No, Jesus is not sacrificed again and again at every Mass!!! What happens is we are taken back to His original sacrifice on the Cross 2000 years ago, and it is made present before us. It is the same sacrifice!! :) During Mass, we worship at Calvary with all the angels and saints in heaven..on a spiritual level, it's a timeless event. That is what the Catechism is saying, and all the knowledgeable Catholics I've talked to about this say the same thing. Please learn Catholicism from Catholic sources :)
I am Catholic.

Stop doing it and stop telling me what to do.

Need I say more???

Here you go...

NoDoubt, you already posted this link in the beginning of this thread, and I replied to it...

I am Catholic.

Stop doing it and stop telling me what to do.

If you are Catholic, sis, why are you speaking against the Church and the Eucharist? I am not telling you what to do, I just said that in the article you posted, there is wrong information about Catholicism....and I wanted to point that out so that people would know that this is not really what the Church teaches...that Jesus is not re-sacrificed every Mass.

Peace

NoDoubt, please read this:
http://www.newman99.com/16.html

:) it explains quite well what the Catholic church teaches about the Eucharist. Especially, read the last part, about the "sacrifice of the Mass"..which deals directly with what that article you posted is trying to say.

God bless

I also want to share something about Eucharistic Adoration... I went to something called praise and worship Adoration yesterday, it was at a Catholic Charismatic event. And what happened, is the priest brought out the monstrance with the Eucharist host, and put it on the altar...and everyone got down on their knees, and the band played some worship music, and we all sang to Jesus. It was amazing!! :D then, the priest carried the monstrance all around the room in a procession. You guys should have seen the people..you could tell that during this time, they felt really close to God and experienced His presence in the Eucharist. People reached out their hands toward Him, some cried, etc. At one point, the priest was right beside me, and stopped, and turned the monstrance towards us (my row). I looked up for like a second, and then started crying too (lol) because Jesus was right beside me!!! wow!! it was such an amazing time, I'll never forget it. I know that Jesus is really there in the Eucharist...it is Him, the risen Christ.

Then we had Mass (it was amazing, I felt soo much peace there), and in the homily, the priest talked about God's love..and how Jesus died for us out of love, and we can know Him and have a relationship with Him that is better than anything. It was actually an awesome homily. And then he said how Jesus loves us so much that He gives us Himself every time we take Communion..that is such a great gift..and just think what an act of love and humility it is, that our Lord - the King of Kings - would allow us to eat, receive into ourselves, His Body and Blood that was shed for us on the Cross.

I just wanted to share that :)

check out this link: http://www.medjugorje.org/adore.htm
"The best time you spend on earth is with Jesus, your Best Friend, in the Blessed Sacrament!
Just as you can’t be exposed to the sun without receiving its rays, neither can you come to Jesus exposed in the Blessed Sacrament without receiving the Divine Rays of His Grace, His Love, His Peace."
(btw some people criticize Adoration by saying that the Eucharist is meant to be 'eaten, not looked at', but keep in mind that in the Catholic church, Mass is celebrated every day, and it's not like Adoration has replaced Communion or something. And if Christ is really present there, Adoration makes sense)

God bless

Oh no... what blasphemy! How could you worship a piece of bread? And how could you think that the priest has power to transubstantiate Christ in the wafer? I have only read this 7th page of posts, but will look over what others may have said in a moment. But I am sick and tired of this Catholic foolishness. And I suppose I will get yet another chastising for this post, just because I must rebuke false teachings... how sad and pathetic when Christians don't have the bravery to call sin by its rightful name...

Now you are blaming Catholics for believing what is written in the Word of God, and you Calvinist believe in the following, which isn’t of God at all?
  • I: Irresistible Grace refers to the fact that when God has bestowed his grace upon a person because they have been predestined for heaven, it is impossible for a person to "resist" this grace and not end up in heaven. No matter what they do and no matter what they think, they are saved. In Calvinism, this is the corollary of the principle of Total Depravity, which teaches that it doesn't matter what a person does or thinks, it is impossible for them to avoid hell unless that happens to be what God wills. Calvinists take comfort in the idea that God's love will overcome their sins, but only because they assume that they are among the elect.

Your ignorance is not uncommon, and better yet, it is curable!!

What does the bible say?

1 Cor 11
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself.

What does discern the body mean?

Why did he believe that?

John 6

49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh." 52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" 53 So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever."

What did early Christians believe?

circa 150 A.D.: St. Justin Martyr,
First Apology, 66

St. Justin is talking about the Mass, and he has described the consecration and communion. Then he says
We call this food Eucharist; and no one else is permitted to partake of it, except one who believes our teaching to be true and who has been washed in the washing which is for the remission of sins annd for regeneration, and is thereby living as Christ has enjoined. For not as common bread nor as common drink do we receive these; but since Jesus Christ our Savior was made incarnate by the word of God and had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so too, as we have been taught, the food which has been made into the Eucharist by the Eucharistic prayer set down by Him, and by the change of which our flesh and blood is nourished, is both the flesh and blood of that incarnated Jesus.
St. Augustine, Explanations on the Psalms, [33, 1, 10] A.D. 392-418:
`And he was carried in his own hands [3 Kgs 20:13 LXX? corrupted].' But, brethren, how is it possible for a man to do this? Who can understand it? Who is it that is carried in his own hands? A man can be carried in the hands of another; but no one can be carried in his own hands. How this should be understood literally of David, we cannot discover; but we can discover how it was meant of Christ. For Christ was carried in His own hands, when, referring to His own Body, He said: `This is My Body.' For He carried that Body in His hands.

St. Augustine, Explanations on the Psalms, [98, 9] A.D. 392-418:
And adore the footstool of His feet, because it is holy [Psalm 98:9, LXX 99:9]. . .In another place in the Scripture it says: `The heavens are my throne, but the earth is the footstool of My feet' [Isa 66:1] Is it the earth, then, that He commands us to adore, since in this other place the earth is called the footstool of God's feet? . . . I am put in jeopardy by such a dilemma (Anceps factus sum): I am afraid to adore the earth lest He that made heaven and earth condemn me; again, I am afraid not to adore the footstool of My Lord's feet, but because the Psalm does say to me: `Adore the footstool of My feet.' I ask what the footstool of His feet is; and Scripture tells me: `The earth is the footstool of my feet.' Perplexed, I turn to Christ, because it is He whom I seek here; and I discover how the earth is adored without impiety, how without impiety the footstool of His feet is adored. For He received earth from earth; because flesh is from earth, and He took flesh from the flesh of Mary. He walked here in the same flesh, and gave us the same flesh to be eaten unto salvation. But no one eats that flesh unless he adores it ; and thus it is discovered how such a footstool of the Lord's feet is adored; and not only do we not sin by adoring, we do sin by not adoring.

I have a question for you. Why should someone who is not Catholic, believe you just because you quote some men that your church say are saints? Do you not want people to accept some other man’s teachings? What is the difference of you believing in your saints, than a Calvinist believing what Calvin wrote?

That's a fair question.

I challenge you to find a single legitimate Christian, ie. not a gnostic or some other group that we all agree was in error, during the first 1000 years of Christianity, who did not believe in the actual bodily presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

I am not willing to go back and research your challenge. My memory tells me that transubstantiation was not said to be dogma for a long time.
The Holy Spirit told me that the Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Jesus. When I asked Jesus about transubstantiation he told me no, that it is spiritual. Now I don’t personally see where it is harmful to believe in transubstantiation. People just need to know that the Eucharist is truly Jesus’ body and blood.

All those whom God has predestined to life, and those only, He is pleased, in His appointed and accepted time, effectually to call, by His Word and Spirit, out of that state of sin and death, in which they are by nature, to grace and salvation, by Jesus Christ; enlightening their minds spiritually and savingly to understand the things of God, taking away their heart of stone, and giving to them a heart of flesh; renewing their wills, and by His almighty power determining them to that which is good, and effectually drawing them to Jesus Christ; yet so, as they come most freely, being made willing by His grace. This effectual call is of God's free and special grace alone, not from anything at all foreseen in man, who is altogether passive therein, until, being made alive and renewed by the Holy Spirit, he is thereby enabled to answer this call, and to embrace the grace offered and conveyed in it.

Well your memory is wrong, sorry. I didn't know you were so old!! hehe

Transubstantiation is just a word coined to describe the event.

The doctrine existed from the beginning.

Do you agree with Martin Luther?

Who, but the devil, has granted such license of wresting the words of the holy Scripture? Who ever read in the Scriptures, that my body is the same as the sign of my body? or, that is is the same as it signifies? What language in the world ever spoke so? It is only then the devil, that imposes upon us by these fanatical men. Not one of the Fathers of the Church, though so numerous, ever spoke as the Sacramentarians: not one of them ever said, It is only bread and wine; or, the body and blood of Christ is not there present.
Surely, it is not credible, nor possible, since they often speak, and repeat their sentiments, that they should never (if they thought so) not so much as once, say, or let slip these words: It is bread only; or the body of Christ is not there, especially it being of great importance, that men should not be deceived. Certainly, in so many Fathers, and in so many writings, the negative might at least be found in one of them, had they thought the body and blood of Christ were not really present: but they are all of them unanimous.”

Calvinists believe in a God that is not described in the bible, clearly.

You must reject these verses to be a Calvinist:

1 Peter 1
17Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.

EACH MAN!!

John 3
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

THE WORLD!!

1 Timothy 2
3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

ALL MEN!!

- Romans 2:6-7 "For He will render to every man according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, He will give eternal life."

EVERY MAN!!

- Matthew 6:14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you don not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

IF!!!

- James 2:24 "You see that a man is justified by WORKS, and not by faith alone."

Whose works??

- John 3:36 The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who refuses to believe in the Son will not see life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.

Who refuses? God or Man?
