have about Heaven are not rooted in Scripture. We probably won't be worshiping God day and night in heaven. Also, I want to say, sin is not fun! Fornication and drunkenness is how people end up in unwanted pregnancies, venereal diseases, drunk driving accidents, murders, fist fights, date rape, and end up in a ditch somewhere miles away from home. What part of that sounds fun to you? Everything is not what you see on TV. Sin is not fun, it will ruin your life. There are plenty of Christians who have committed horrible sins in their past, and they are still struggling with the consequences of it. Go to the Recovery forum for "Addictions & Substances", ask them what their story is, and see how much "fun" they're having.

You said that you believe heaven will be like a dictatorship. I think you only feel this way because of the sin issue. Since you associated sin with having fun, and know that God doesn't want you to sin, you also think that God doesn't want you to have fun. That is not true. That is the first lie of Satan. He wants to make you think that God doesn't have your best interest at heart, just like he did with Adam and Eve in the Garden. He told them that God wasn't truthful with what He said, and that they could eat from the tree (sin), but God didn't want them to because He knew if they ate from the tree they would be wise like God. Satan's lie was that God told them not to do a "fun" thing because He didn't want them to have as much fun as He was. The end result is that they did eat from the tree, and then they knew they were wrong, and had to die.

The devil will convince you that your sins are fun and of no consequence. He will tell you that God is "bad" for saying you can't do something you want, but in reality, God is trying to protect you. He loves you, and gave up His Son for you, just so you could live with Him forever in Heaven. What greater proof do you need that He is for you and not against you? The only one trying to suck you into an unfun dictatorship is Satan. He doesn't care about you, at all. He is trying to turn you away from God, cause you to sin, and drag you down to Hell where he can torment you forever. He is lying to you and telling you that Heaven is a place where you don't really want to be, because he knows how glorious it is and doesn't want you to go there.

Biblically, this is what Heaven will be like:

"The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea." (Isaiah 11:6-9 ESV)

"and many peoples shall come, and say: 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.' For out of Zion shall go the Law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem." (Isaiah 2:3 ESV)

"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4 ESV)

"Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever." (Revelation 22:1-5 ESV)

"And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed— on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

And the one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls. The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width. And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia. Its length and width and height are equal. He also measured its wall, 144 cubits by human measurement, which is also an angel's measurement. The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, like clear glass. The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life." (Revelation 21:10-17 ESV)

Besides, how do you know that there won't be any sinning in Heaven? From what I've read in the Bible, there are a lot of implications that it will still be possible to sin; just look at the prophecy of Zechariah:

"And if any of the families of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, there will be no rain on them. And if the family of Egypt does not go up and present themselves, then on them there shall be no rain; there shall be the plague with which the LORD afflicts the nations that do not go up to keep the Feast of Booths. This shall be the punishment to Egypt and the punishment to all the nations that do not go up to keep the Feast of Booths."(Zechariah 14:17-19 ESV)

We will be expected to go the Temple and celebrate the Holy Days with Jesus every year, and there will be punishments if we don't. In Revelation 21:17, John says that nothing unclean will enter into the holy city nor those who do what is detestable or false. That sounds like it will be possible to sin, in my opinion, but like I said, sin isn't fun. The only difference between sinning now and sinning when Jesus gets back is that we are not immediately punished according to the Laws of the Old Testament, when He comes back, we will be.

Heaven will not be some puffy place up in the sky where we all turn into naked babies with wings. It will be here on earth, and a lot similar to the ways things are, now. There won't be any death or pain or bad memories, and for the most part, people will not sin. I'm not saying it will be impossible for people to sin because I don't know that, but I doubt anyone would sin after experiencing the true joy and revelation of Christ. If that wouldn't motivate them, at least the fear of judgment would.

Based on Matthew 13:52, it's safe to assume we will still have jobs, but we will be doing what we were made to do. That's good news for people who feel like they don't know what their purpose is in this life. Jesus talked about scribes being trained for the kingdom of heaven, so I naturally assume that every who does anything for a living is being trained by God for His Kingdom.

It's also likely that we will still have technology, like computers, smartphones, television, radio, etc. Only, in the kingdom, we will also have farms and livestock, as well. The sacrificial system will be reinstated according to the final chapters of Ezekiel, so we will need to have animals to bring our sacrifices to the Temple. The mix of modern and ancient culture isn't so hard to understand if you consider that most of the near eastern world already lives that way.

Just look at Israel. Most people don't think of Israel as a place with cars, public transport, cable television, etc., but think of it as a desert place full of sand and people walking around in robes living the like it was in the times of Abraham. Not so. This is a picture of David's Tower at night, with view of cars passing in the streets.

This is a picture of the King David Hotel. It has a mix of modern and ancient architecture.

And this is a video of what the 3rd Temple will look like when it's done.

We will go to the Temple on the Holy Days each year, and talk with Jesus. We will still have smartphones, hotels, and everything we have now, the only difference is, there won't be any evil or corruption in the world. We can spend Sabbaths with Jesus, take selfies with Him, put it on Instagram, sing Chris Tomlin songs and other praise music, then spend time at the hotel with our brothers and sisters in Christ, before going home to wherever we live. We can have conversations with Peter, Paul, David, Moses, Abraham, and whoever else you can think of; and we will be co-heirs with Christ. I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to these things.
I can't wait to spend Passover with Moses, and hear the first hand account of it from someone who was actually there. I can't wait to hear King David play the harp and sing my favorite psalms. I can't wait to talk to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and have dinner with them. I would love to stand in the presence of King Jesus, and sings songs declaring His holiness, and majesty, and awesomeness. And it would be like that forever. There would always be new people to meet, new things to explore. We could probably walk around the first 1000 years in eternity just marveling at everything because of how amazing it is. It will be how things are now, but so much better than we could ever imagine, and we will all want to praise God for it.

I'm just lost and I don't know how I can or if I should return.
You can and you should. Repentance is good for the soul, and the Lord delights in it. No one is ever too far from God to repent.

"then man prays to God, and he accepts him; he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he restores to man his righteousness."(Job 33:26 ESV)

"Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." (Luke 15:7 ESV)

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9 ESV)

My views on God are not going to change.
Your views on God will change when you understand the Word of God.

Focus on prayer for right now. Tell God how you feel and what you don't understand. Ask Him to help you understand and increase your faith. Pray that He will bring you closer to Him, and try to start reading the Bible everyday.

Hi

Many people go through what you are going through, and it's ok, take your time and learn as much as you can about God, Christianity and its teachings. You say it hurts you to reject him, this is God calling to you, it hurts us all to reject him but remember that he will always be there with you, even when you are feeling lost and have doubts.

Put aside your fears about the end of the world and such, you have plenty of time so do not feel rushed. Take your time and learn more, try to get a better understanding of Christianity and why so many believe it is true. Pray for God to guide you through this difficult time.

I was raised in a Christian household and parted ways with God in my late teens. In my twenties I started having doubts whether I had chosen right or not, but I thought I knew what Christianity was. I couldn't have been more wrong, despite 15 years of Sunday school and going to church, I had misunderstood its message entirely! It was only once I went back to church and started reading that I realised my understanding was completely wrong. So my advice is read all you can, expand your knowledge and it will allow you to make a decision. This website is good for some books on the basics http://www.keybibleconcepts.org/

I think many people leave Christianity for the wrong reasons. First..... why are you a Christian to begin with? Most of the time people consider themselves "Christians" because they were raised that way. At some point they rebel against their parents and all they stand for. Many of them leave the faith during adolescence. Almost everything is stacked against the faith. Media portrays a vision of it as domineering and oppressive. Many Christians are not very good people although I would say that they are better than they would otherwise be. In some cases Christianity is a "pop culture" thing among and if you're not part of the club you're treated as an outsider. If this fits you to some degree then I understand. You should not be something or someone because it's how you were raised. You should however seek it out yourself.

Now.... Why should I be a Christian? I can only tell you my own experience. I was a skeptic for many years. I led just about everyone I know away from the faith from the ages of 14-28. That's a lot of people. I bought the media mantra that Christianity was x, y, and z. I hated it and it's people etc. And one day.... I met a very kind old man who asked if he could lay hands on me and pray. I did not want to be rude. I told him it would do nothing. But when he placed his hands on my face and prayed for the holy spirit to reveal itself to me.... something changed. I do not know what exactly. But from that moment forward I sought god. And he revealed himself to me at every opportunity. My prayers are often answered and I am grateful. God has led me.... and continues to lead me everywhere. When you truly realize the scope of god.... and his spirit.... and what that really means for the universe etc. It's powerful. It's not something you just turn your back on. I still sin. Everyone sins. But I am grateful for gods mercy and his love because he is better than I am. When we would hate he loves. When we would kill he spares. I am constantly amazed that he has not squashed us from the beginning with all the murder, rape, hatred, bigotry, greed etc etc etc in the world.

As far as the rest of your issues.... I suggest you read the book of "Job" if you are at all interested in learning. You'll find yourself agreeing with Job quite a bit. I did. And perhaps you'll learn something about the nature of god. But if you are truly interested in seeing what "Christianity" is..... Not just what people say about it but an actual experience. Then ask god for the spirit. Ask him to reveal himself to you. Say all the things you like. Bring your complaints to him as did Job. We are promised that he who seeks shall find. If you truly seek god.... you will find him. He will make himself available to you.

As far as heaven..... what Jesus told us about the kingdom of heaven is that he who is last on Earth (the poorest and most vile) will be first in heaven. That god is like a debtor. Two men owe him a loan. One 1k.... and the other 1 million. The debtor forgives both. Who loves him more? God tells us over and over again in the bible... I am slow to anger and quick to forgive. Just ask. Ask him. Go to him in a truthful and meaningful way. Put yourself aside and ask. He will answer. Because he is god.... and he said that he knows of no other like himself. He is the beginning and the end. You live in his world not the other way around.

Hello, first I want to say I never seriously opened up and read the bible except when I had to for Catholic school assignments. I think I lost my Christianity because of my recent turmoils. I have several points to this.

It's okay.

Everybody has struggles & it's normal to doubt. A complete loss of faith may be harder to address, as each person has different experiences. Basically, you're not alone.

If there is God, than he would have to be all-knowing, he would know everything before it happened.

This is an assumption that I don't quite share, but I don't wish to challenge you, as I don't think an in depth debate is what would be beneficial here.

An all-knowing God makes praying for a petition or otherwise pointless because he already knows his will.

Different Christian traditions approach prayer differently, but most Christians would agree that the primary purpose of prayer is to draw us close to God. I don't accept the fatalistic idea that God has already "decided" everything for us. A real relationship requires some vulnerability.

I'm very scared about what's now happening in the middle East today and I am starting to worry about the end of the world.

It's scary that there is so much distress around the world, but I would not get hooked into apocalyptic predictions or fears.

Many Christians have so radically different worldviews from mine, it bothers them and it's hard to have a conversation about it.

Could you provide an example?

This point, I'm saying that Heaven doesn't sound like a place I want to go when I die, the popular Christian idea of Heaven. All you do is worship God day and night = no sin = no materialism = no fun = kingdom = dictatorship.

Christianity is not so much about some place you go when you die as it is about restoration & redemption of all things. The Christian hope is that one day God will set all things right - on earth, the cosmos, all of creation - here, now, & through eternity. No more tears, pain, or death. All things will be made whole, made new. The message of Jesus is that we are invited to participate in this redemption right now, by placing our trust in Him & in choosing to work for good in this world, as we look forward to the restoration of our own selves in resurrection.

It hurts me to reject him, but I'm feeling more lost now. I can add more points
I'm just lost and I don't know how I can or if I should return. My views on God are not going to change.

Again, it's okay. You're not alone. Let me know if I can offer further insight.

I'm just lost and I don't know how I can or if I should return. My views on God are not going to change.

First thing before to judge God you should know Him, and for to do it the only way is to read the Bible. I was also rised in catholic family and I know which is not common to talk about God nor to read the Bible at home in this context.
If you read the Bible you will be acknowledged about what happens in this world and about who you are.
It's true which God doesn't accomplish all our desires and requests, not because He doesn't exist or because He is a tyrant, but firstly because we must recognize our position in this actual life.
We have been cursed because we sinned against God in the garden of Eden; we fell from our first condition of perfect creatures, the purpose of God was that to make us similar to Him and to learn little by little our position by His side by obeying to Him.
If you grow up a children you must teach him and while he grows he must obey to you for to keep living well and for to learn how to live, so the same is with God and us.
Now, after the Eden, God visited the earth multiple times for to guide us and for to give us His teachings and He wants us to understand and to be saved.
During the eternal life we will live in a new physical earth; we don't know much about how the eternal life will be but we know only few things:
- we will have eternal life
- there will not be war nor death nor evilness
- God will dry away our tears
- there will not be the sun nor stars cause the light will come from God and Jesus and there will no be the night anymore
- God and Jesus will live in the middle of saved people and we will see Him face to face
- our glorified body will be more beautiful and we will be well dressed better than the most beautiful flowers and more than the kings of this earth
- there will be no sex in the eternal life and no one will get married and have sons.

Going back to your first point.
"God knows everything we need" and you are right in this statement, but He wants us to recognize Him and to talk to Him, He knows your heart, but you have the free will to show Him who you are and what you want to do, cause it's written which our words make what we are, so if you speak destruction that's what you get, but if you speak love then that's what you are and what you give. God gives you the freedom to chose what you want to be, but He teaches you inside the Bible, what is the best and what is the worst to do in this life.
So if you don't know Him, first search for Him in the Bible starting from New Testament first, cause it is The explanation and the accomplishing of the prophecies of the Old Testament (but there are still prophecy in the OT which must be accomplished); then read also the Old Testament because it is the History of humanity and it describes the whole way of the plan of salvation from its beginning and it talks about the Messiah that had to come in this world and which have to come again at the end of times for to take us with Him.
After you recognize who He is, close in your room like Jesus said and pray to God the father, repenting from your sins and asking for your salvation first, then ask about everything you need, cause He waits for you to speak to Him.
If He doesn't give us what we need it's because that's not the way things have to go..
If we lose a dear person and we pray to have back that person we cannot be listened cause we must first understand which we are in a momentary cursed world.
God knows if He can accomplish our prayers and if he doesn't there is a reason.
Most of times our conditions are dictated by men of power and their unjust ways, cause God gave absolute freedom to all men, but God doesn't stay sit for ever looking at the violence in this world, He has plans which He spoke to us, and those plans are in The Bible. But we must pray always, especially if we feel afflicted, and if we need something or also to pray for other people and to pray for our enemies as well.
No one can knows the way that God gives to us or if He will give us what we need, but the first step is asking Him.
I don't expect you to change your view. The change is inside everyone of us it doesn't come from anywhere else.

A lot comes from trust and faith. I didn't think I would ever go back to Christianity, ever. But here I am. Everyday I feel closer and closer to God and it is a great feeling. One thing that really helped me was diving in. Really putting your faith in God and seeing what happens. I can promise you it will be amazing, but you have to try. For me it was a tough step. The first time I prayed again there was a certain type of humility along with it. But I think that comes with the territory. I have prayed everyday since. The best part being is that I actually look forward to it. I think a lot of your concerns will be answered if you take time and start studying the Bible and delving into the different things that are in there. Take what Jesus is saying and contemplate on what the meaning of it is. Come on here and ask questions about things you may not understand or disagree with. I have received some great feedback from all walks of Christians and even Atheist's. It is amazing what you find out when you open dialogue of with other people. Hope you have your questions answered. There is a lot of good info from the people who have commented before me.

God Bless!

Sorry I don't know how to work the quote option, but to answer the original starter post I'd say-
1- When God ordered Abraham to sacrifice his son, he stopped him at the last second as he raised the knife and said through an angel- “Don’t kill your son or hurt him in any way. Now I can see that you do respect and obey God. I see that you are ready to kill your son, your only son, for me.” (Genesis 22:12)
This indicates that God suspended his all-knowingness on this testing ground called Earth and gave us free will to see how we do.
2- Why worry about the end of the world? The world is badly messed up by man's stupidity,so the sooner God puts it out of its misery the better..:)
3- Of course Christians have different views about Christianity, but at least they've got Jesus in their beliefs. Likewise, many singers record cover versions of a famous song in their own style, but the underlying melody stays the same..:)
4- You say heaven doesn't sound fun. A keen golfer once asked Billy Graham "Will there be golf courses in heaven?" to which BG replied "Yes, if you want there to be".
We're not all golfers but I should imagine the same applies, namely heaven will be whatever we want it to be.

One last thing- keep it simple and just concentrate on liking Jesus, and don't think you have to commit yourself to heavyweight bible study or anything.
Paul said the same thing- "I'm worried lest you be led astray from the simplicity of Christ" (2 Cor 11:3)
Jesus wants pals first and foremost..:)
"You're my friends if you follow me. I don't call you servants, but I call you friends"- (John 15:15)

All you do is worship God day and night = no sin = no materialism = no fun = kingdom = dictatorship.

I understand your thoughts. I've been here myself. I don't find worshiping God day and night to be a struggle. For me, worshiping God is like thanking a really good friend for helping you. It's like biting into chocolate ice cream because it's so wonderful and ultimately, it comes from God, not the grocery store. Worship doesn't have to rule your life. God wants you to live a full and fruitful life free of sin. I gave up materialistic things because I wanted to, not because it was the rule. I find that I have more fun in my life now than I ever did. I'm not afraid to die anymore, and the only thing I would ever be truly afraid of is being left behind on this earth when God removes his presence from it. It will be a literal Hell.

I think the chances are very good that your views on God can change. Satan's influences are so strong and so incredibly targeted to people who have any doubts that he can sway people with the wink of an eye. Satan is a true loser, and will be a true loser. Pray to God about it. I've prayed desperate tearful prayers and found deliverance from them. It's not too late. Being a true Christian will be one of the hardest things you'll ever do, but the strength that it requires and the love that comes from it is amazing. God's miracles are around us every single day, you just have to look deeper for them.

Your posting of this topic is one of God's miracles to me. I will now be praying for you to find the strength within you to see the religion in the world, not for what it is now, but for what it can be.

You raise a valid point in that materialism can be unsatisfactory. There is a reason why men of education and ability choose to enter monasteries or even seminaries (married pastors in traditional mainline churches are not horribly well paid).

..I don't find worshiping God day and night to be a struggle. For me, worshiping God is like thanking a really good friend for helping you..

The word "worship" is open to several interpretations; one that I like is that we need to be "tuned in" to God every waking moment. The best way I can describe it is to suggest that it's like being tuned into a radio station that's permanently quietly playing all our favourite tunes and songs in the background as we go about our daily lives.
In other words we don't commune with God simply by prayer alone, but by sensing his presence every waking hour.
For example I remember a news report of a vicar who was hospitalised some years ago after being clipped by a lorry's wing mirror as he waited to cross the road, and after he made a full recovery a reporter asked him "Did you pray while you were in hospital?" to which he replied "No not for myself, however I did commune with God", which indicates what I said earlier about how "communing" means being constantly mentally-tuned into "the God wavelength" even when not actually praying.
I think it shows in the eyes of people who are tuned in; Christians have a cool, calm fearless look about them..:)
"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2 Cor 4:18)
Some examples-

"My Christian faith has been such a backbone through so many difficult times. For me Christianity is about being strengthened"- Bear Grylls
b-grrylls.gif

"God makes His reality so obvious to us in His creation and in the little mini-miracles that happen everyday"- Becky St. James

"To look out at this kind of creation out here and not believe in God is to me impossible, it just strengthens my faith"- John Glenn
